I don't think this 1st Amendment issue is going to be solved in this thread. I do think it's interesting to speculate about this timeslot and the linear TV business going forward.

Odds are Kimmel will be removed from his contract with Sinclair broadcasting asking for an apology as well as a sizeable personal donation to Kirk’s family and Organization before they would even consider putting Kimmel’s show back on the air.

First, to be clear, Kimmel has been cancelled. He is not coming back. In doing a quick search on the internet, after Kimmel was originally suspended he was considering quitting over what he perceived as censorship-- There was never going to be an apology. The ratings are so bad that his show is going to be replaced (according to rumors) with the game show "Family Feud". The uproar is greater than when the original Star Trek was cancelled--and it still had good ratings.

“The ratings are so bad”- compared to what? Last ratings released had Colbert at 2.42 viewers, Kimmel at 1.77 million, and Fallon at 1.19. (Myers has 900,000 and Daily Show has 994,000, though those aren’t necessarily direct competitors given time and broadcast.) And this is Colbert’s last year. So if this is just a ratings battle, I am absolutely shocking that Fallon hasn’t been cancelled.

I have not seen a rumor that Family Feud will be replacing Kimmel long-term. They are currently filling Kimmel’s shots with re-runs.
