Basking in the Glow of the (not so) Creepy Clown -2/11-Pictures, Final Thoughts, PTR!

That's actually a lot more snow than I thought you got. We only got about 5 inches here and it's mostly gone already.

I finally caught up. I love the picture of Henry with the little buses in his hand. I can almost hear the plea for them. haha

All of our snow melted yesterday. It was 50 degrees here with thunderstorms.:eek:

Brooke, you really take beautiful pictures. I was sort of hoping that once we had gotten past Christmas without snow, we would have a snowless winter, which is not entirely unheard of here in this section of the northeast, but I guess not... Oh well. I'm sorry that the snow has been such a pain down in NYC. Up here in CT it hasn't been that bad and a lot of has melted after the last few days. I give you a lot of credit for braving the elements with you and Henry!

I am with MeMom, that is a lot of snow! Glad Henry had a fun time playing in it! My family also tried to throw snowballs at me! I claimed amnesty because I was holding the camera!

I've been following along and finally have a moment to leave a message. I love, love, love the pictures!! We did a split stay with the Boardwalk and the clown still spooks me. You got a fabulous room location! I haven't been that lucky there yet.

We were out there for maybe 10 minutes and he was done! :rotfl: We had a great time though!

It's so strange, it's only about 2 feet of snow, which for Joe and I, coming from Minnesota, is nothing. However, Minnesota dedicates a very large sum of money to snow removal, so snow plows are out the second the snow slows down and there might be one day of hairy driving, but life continues. Here---not so much. A tiny path down the sidewalks get shoveled by the shop owners, the snow plow went by once before 8 am. Joe went into the City for work the next day (he later found out he could have worked from home!), and everyone was walking down the middle of the road because it was slightly less deep than the sidewalks. The trains were all messed up and it took him a lot longer to get to work, it was 30 minutes before one even came to our stop!

I love it! It almost is too much to have fun in. This kids just sink in without snowshoes. hehehe

We had a 2 foot dump in the beginning of Dec. I agree being a Minnesnowtan that our plow drivers are amazing at keeping our roads clear. However this year we had the snowiest Dec. on record and everyone had a tough time keeping up with it.

How long have you been away? My DH would love to live where you are!

You would think that a big city like NYC would invest a tad bit more money in snow removal.....:sad2:. I'm glad it turned into a Henry winter wonderland!

Oh, and I haven't been on the boards in a couple of days, so I wanted to say a belated

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

I'm impressed that you guys braved the city on NYE. That looked a bit hairy. I'm not surprised that you went out though, you guys are definitely the adventurous types!:goodvibes I'm glad that Henry had his own little countdown.:thumbsup2

Hi Brook! I have a free day (yeah!) so in between loads of laundry and making piles for Goodwill I am on the Dis today. :thumbsup2

I LOVE your updates! The nice, relaxing pool day sounds divine; we had a few of those days this last trip and what a difference it makes.

I thought about you guys during the winter weather fiasco! You're hearing such terrible stories on the news (like people who passed away b/c the ambulances couldn't get there fast enough) and your heart just breaks. Hopefully they'll get you cleaned up, and fast!

Have a great first week of January!!

Brooke,
I hear ya about he snow. Here in Milwaukee if we got hit that hard it would have been an snow day for the kids and a good day of clean up by the city plows and neighbors shoveling/snowblowing everyone out. Crazy how NY is, maybe they never really see that much snow? :confused3

Let's see.....I'm only 4 days late wishing you guys happy new year! Better late than never I always say. The video of Henry pushing over the pillows was adorable. You could tell he was thinking "is it really okay for me to be standing up here and doing this?"

And yes! the Mickey Ears NY shirts are right there in the middle of Times Square! You just gotta deal with Times Square itself to get one. But so worth it. ;)

Ha, I'd much, much rather fly to FL and spend a week at WDW in order to get one, rather than braving Times Square. ;)

I love your pictures of Henry in the snow! We managed to miss the storm (truly a Christmas miracle -- we had two days of flying and three separate days of driving in Wisconsin in December, and had absolutely no weather problems!), so by the time we got back, it was all black and dirty and gross. Oh well. I was just happy to finally see a garbage truck on our street today -- the garbage situation was getting out of hand, blocking 3/4 of the sidewalk! Ew!

That is some super serious snow you got there! You and Ellen - wowsa. Its funny because I only live about 2 hours south of you and we got about 4 inches. I guess I should consider myself very lucky. Henry looks way cute in his little red snowsuit!

the E's are so jealous, we haven't had any to speak of in a month at our house....couple miles north they got a couple inches but really, what can you do with that?

Very cool you made it in for NYE

Thanks for reminding why I moved south. :rotfl2::rotfl2:

I can't speak for the city but on Long island they would start plowing as the snow fell. I did see some news footage and the plow blade was sparking because it was scraping the street. :lmao: Yup, that is what they would do.

The worst part is the "black" snow. That nasty, get everywhere, never melting until Easter snow.

This last go around here things got clear pretty quickly. Even in my pictures, the road is clear already from use and melting. They even put brine on our neighborhood streets, which they never used to do. Getting out of the neighborhood was the worst part. I guess enough Northerners moved down to show 'em how it is done! ;)

i think we all are starting to save for NYE 2011! Booking at 11months wold mean you could book NEXT MONTH!

Ya, the black snow is YUCK! There are still big patches of frozen ice/snow and we are supposed to get more snow this weekend, so I'm thinking some of that will be here until Easter.

I could book it THIS MONTH actually! :yay: I told Joe that and told him I just might book a room so we have it-we can always cancel. Last time I did the "find a room scramble" around 9 months and it was a PAIN. This year I'd book on-time and take whatever. Plus, we got a 2 bedroom last time, we'd just do a Studio this trip. Gosh, I would LOVE it! It all depends on finances though. I'm not saying it's a go, but I'm not saying no either!

Well, not being from Minnesota or New York,
I have only this to say,
"That's a lot of snow!" :cold:
That's like five years worth of Tennessee snow.
I know you love it there. I guess there's a good spot for everyone. I think I'll be happy right where I am. ::yes::

It is a lot! Even for this Minnesota girl! I do love it here, though Joe and I STILL talk about moving to Florida. We want to take a few days on a future trip and visit Miami since they have a pretty good sized transit system, living there at some point might work for our family. Someday. Not anytime soon unless the Lord tells us something new! I think I would miss fall and a day or two of the chilly weather, but overall, I won't miss it. Plus, we can always VISIT for snow. ::yes:: (or go to WDW and get the fake snow on Main Street or during the Osborne Lights, works for me! :teeth:)

That's actually a lot more snow than I thought you got. We only got about 5 inches here and it's mostly gone already.

It is a lot! When it snows here it DUMPS! We are supposed to get more this weekend, but I haven't heard how much.

Dan (FauntleroyFan07) was for a while because we were teasing him about his spelling. :rotfl2:

Ahhhh! Yes, that's it. So funny!

We were in the 50's yesterday. Are you getting a warm up now too?

We did! It was BEAUTIFUL last weekend. A lot of the snow melted.

I finally caught up. I love the picture of Henry with the little buses in his hand. I can almost hear the plea for them. haha

All of our snow melted yesterday. It was 50 degrees here with thunderstorms.:eek:

He just loved those buses! You'll hear more about them during our DHS day. :goodvibes

We hit 60 here in southern NH today!

60! Nice! I think we got in the upper 50's last weekend, it was just lovely!

I live in Buffalo and we were in the mid- 50s! It was so great! :)

I think that's about where we were at too, it was wonderful!

Brooke, you really take beautiful pictures. I give you a lot of credit for braving the elements with you and Henry!

A snowless winter would be just fine with me! Back in Minnesota I always thought, "as long as it's this cold, we might as well have some pretty snow!" but here, because we have to walk and deal with the stroller, no snow is GOOD. It's not easy, but it's doable. Forces me to be creative with indoor games!

I am with MeMom, that is a lot of snow! Glad Henry had a fun time playing in it! My family also tried to throw snowballs at me! I claimed amnesty because I was holding the camera!

:rotfl2: Your snow pictures made me grin ear to ear! I was SO happy for you guys since I know you always seem to get missed! I told Henry today that it was supposed to snow tomorrow and Saturday and he got very excited, "I jump in it!" :cutie:

:welcome: Glad to have you following along and being able to post!

Minnesnowtan! :lmao: Love that! My family said MN got over 40 inches in just December! That's unreal!!!!!!! My FIL said he can't hardly use the snow blower anymore because the snow banks are so high along the driveway that it won't be blowing snow on top anymore. :headache: What a pain! I hope it lets up for the rest of the winter.

Minnesotans KNOW how to deal with the snow. People here spin their tires for minutes on end trying to get out of a snow bank. I just shake my head.

We have lived here in NYC since June 15. So not too long! I lived here previously, before I was married, for 1.5 years and moved back to MN to marry my hubby and we started our life there. Our goal was always to move back here. It took longer than expected, but we made it! And we LOVE it! We are in Queens, the neighborhood of Astoria, which is just over the East River from Manhattan. If I walk a few blocks I can see the Manhattan skyline. If you and your DH ever visit, definitely let me know, I'll be your tour guide! :goodvibes

I was a bit surprised at the lack of snowplows on the street as well. However, I think they don't bother as much because most companies just allow their workers to work from home on days like that, OR the companies just don't even open! Our street was a ghost town, nothing was open! NYC is a bit like a small town in those ways--businesses run weird hours sometimes, or just don't even open. You'll see hand written signs in the window that say, "Back in 10 minutes, grabbing lunch." - all that kind of stuff. That was one thing that was so strange to me when I first moved here. But it makes sense, many of the businesses are locally owned, not chains, so they don't have a big corporate office or anything. Kinda nice! :thumbsup2

We do love to go out and do as much as we can - the City has so much to offer! It takes extra time and effort some days--like NYE!--but it's worth it. We had a great time and it was an experience!

Oh you just reminded me -- I have got to get a load of laundry done today! While I wish I didn't have to do that, I am glad you reminded me, I would have regretted it later...so thank you!

I do love the relaxing days once I'm in them! I LOVE the parks and always want to go, go, go--but if I force myself to just have a "whatever" day, it makes for such a better trip! Plus a happy husband.

We do get quite a bit of snow here, not nearly as much as MN/WI and it all comes in big dumpings it seems instead of bits here and tehre. So when it does happen, the City shuts down a bit until a couple days later when people have dug their way out. It's nothing like the midwest where we grow up having 6 months of winter and snow. It's such a different world!

Let's see.....I'm only 4 days late wishing you guys happy new year! Better late than never I always say. The video of Henry pushing over the pillows was adorable. You could tell he was thinking "is it really okay for me to be standing up here and doing this?"

Thank you! :goodvibes  about Henry! Yes, he looked at me like like I was a bit crazy since I am constantly saying "Chairs are for sitting." "Don't stand on the couch." Last night as we were putting Henry to bed Joe put his foot up on his bed and Henry called him on it! :rotfl: As a discipline I often put a favorite toy on top of the fridge for a while, so Henry said, "Daddy's iPad goes on the fridge!" It was HILARIOUS!!

Ha, I'd much, much rather fly to FL and spend a week at WDW in order to get one, rather than braving Times Square. ;)

Oh me too! A week in FL versus Times Square? ANY DAY! Though we do find ourselves in Times Square a couple times a month. The giant Toys R Us is a hit with the boy. Sigh.

Wow! You missed it all! How ironic that you didn't get any weather in Wisconsin either.

I'm with ya on the garbage. Right after Christmas too when everyone has double the amount of trash. And streets in the Village are so narrow, all that garbage--yuck! Hopefully this weekends snow isn't such a doozy.

That is some super serious snow you got there! You and Ellen - wowsa. Its funny because I only live about 2 hours south of you and we got about 4 inches. I guess I should consider myself very lucky. Henry looks way cute in his little red snowsuit!

We did get a lot! I wonder where the line was that you didn't get much? I know north of us got a ton too. Are you supposed to get some this weekend?

the E's are so jealous, we haven't had any to speak of in a month at our house....couple miles north they got a couple inches but really, what can you do with that?

Very cool you made it in for NYE

Oh, the poor boys! (I'm sure you don't mind a bit!) I remember as a kid praying for snow. I loved to play in it. But what a pain it is as an adult. My, how things change! I hope you get some, enough to play in, but it disappears quickly after -- that is the best kind of snow!

Hey Brook!

Love all the pictures of Henry playing out in the snow! We only got about 10-12 inches here but it was hard to tell because we had 60+ mph winds which blew it all over the place. Did you see the clip of the front loader getting pulled out of the snow in Queens? (i think it was Queens?)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kt_r-jO3lKE&feature=player_embedded

Who knows- this could of been your street. :lmao::lmao:

Oh my word! I hadn't seen that!!!!!!!!!! :headache::headache::headache: I hope the owner was able to deal with the City on that and get his/her car fixed. Those poor people. I can't imagine dealing with the City on that sort of thing would be a quick process either. At least they have actual proof! :sad2:

And just ANOTHER reason I refuse to have a car here. And if I ever did, I would own a non-street parking spot!
