Of all the things that Disney could add to Hollywood Studios...if you asked people what would you like to see come to the parks , I don't think a bar would be in the top five or ten answers ! Is anyone else bothered by the increasing presence of places to buy alcohol in the parks ? Seems as if this is another way Disney is trying to boost the bottom line with little to no real benefit for most guests and a misguided trend that I hope goes no further on Disney property . Hope the day never comes when "Mickey's All American Pub" opens on Main St. in the Magic Kingdom ! Can't say that it would shock me though if this happened in the future (5-10 years) . Hopefully never but...the way they have been doing almost anything to increase guest spending I wouldn't rule out this possibility .

I don't find it shocking or out of the ordinary. The bar over by the backlot tour closed with the expansion, they were going to do a ToT bar near the exit of ToT but that never happened. So essentially replacing a bar that used to be in the park isn't too odd.

There's not enough room in HS right now to just quickly place a ride, so I don't think Disney execs were in a room deciding between a ride or a bar

Yeah, but what else were they going to put in that spot? Honestly, HS needs more F&B outlets as last time I was there all of the counter service places were mobbed (well, Min & Bills was closed). It took forever to get a burger from the place on Sunset, and the place over by Star Tours was just as crowded. Consider that we lost the rather large CS over by Backlot Tour. The table places at HS are always swamped too.

I mean, you can say they are only trying to boost the bottom line, but that view is shattered by the fact that two new lands and five new rides are coming to HS over the next couple of years. This is just a small addition to an area of the park that could use it.

There are currently 2 lounges at DHS. I don't think a third will hardly hurt at all. It's also in the old space of the Writer's Stop, so it's not like they tore out an attraction to serve beer. They're touting it as a craft beer bar, and as a craft beer fan I will gladly take a place that actually serves good drafts and not Bud Light cans. The amount of people who abuse alcohol in the parks is low. You'd have to have deep pockets to do that anyways.

Nope not shocked or bothered, as a matter of fact when I told my son he was kind of excited. As other's have pointed out, there are already a couple of places to buy alcohol at HS and if I'm not mistaken you can buy it at Fantasmic. A place to sit down, enjoy a refreshing adult beverage and maybe a snack sounds good. Frankly, I was more upset by the closure of GMR to be replaced with a Mickey ride and the whole Toy Story area being more geared toward the smaller kids. When HS first opened up it seemed to be geared more toward the adults, which was just fine with us (even though my son was a tween at the time).

I actually DO think it would be in the top 10 responses. Craft beer is a big thing now and pubs/breweries are favorite places for adults to hang out and relax. At least where I live there are dozens of places and they all seem to be thriving. You can bring your own food, bring your dog, and (at most) bring your children as well. I see it more along the lines of coffee shops in the 90s-- a place to gather, listen to music, play board games, etc. that also happens to serve alcohol.

I can only guess that perhaps you're thinking from the perspective of a family trip with small children. But there are plenty of adults of all ages with no children and adults whose children are either grown or old enough to explore the parks on their own. And, I think the majority of people in those categories would welcome a place in the parks to relax and have a beer.

You make a good point, forgot about that bar , but this isn't something , I
think wanted or needed especially in such a prime location . Besides , I believe they will have a Star Wars themed cantina in Galaxies Edge .

When I read about it, I pretty much didn't think anything of it. I doubt we'll go in, but it doesn't bother me at all.

Well , the reason I feel to go to WDW is to experience unique shows and attractions that you can't anywhere else . This addition is not something that will enhance the park experience for most people . It is not a unique experience that you can only find at WDW . The bottom line is everything is not for everyone and we all will do what we enjoy and makes us happy . My point is that I believe there is something else , something better they could've put in this area that could be enjoyed by all and that Disney is slowly making alcohol more accessible in the parks , and that is not a good thing .

They are in the midst of adding lands for Toy Story and Star Wars. You make it sound like this is the ONLY thing they are adding.

This really is a non issue for me. I also don't feel like the parks are changing their image at all due to a few added places to get alcoholic beverages.

We are excited about it. We always enjoy checking out themed bars and no one themes a bar quite like Disney does. My DH was SOOOOO disapointed that the TOT bar never came to fruition, so he is really looking forward to this new one.

I'm really looking forward to it. Yes, my husband and I have young children, and yes, we enjoy a couple of beers every now and then -- especially when on vacation. Beer gardens and breweries are popping up all around us, so I'm not surprised Disney is following suit.

Disney is figuring out that MANY of their guests are adults, I know on any given trip we way outnumber the kids. We have slowly seen more and more adult offerings. And with Disney prices those adult offerings are quite profitable.

Re the new Tap House .... pretty excited about it and was visualizing myself taking a break out on the patio with a cold beer and snack. I'm hoping it feels like a sidewalk cafe in the Village, NYC. This particular location would not be big enough for a true dining location and never made it as store location. I think this will be a huge hit. And I think they are building it because a very large number guests want these sorts of places. The Cantina will likely be PACKED so I don't think they will even compete with each other.

I would not be the least bit surprised to see more alcohol arrive to the MK. In 2018 each meal credit includes an alcoholic beverage, even quick serve .... and there is no quick serve beer in the MK .... folks will feel ripped off and be demanding the ability to utilize their QS credits in full in the park. I won't even blink if we wake up New Years Day to find out this will be a new option for 2018.
