Bare Minerals vs Major Brands Mineral Makeup

Here's another vote for Everyday Minerals! Their makeup leaves a really nice finish, great coverage, and you can't beat the price. I also love that you can try several different shades for $3.95. You can order several sample sets until you find the colors you like. :thumbsup2

I tried Sheer Cover a few years ago and hated it. It seemed to emphasize every line and crease, and felt cakey. Plus, I didn't like that they wanted to keep sending you makeup you didn't need & keep charging your credit card. Such a scam. I only buy makeup when I'm out & need more.

Haha! I think all the DISsers ordering samples are slowing down their site. :rotfl: I've been using BE for 5 years and I love it. I've looked at the EM before, but was just confused about what to get. I'm going to look again and try ordering some samples.

Everyone here must be ordering from Everyday Minerals because I can't get the site to work and I want to order dangit. Was going to order a sample kit, brush and some lip color but can't get it to work. Grrrr

I may need to re-try EM. I got some samples but it seemed to highlight my dry patches more than BM. I think I might have also gotten too light of colors.

When you get the samples how to you get it onto your brush? With BM I put it in the lid, but the EM samples are too small for that.

I ordered my sample kit a couple days ago. I also ordered a large mixing jar(it only cost $2) because I was told how difficult/messy it was to get the makeup out of the sample size jar.

On another forum, someone suggested to me the Southern Magnolia Minerals makeup. It is free of talc, perservatives, chemicals, dyes, oils, perfumes & bismuth(which is apparently what causes the itchiness in other brands). They have a 12 pc sample kit for $12.95 + free shipping(includes 3 foundations, 1 blush, 1 concealer, 1 green concealer, 1 yellow concealer, 1 corrector, 1 finishing veil, 1 bronzer, 1 perfection powder, and 1 5" powder brush.)

Another place your might want to try is Pureluxecosmetics.com. I am a former BE user and I heard about Pure Luxe and EM on the budget board. I am now using a combination of the PL and EM. Pure Luxe will let you order unlimited samples. The samples are $1.00 for a little pot (same size as EM samples). I buy samples of the eye shadows and they will last for months! PL also has something very similar to BM's Mineral Veil, called April's Mix. It is so pretty and gives you a nice air brushed look after you put on your foundation. I love it! Pure Luxe is also bismuth free so you shouldn't have the itching problems.

How often can you order the samples?

From EM? I ordered 2 times last month for samples (1 order I also ordered some lip balm with it) So I would think that they don't have a "limit" since you are paying shipping.

I have always loved trying all different types of makeup. I used to wear Lancombe, Dior, Clinique, Clarins, Shiseido, etc, etc. My needs changed as my skin became extremely sensitive, so I changed to Bare Minerals a few years ago (learning about it here on the Dis).

I was doing a makeup search a few months ago, here, to find out about Sheer Minerals, and someone recommended Everyday Minerals. Because the company had samples for a minimal price, I decided to try it. Well, I started in November, and I am hooked. I was worried it would be "cheap" because it was so much less than BE, but it is totally not the case.

I like Everyday Minerals because you can opt for more coverage by selecting that in your foundation. Also, the colors are much better for my very fair (and pink) skin.

THANK YOU! I seriously thought it was just me itchin from BM, glad to know I am not alone. I just ordered the freebies now and am looking forward to tryin it out. I have been using BM for over 2 years and it was time for a change.

I've been using EM for a while. Is the semi-matte finish for oily skin? I have dry skin and have been going back to liquid make up in the winter.

With EM, every order you put in you can order a sample. I like their 6 piece custom starter kit. You get 2 or 3 brushes--their premium brushes are the best.

I really like EM's Soft bronzer. I use it like BE's Warmth, but that color was always way too dark for me.

Thanks for all the advice everyone is giving. :) I'm going to try out some of these makeups. The makeup junkie in me cannot resist!

OK - you guys got me convinced - I ordered some samples and the small Kabuki brush. Is this brush as good quality as the Kabuki BM sells?

Oh dear - I just saw under their specials a 7% discount and a free brush and blush with $30 after discounts. Yep, I had to get my order up to qualify! They know what they're doing.:rotfl: I ordered that other kit with sample sizes to try to find the right foundation. Let's keep this thread rolling.:woohoo:

I haven't tried their brush but have bought some other kabuki brushes. So far, no one's kabuki brush is as good as Bare Mineral's brush.

I like both the Kabuki's Ive gotten - as well as a 'half moon' one, and the eyeliner one.

I ordered a sample kit and the mini Kabuki brush from EM last night and I was surprised when I got into work this morning at 8 and found it had shipped already. Now that is speedy. I tried Avon's mineral makeup but the shades were not right. The light made me look dead and the next shade was too dark. I like how I can get 3 different color samples from EM to find the right shade for me. Hopefully it will come soon. I also could not resist getting the blush named Theme Park. It's the Disney junkie in me.

OK, I'm in. I'm trying to order the samples now but I'm having a hard time with colors. I'm brunette, brown eyes, kind of olive, kind of jaundiced skin tone. ;) I have VERY dark eyelids and undereye area and have been searching for something to help.

Everytime I come to the DIS I spend money. ;)

I use the yellow and neutral based ones. My color sounds like yours.

Im tan - pretty much year round - so I get the Buttered Tan.

Will you PM (or post) a pic for me - Im good at picking colors.

AND FYI FOR EVERYONE...

The swatches of colors, are pretty inaccurate. BUT - the descriptions are dead on. So be sure to READ the descriptions. :thumbsup2

fraggle,

I am a fair brunette, who burns and sometimes tans (blue eyes) with lots of red/pink in my skin (think of rosacea:cutie: ). Anyway, the "cool" shades at Everday Minerals are the BEST!!

You just described me perfectly.
I should go try it
