Bare Minerals vs Major Brands Mineral Makeup

OK - you guys got me convinced - I ordered some samples and the small Kabuki brush. Is this brush as good quality as the Kabuki BM sells?

I have never used a BM brush, but the Kabuki from EM is wonderful- extremely soft!! This Baby Buki is brand new, so I haven't used it, but I have the Long Handled Kabuki and the Flat Top, and I love both of them.

How'd I miss this thread? I just ordered some things from EM before seeing this. This will be my first time trying mineral makeup. I'm pretty much out of my make up so I was looking for some new stuff.

I looked at makeupalley.com and they have reviews of make up. EM has good reviews so I tried it.

I hope I can figure out how to use it. Does it get everywhere when you're putting it on?

I use a saucer plate - tap out what I need (and I have a tendency to mix things in - like the sparkle bronzer) smoosh it all up - tap off the extra and start applying.

It KINDA does fly all over the place - just tap well.

CathrynRose,

I should have sent a picture to you for advice. :goodvibes I did e-mail them and tried to explain my coloring. They e-mailed me back and asked for a pic:laughing: Don't they understand that I am the only one in my family that actually takes the pictures? So amazingly, it seems I have never been on any of our family trips :rotfl: Not to mention I am not sending anyone a close up of my face:scared1:

I ordered a bunch of sample foundations, so I'll hope for the best. I use Clinque's Stay True in Stay Porcelain. I'm pretty fair, but the gal suggested mostly medium shades.

SO -- all you experts, post some of your best tips, because some of us who just ordered have never used this type of make-up.

:thumbsup2 That'd be great!

I use a similar method as CathrynRose. I learned it from the Sheer Cover DVD many years ago. Sheer Cover always recommended shaking some of the makeup out on a piece of paper and dipping the brush that way. So that's how I got started. When I switched to BM, I tried the whole "putting it in the lid" method but, man, what a mess.

So, now I just tear a page out of my favorite already-read magazine (pages from Oprah's "O" magazine work best because the are large and a lot of them are really light colored) and I use that for a while. Because the magazine pages are glossy, the makeup lifts off them really well (versus uses a page of printer paper). I fold it up when I'm done and reuse it several times. That way, the makeup is not all over the counter.

I have a mini kabuki brush for the foundation (LOVE that brush!), and I use a smaller brush (same brush) for both the blush and the warmth (or the pink radiance, depending on the season.) I use a big fluffy brush for the finishing dust (mineral veil.)
I know about concealer and foundation and blush, but what is the finishing dust/mineral veil?

Ditto.

I got DD 21 to order the sample kit and I am going to order samples too.

Received my samples today. I really like the instensive multi-tasking foundation color. Conceals my blemishes and matches my skin tone very well.

I also ordered the blush in chit chat and love that as well. I am going to try another foundation in the next shade up before ordering the big version.

How's everyone else making out?

I got my today but I haven't had a chance to try it yet. I think my blush looks too dark though.

I even had a small travel brush set that works well with these samples.

Keep posting everyone. I'd love to hear your thoughts on colors.

Tonight I put the fair on one half of my face and multi-tasking on other side. The multi tasking foundation gives just a touch of color to my complection. Looks like I'll be ordering a bigger jar now.

I got my everyday minerals today and the southern magnolia samples on Saturday. At this point, I can't really tell if it's working for me without the proper brushes. What kind of brushes is everyone using? Is there something I can pick up at Walmart or CVS that someone can recommend?

Also, like a pp asked, I am interested in knowing what the mineral veil is as well.

Ok, I have a question. I'm reading info on the eye colors and they mention the color making a good lip color??? How is that possible? Isn't it a flakey powder?

Some people mix the powder with a little lip balm or Vaseline, then apply. Or use a lip brush (primed with a little balm or gloss) dipped into the powder- apply to lips, then slick on gloss over.

Ok...that makes sense. Thanks so much.

I got my samples today and wow. I love them. Gonna have to order some full size jars. The cool medium foundation is perfect for my skin tone. It looks so natural. The Theme Park blush looks fantastic. I also got the Pick Me Up Pink powder which I put on over the foundation and blush and it gave my skin this smooth, soft glow to it. I love this stuff. And the baby kabuki brush is awesome for applying the foundation. So glad I got it.

How do I get the sample set from Everyday Minerals? I can't seem to find it on their site.
