Bare Mineral Users? Make-up $$/advice!?

DH and I use the Monistat for all kinds of things. We rub it on our feet at Disneyland to keep from getting blisters and recently I have been using it on my lower leg each day because I'm recovering from a broken foot and wearing a cam walker. It really makes the cam walker more comfortable in the 100 degree plus heat. Today, after reading this thread, I tried it as a makeup primer and absolutely loved it! :lovestruc It will be in my makeup routine each day from now on. Thanks, DisLadies!

I use Bare Escentuals and would love to try the Everyday Minerals. I use BE shade 2N, Medium Beige, but have no idea what samples of the Everyday Minerals to pick. Anyone have an idea of how the shades compare?

Love, love, love everyday minerals!!! In fact, I need to place an order tonight!

I love the intensive foundations. I have rosacea, so I have a little bit of red blotchiness that I need to cover. Also, my skin is super sensitive and I often have really dry and flaky skin. I generally use a little bit of organic coconut oil on my face about 1/2 hour before I apply my EM, and that helps with the flakiness some...but I am now really anxious to try the Monistat! I am going to go buy some tomorrow!!!

After reading this thread, I am thinking about getting the Everyday Minerals samples. Could anyone explain the differences between the "types" of foundation. I wondered if the "intensive" or the "matte" may be too cakey looking? Opinions?

Sure....

Intensive has the most coverage.
Matte is the 'matte'est.
Semi Matte is somewhere in between Glo and Matte
Glo is glowey - but very little coverage.

For me - I mix intensive and matte in the summer. "Naturally" you're gonna looks 'glowey' in the summer, anyways. And the intensive/matte keeps shine under bay.

I use the Semi Matte for winter.

And I use the Glo when I'm just running to the grocery store.

My understanding is the Glo is the most similar to BE. But again - very little coverage. IMO, not really worth bothering with, but that's just me.

I'm not familiar with BE color lines. I can tell you this - the EM swatches of color aren't as accurate as the actual worded descriptions. The worded descriptions are dead on.

OR - if you email them, they will walk you through choosing your best color. Their customer service is really, really good.

So it looks like the monistat could be used in place of a moisturizer, is that correct?

I suppose you could. I never used a moisturizer before foundation, and instead now use this. But I do believe some women use the moisturizer, then Monistat, then foundation. :)

And just eyeballing your signature pic (which could be off, of course) I'd imagine you'd be more of a golden or a warm?

I almost wonder if we'd be close to the same color. (why I tossed your picture up, so I could see it next to mine)

I use Warm Buttered Tan. But you're a bit different - what about this one:

Golden-Winged Butter
Ideal for those with light golden complexions. Whilst giving perfect coverage, its strong, rich yellow tones impart a beautiful glow, leaving your skin looking creamy and smooth - just like butter!

or this one:

Warm-Medium Beige
Perfect for those with lightly tanned complexions and have soft peachy undertones. While this is the peachiest in its category, it has a hint of warm hues to balance it out.

Hi i use the eyes lips face company for makeup (ELF) most of their makeup is only a dollar and while I havent tried the mineral makeup I cant post the link on here but its eyeslipsface DOT com. I just tried their makeup and stocked up on it bc of the price. I really like their eyeshadows and brushes. Just figured id let you know of a cheaper one. Not sure how it will do with sensitive skin but worth a shot I suppose! good luck :)

Your skin sounds just like mine. I'm thinking of switching from BE to EM. I use BE's make up primer and like it but $$$. Thanks to all of you who have chimed in about the Monostat!

Thanks, CathrynRose. I think the picture is pretty accurate on colors.

I'm going to try to order the samples later today and will give your suggestions a go. Thanks again!

Thanks again everyone!! :goodvibes sorry I was MIA for the past 2 days.. my boyfriends bday and we were out of town! Great tips, advice and products!!! :thumbsup2

Well I was reading along with this over the last couple days. I used to wear only the best makeup but with 3 kids and their expenses, I'd use whatever was cheapest. It didn't look very good and I hated it but I always felt guilty putting the $ towards make up and not for the family. My DH (who is the most wonderful DH ever anyway) told me this really bothered him, he wanted me to have it and I deserved it and I really felt like it was something he wanted me to do as much as I wanted it, so with us getting ready to go out of town alone for the first time next weekend for a wedding, he said NOW IS THE TIME. So, I am going to Ulta this weekend to get some good stuff but yesterday at the store I bought the Monistat. I can't wait to try it. (I didn't use it today with my old make up.)

:woohoo:Thanks for the tips, I am really excited about this. I am going to order the samples suggested too, but we leave in 6 days so I need something I can go buy for our trip.

Where did you find the monistat?! I went to 2 CVS stores and one Walgreens-no luck. Walgreens did care that monistat line but only had an anti itch cream. I really want to just buy 1 tube to try before I have to order a 3 pack on ebay....hmmm wonder if anyone on ebay sells single packs?

I found it at my grocery store. I did read it was hard to find but they had plenty and it was only $6. I shop at Wegman's, but maybe your grocery store is the way to go. Good Luck!!!

You won't be disappointed with the Bare Escentuals. It lasts a long time so I don't think the cost is that much more than buying $10 or $12 foundations at the drug store.

Thanks, I appreciate that. I hate to waste money and often feel like I do on stuff that doesn't look or feel good, so maybe in the end I will switch and actually SAVE money!!!

TARGET. i should have posted it may be hard to find. TARGET is the only place I have found it. Walmart, Walgreens and my local grocery chain (HyVee) don't carry it here. If you order from drugstore.com they have it also.

So, I went to Ulta today. I got the Bare Minerals starter kit and a blush. Eye stuff and lips I don't mind going cheap on, plus just that ran me $80!:scared1: I can't wait till tomorrow to try it all WITH the Monistat.

My DH went with me and saw they had a salon there and talked me into getting my hair colored so I will be back there tomorrow. I had highlites for about 15 years but stopped (again, felt the money was better spent on the kids) but I did feel so much more confident when I was put together, so I'm going for it. I figure it is my gift to myself, I have lost 22 pounds since New Years. By tomorrow afternoon I will feel like a whole new me.

OK, I feel I should be banished from the BB, but I got the Bare Minerals, the monistat, and today got my hair highlited. I feel amazing! I never thught I'd spend money reading the BB, but feel so grat about it. I was out all morning shopping, went and got my hair done, had dinner, went and played tennis with my hubby and the make up is still on and looks pretty darn good.

Anyway, thanks for the info from all of you. I spent $200 but feel like a $1,000,000!

The only thing is I dont know if its just me putting it on wrong or something, but Bare Minerals is not having the same effect when I first used it 3 years ago, I dont get that "air-brush" look or cover.. and it looks like im not wearing makeup at all and my face looks horrible! Other than that I'd like to go back and buy more Bare Minerals--I just thought I would have a solution buying something from Walmart/Target.. but so far not so good...

I got this tip on a makeup board - I don't know which one, but I think it was started by a DIS Board member. Anyway, to get that perfect "air-brushed" look using BM - tap, swirl, then mist (very lightly) with water and apply until the brush is dry. You may have to experiment with how many sqirts of water is enough "mist" I just use a very small bottle with a sqirter top that I got at Target in travel bins and it works great. It will give you an air-brushed, dewey look. I love it & would not go back.

HTH
