Baptism question...gift for church???

If we are having our new daughter baptised, shouldn't we give a "gift" to the church or pastor? I found a great card actually for a pastor...a thank you card to boot. Should I put a check or cash donation in it, or how should I handel this? I honestly don't remember what we did last time. We are technically, members of this church, but have not attended in some time...since our last pastor passed away a few years ago. This pastor seems very nice over the phone and we are meeting on Saturday. Should I just ask him? Can anyone help me?

We have had two children baptised by two different priests.

We offered $ to the priest the first time, which he refused and told us to use it for the baby.

We offered $ to the priest the second time, which he accepted on behalf of the church. I swear this priest was intoxicated at the service, but that's a story for another post.

Have any of your friends or family had a child baptized by this pastor. Maybe they can tell you what they did and what his reaction was. I think a card with a monetary donation would be nice.

I always give a cash donation to the church. We hand it to the pastor.

I have never given a gift to the pastor (two children baptised in the Presbyterian Church). I didn't even think of it.
That being said we are very active in our church and give generously every month

I know some churches do private baptisms, so I could see some sort of gift being appropriate then. Our Episcopal Church does baptisms during the Sunday services a few times a year (on specific holy days), so there is no payment or gift expected. Actually, they give a small gift to the babies to welcome them to the church. It's just a candle, a booklet, and a very nice linen bib embroidered with their name and the date.
