Banshees and Airport Security?

Someone told me they had theirs "confiscated" at MCO because they wouldn't permit the poor guy in carry-on luggage

Oh, I bet there was more to that story...

I carried mine on. As long as your airline permits csrry-one or you've paid for a carry on you should be fine.

And tsa has nothing to do with what your airline allows. They don’t care how many things you’re taking through security. What you can take on the plane is between you and the gate agents.

What airline allows you to have two carry-ons?

Almost all of them?

The airlines I've flown on had pretty strict restrictions on what was considered a personal item - a backpack would have counted as the carry-on, and the other item would have to have been smaller? I've seen them turn people away at the gate and have them pay to check a large item when they've had a backpack. They have those shapes you have to fit your bag into.

What airline is that?

Backpacks can almost always go under the seat. A proper carryon sized bag is bigger than you might expect. Most US airlines and most fares allow a proper carryon sized bag up above and something that can go under the seat.

"Confiscated?" did they have a knife hidden in it? It's a plastic toy.
I know, right?!?! He just said that they wouldn't let him take it as carry-on and he felt that he didn't have enough time before his flight to leave security to check it. I thought it was pretty over the top, that's why I asked here to see if maybe it was an isolated incident. Sounds like it's certainly not a common occurrence!

I am well versed on flying (unfortunately) as I fly r/t at least once a month and our backpacks (as well as a banshee box) are well within the personal item restrictions never mind the "carry on" size restriction.

OT but the banshee boxes would have also fit fine under the seats in front of us along with the backpacks but since there was plenty of room in the overhead bin we put them there.

The link below from swa clearly shows a backpack as a personal item.

Not sure what your point is - as the OP was asking about Banshee being allowed through TSA and they are.

Has anyone had any trouble getting their Banshee through security at the airport? Someone told me they had theirs "confiscated" at MCO because they wouldn't permit the poor guy in carry-on luggage ...

My niece really wants to get one on her trip, but it will break her heart if they made her leave him behind.

Thanks for any info!
Sorry, I don't believe anyone had their Banshee confiscated. Don't care what they claim. If it was taken, there was more to it. It was taken because of something else they packed inside it.

We flew home with 2 of them, in our carry on bags. Right when Pandora opened, so before they were common place. There's nothing about them to cause even a second glance from security.

I hated the thought it paying yet more to ship them home. They cost enough as it is (and we paid the original price, before the increases) I sure didn't want to pay more. Thankfully, with 2 bags each to check, 2 bags each on the plane, we had plenty of room to get them home. I always travel with a large Vera duffle flat in my suitcase, just to use for souvenirs.

When you have it shipped home at the time of purchase on property, you do not pay the sales tax, just the shipping charge. The other plus is that if it gets damaged during shipping it will be replaced. If you carry it home and it is damaged in route, you are out of luck.

We flew with one last yr. Ds carried it in the box through security and then the banshee flew on his shoulder/lap on the plane. The box was stored overhead. After we arrived home yds wanted one. My friend bought one for us on her trip and the store in AK packed and shipped it to us. No problems either way.

Thank you everyone for all of your replies! Feeling much better about trying to get her new friend home! pixiedust:

I didn't ever buy one but I have seen more kids (and a few adults) putting their adopted banshees in their boxes through the x ray at MCO than I care to count. So I'm pretty sure whoever "confiscated" it wasn't from TSA Security (unless it had something stored inside it, nudge nudge) so I'm guessing it was an airline. However I'm thinking that box will fit under airline seat easily. Just make sure you're not carrying too many items to bring onboard. Most airlines will accept it as a personal item if it will fit under the seat.
