Hello everyone,
I have a question maybe someone can help me with.

Our use year is October. Since we were not planning any trips before Oct this year, we decided to bank them before our March 31 deadline. But know we changed our minds, and are planning a trip for Sept.

If we borrow from next year, for our Sept trip, what happens if we have to cancel? Do we lose the borrowed points?

I know that if we borrow some of next year's points to go in Sept, the we must his year's banked points next year. (very confusing) That's not a problem. We are planning to go next year Anyways. What worries me is: What happens to borrowed points if we have to cancel. And how much time we have to use them afterward. Please help.

Thanks

They will be put in holding if you cancel less than 30 days before your trip. If you cancel more than 30 days before the trip, the points will go back into your current use year, since they are borrowed, and you would have to use them before October 1st.

You are putting yourself into the situation where Use Year might matter.

You have an October Use Year. You are planning a trip for September. You are going to borrow points to book this trip. Those points will have to be used by September 30 no matter what. They cannot be banked.

If you cancel close to September, your options will be further limited. You may find that you have to use the points to stay at a DVC resort. Once you are into your last 60 days of the Use Year (August 1-September 30 in your case), you can no longer make reservations at non-DVC resorts or other options. You would be able to travel during this time, but would have had to make the reservations prior to that time.

Just keep in mind that there is no problem, except if you have to cancel anytime after June.
