I'm really excited....booked our 1st Grand Villa!

I had never banked and booked for the next year.....always used current and borrowed points. I snagged the ressie and CM went through the spiel on "borrowing is a final transaction"... I informed her I wanted to use my '09 and '10 points. CM says, "we have to let the ressie go, bank your points into '10 and try to rebook!!":scared1:

I was elated and deflated in all of about 20 seconds. We booked this week during F&W and was afraid our dates would be gone (we were not flexible). Luckily, we didn't lose the ressie.

BTW...we were able to visit a newly decorated GV. It was very nice.:goodvibes

Sorry, but you lost me on this one! What do you mean you had to lose the ressie, but then you got it back???? It would seem you forgot to make the '09 banking transaction BEFORE you did the booking one...is that the case? You shouldn't have had to call back though....we often bank and book in the same call.

I didn't forget to bank....I didn't know it couldn't be done in one transaction at the time of booking. I had only used current and borrowed points for a reservation, in the past. I had the ressie, but the CM had to release it. I had to bank '09 points and then rebook.

The reservation is for '10. I could have used '10 points and borrowed from '11 without releasing the ressie, but had to let it go in order to use available '09 points.

I'm just happy my dates were still available while I received a tutorial in "banking/borrowing/booking".

For those who may not know, you CAN do it all on the same call. However, as TLSnell1981 learned, you must ask the CM to bank the points BEFORE you make the reservation. The banked points have to be in the correct use year to be used for a reservation.

That's different from borrowing. If you have to borrow, you can only do it in conjunction with making the reservation that will actually use the points.

Here is another item that most members don't know.

The MS Advisers do not hold the room inventory. Until the transaction is completed, the possibility exists that the requested inventory may disappear. We have had this happen two times in that last two years.

I contacted Member Satisfaction and learned that only Managers and Team Line Advisers have the ability to hold inventory.

I had a CM make my ressie first then go back and bank points, then reallocate or use the banked points in place of current use year points. I did not have to cancel the ressie.

You were lucky to have gotten an experienced CM. They are not all equally good at their jobs and not all training occurs prior to a CM being "put on the line".

I knew that it was possible, but I think it is the best interest of the member to do things in the proper order. It takes less time, results in a cleaner transaction history and removes some of the risk of something going wrong. The more times a CM touches your account, the more chances of a mistake to be made. Why tempt fate? ;) :)

I felt it was more of a priority to get the reservation switched first. Once I knew I had the booking I felt better giving the CM more time for the banking and reallocating process. Yes, this CM was very experienced

This was my reasoning, but it didn't work for me. I didn't want to bank my points until I was assured of the ressie (and didn't know it was necessary). I'm just happy all ended well.

I was successful as well. I had a ressie booked at 11 months at AKV and extended it by a couple of days after the 7 month mark, all using AKV 2008 banked and 2009 current points. I then added on a small BCV contract and had 2008 points which needed to be used for this vacation or I would lose them.

The CM banked the 2008 BCV points and then did a points reallocation on the existing AKV ressie, using those 2008 BCV points toward the nights I booked at 7 months, returning the same amount of 2009 AKV points to my account. There was no cancel and rebook required. It was simply a reallocation of points.
