Banked Pts and Extension Question

I want to confirm something for an upcoming trip please. I am looking to book SSR in October 2013 and enjoy MNSSHP.

Here is a current summary of my point situation:

Use Year October 2012
Total Annual Allotment of Vacation Points - 150
Total Vacation Points Remaining - 226
Total Vacation Points Available to Bank - 150

The cost of SSR is approx 296 for the week. So, a couple of questions:

1) Do I need to use at least 226 by the end of Sept 2013 or they will disappear? If yes, as long as I start the vacation in Sept would it be considered using 'all' vacation points in my 2012 use year? And I would then be borrowing 70 pts from 2013 Use Year to cover the difference.

2) Is there any option to 'carry over' the points into October 2013 if I really need to? Is there any type of 30 day 'flexible' window, or option to pay xx per point to carry over?

Of the 226 points you have in your Oct 2012 UY, 150 can be banked into your Oct 2013 UY. You have until the end of May 2013 to bank those bankable points into your Oct 2013 UY. There is no fee to bank points.

You have 76 points that are not bankable and must be used for a reservation that has a checkout date on or before 10/01/2013. These 76 points can't be banked and will be lost if not used before your Oct 2012 UY ends.

Yes, you could use those 76 points to start your vacation in September but you'd need to make two reservations. One would end October 1 and the other would begin October 1. The system doesn't allow a single reservation to span two use-years.

Points are actually used day by day related to check in day not check out. You could use them for a Sept check in and any days that start in Sept including 30 Sept which would end in Oct. I assume you're looking at a 2 BR for 6 nights or so, if so, you could start 2 days earlier and only lose 3 points. I'm not sure if you have to have 2 separate reservations in this situation but even if you do they can link them and it should be seamless.

The online reservation system won't allow you make a reservation that crosses a use year, but I did recently make a reservation by phone that crossed my use year under one reservation number. The points used, of course, had to come from the proper use year for each segment of the reservation.

I think you understand that the answer to your question 2 is to bank your 150 2012 points. But just to make sure, in your question 1, you are not borrowing points from your 2013 year. As Dean said, think about your vacation one night at a time. Any night up to and including Sept. 30 are in your 2012 UY, and starting the night of Oct. 1, you are in your 2013 UY.
