Bangs or no bangs (hair)?

I've had bangs before, but given my thick wavy hair, they don't suit me well and they take way too long to deal with. So I've been bang-less for about 10 years now and love it :)

I've always alternated between the bangs and no-bangs look. I usually go a few years with, then a few without before I cut them again.

Right now my bangs are long and swept to the side. I like them because I can clip them back if I want to or I can just wear them as bangs.

I feel like I have to have bangs when I pull my hair back into a ponytail. I don't like having nothingn at all around my face!!!

I have bangs but I do not use them!

I wear my hair to the side and it's very thick with spiral curls, so they do not look like conventional bangs. They have their own natural curl to them.

I like an asymetrical look. :tilt:

I have long bangs. I grew my bangs out in junior high, but a few months ago I got bangs for the first time in years. I have a cowlick in my bangs, right along the line where I part all of my hair, so they're long and I part them, but they're there. I could go either way, but DH really likes them.

Ok, here's something I've always wondered about. Why are they called "bangs" anyway? It's an odd word.

This I actually know. It comes from the term bang tail, which was a horse who's tail was cut horizontally straight across.

I have bangs, just don't look right without them. It's too bad too, I have a nice forehead. Even when I lift my eyebrows, it doesn't crease, so I doubt I'll get any wrinkles on my forehead. I did grow them out once and they were long for a couple of years, as soon as I cut them, I got compliments. :confused3 Dh hated the way I looked without bangs too. Oh well.

Thank you, Crankyshank! I knew there was someone on the DIS who could enlighten me. :teeth:

And, disneyrsh, DH is British and he does call my bangs a "fringe"--that's what made me wonder where the word bangs comes from. Fringe sounds nicer, I think!

I'm in the process of growing mine out. They're really long right now and I think i'm going to stick it out this time. My hair is very curly, so I have to straighten my bangs every morning and if it's humid, they curl up and look like a poodle nested on my head. After 26 years of that, I'm finally sick of it. So they're going DOWN, baby!

When I got older, bangs became an essential part of overall beauty strategy. They hide wrinkles on my forehead.

I'm thinking of getting long bangs. I look like a 12 year old if they're straight across my forehead but it might look nice if they were swept to the side.

I haven't had bangs in years. It is so much easier forme without them plus I am not one to make the time for the regular haircut (I have been known to go 6 months or more when I was growing my hair for LOL) and I didn't colormy hair then.

I don't do bang on any my my girls hair too for the same reason.
