any info on the banana boat ride? do you wear a life jacket? how long is the ride? is it fun? see anything good?

I haven't done this, but I have heard that it is a good idea to wear googles or a mask due to the amount of salt water that will hit you in the face!

The banana boat is pulled by a jet ski very quickly out along side and then past the ship. They stop for a minute, (we took some pictures with a waterproof camera) and then they race back!

As we went by the ship, people were taking pictures and laughing from their verandahs!

Hold on for dear life! It's a very bouncy, fun ride. We were screaming/laughing the whole time. My hands were clenched so tight, it was hard to unclench them! Wearing goggles or sunglasses with a strap is a very good idea. And yes, you do wear a life vest.

People have been know to fall off! I think they gave us a wistle to blow if someone fell off, although it didn't happen to us.

All 10 people on our ride fell off on the way back to shore, my glasses are still laying on the bottom of the ocean. It was a BLAST, we can't wait to do it again this August, the only thing is, my glasses will be with my DW on the shore!!!

Andy,
Are you still offering a reward for those glasses?

It is located left of the family beach on CC. The cost was $14.00 per person for about a 20 minute ride.

Castaway Cay - I believe you can sign up ahead of time (the 60 day window after final payment) it is listed under the Castaway Cay excursions..

Definitely a lot of salt water in the face! Was fun, but like the others hands didn't want to unclench and legs were shaking from holding on for dear life :)

Yes, you can sign up 60 days out (final payment must be posted)

My tip: Book the last time slot of the day, then you can get right on the ship from there.

I found that to be much more convenient. We could get all of our beach time in, especially over at Serenity Bay and then it was right on the way back to the ship!

If you or anyone in your group is small, make sure they don't sit at the front of the banana boat. My side of the boat was flung off once, (just to let you know, the water isn't deep, so don't panic if you get thrown off), but for a good 2/3 of the ride, my mom had to hold onto my life jacket as I keep lifting off the seat.I was holding on (for dear life) so tightly that when we got back to shore, I was shaking so hard I couldn't walk.

Just make sure any small people are in the middle seats. It might make for an easier ride!

Where do you get the banana boat rides? We are only taking a 4 night cruise...will it even be available to us?

You can take the Banana Boat Ride on Castaway Cay. You can sign up for this excursion on your 60 day out mark, as long as your final payment has been made.

I sort of resemble that when I come back from horseback riding.....but the landing is much softer in water and you can find your glasses if they fly off!

No one on our ride fell off - but many were close to it. We had one woman who laughed hysterically the entire time!!!:bounce: She was a riot!!
We didn't wear goggles, but it might not be a bad idea. LOTS of salt water in your face.
It really is a lot of fun & I loved go out past the ship & looking back @ CC.
I took an underwater camera with us & came close to falling off every time I tried to snap a picture. You have to be fast! It's very bumpy.

I think that at least half of the people fell off our boat at least one time (many more then once). It was defiantly an adventure in itself. I am not sure I could get MIL, or myself, back on the banana boat again for our upcoming cruise. It is worth trying at least once that’s for sure!

Does one have to be able to swim to participate on the ride? Would it be safe for a non-swimmer to do?

This is what is stated on the DCL website about the BBR.

Banana Boat Ride (17-20 minutes)

Get ready to peel out on a wild ride on a large inflatable boat that looks like a banana! You'll skim the sparkling Caribbean waters for approximately 17 minutes while the banana boat is pulled along by a jet ski. Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. Guests must be 8 years and older and be able to swim.

Adult Price: $14 (ages 10 and above)
Child Price: $14 (ages 8-9)
Departure Times: Every 30 minutes beginning at 10:30 am on the Disney Magic and 8:50 am on the Disney Wonder

dclwdwlover - My Pop came from Rouses Point - that's about as far as you can get!!!

Don't look at me to banana boat ride - I would be screaming so loud the boat would "vote" me off!

When I went on my cruise with a group of friends they all wanted to go on the banana boat and I didn't. I am not a strong swimmer and I can't go under without holding my nose. They talked me into it though.
I took my first ride and the 6 of us had a ball. My friends told me to sit in the back because it would be less bumpy. I think they were pulling my leg, but I sat there. My hands were sore from holding on tight but I never fell off. The boat driver even gave me the whistle in case anyone fell off. The water was very calm and we had a great ride, a few bumps but nothing I couldn't handle.
We got off the boat and my first words were "let's do that again" We signed up again and had a larger group with us the 2nd time, 8 people. some of us are much larger than the average so we had a problem getting off shore. The spotter got off the boat and we went out with only the driver.
The water was much choppier because a storm was heading in, and one of our group got tossed twice. It was funny for those of us still on the banana boat.
I would do it again in an instant. Peggie
