Baltimore BOT-Fest

Hi Bots,

Sara: Glad you were able to get outside. So sorry about the work situation, but good for you for seeing the silver lining in it.

Howard: Great job on your race. I'm sure you'll do well slimming down. You seem to have been successful at that in the past. Is that knee still behaving?

Cindy: Glad you were able to get out for a run. A few more of those and you'll feel like you're right back in it.

Matt: Hope all is well. How's the knee?

Jodi: Great job on your race. Sorry your family didn't get to see you.

Lou: Hope the allergies are better.

Mike: Great job on your race. Glad you were able to check out on time.

Jackie: Hope you've fully recovered from the race.

Dave: Hope all is well with your Dad.

Upon further review of the race results from last weekend. My PR was by just 2 seconds. I'll still take it. I received my Welcome Packet for Boston today. I've only just browsed it, but plan on sitting down soon and reading every word. I called the Dr. for my test results from the past 2 weeks. All came back normal. I guess I should be happy about that, but I still have no idea what is going on. She has a few more tests to send me for: allergy, ultrasound to check my gall bladder and a breath test for excess bacteria(?). I'm starting to think it might be all in my mind.

Have a great night everyone.
Cindy

Hi everyone! My Princess race report is finished and on my running blog in my siggie!

Me Me Me...you've been forewarned!

So I ran 3 miles Weds (beat) & 4 miles yesterday (beat-er). My leg (the one attached to the beat hip/psoas) hurt from groin to knee after about 2.5 miles. Sore/pull kind of hurt. I stopped once or twice to yell out "REALLY?" & "YOU'VE GOTTA BE EFFING (real word) KIDDING ME!!" The cows picked up their heads to grin in their bovine way.

Chiro said my "injury" has healed...now I'm just "beating myself up", so he suggested I give the running a rest. "What else do you do?", asks he. "Umm..." I answer...."eat?". So I'm gonna hit the bike more & do more stuff with the core ball/push ups, etc. & walk.

I'll try to run again in a week. Or should I say...next week.

Goodbye.

Hey BOTs! I hope you are enjoying what's left of the weekend.

Here's a little post race report...

As I said on FB, I am scratching this race off my list for life. I mean, if you guys said you all wanted to run this next year I may not even scream team this blustery course. :lmao:

Once again, I am a bit disappointed that I am starting a 2010 trend of not being able to beat my 2009 times. I am a step or two out of shape right now.

All that aside, you guys want to avoid this race at all costs. And I emphasize COST because I think I paid $50 for this 10-mile torture which is about $20 less then Broad St which is WAY better. First, I made the mistake of driving to Wildwood yesterday to pick up my bib at the "Expo", instead of picking it up today. The "Expo" was basically a closet in a back room at the convention center. There was one vendor selling running gear but I did get to learn about harbor seals and snakes in NJ at 2 state agency booths (not sure how that connected to running). Jodi, you would have liked the animal exhibits.

I parked at the 10-mile finish in Wildwood this morning and took the shuttle to the start in Cape May. That worked out okay. Rather then stand around in the 39-degree cold we at least were able to hang out in a big hotel lobby for an hour. It warmed up to the mid 40s by race time, 9AM.

Not sure what they do with the $50(10-miler) and $80(marathon) fees but the race did not even have timing chips. About 2000 runners lined up and then some guy came out with a bull horn and said "GO!". I was 2-3 people from the starting line so I was able to get out a few seconds after the start and find my groove within a 1/4 mile.

The course is fairly scenic as you run within view of the ocean for a number of miles and you also run along many miles of inter-coastal waterways. The problem is you run straight into a strong head wind which seems to blow harder the faster you try to run. You also crossed 3 bridges in the 10 miles which are short but steep and you run on metal grates that would kill you if you fell.

You have 10-mile and marathon runners mixed together so it's hard to tell if you are on or off pace because you have no idea if the runners in front or passing you are running the same race. I hung around a 7:30 mpm pace for the first 5 miles, which was the goal pace, and then I just seemed to lose it between miles 5-8. I managed to pick up the pace the last 2 miles but that dang wind seemed to hit me every time I felt like I had some life in my legs.

1:18:12 was the finish time which is 1:15 slower then last year. Get through the finish gate to find no metals this year for the 10-milers. That's fine but then what are they doing with the money because they had them last year. Food...there were some boxes of plain bagels, oranges and bananas. They did have water. Oh yeah, my checked bag was waiting on the ground by the box truck... unattended. Good thing I didn't pack anything worth taking.

I really haven't trained that hard so I can't complain too much. Next up...Penn Relays Distance Classic (20K) on 4/17.

Lou

Lou: Thanks for the report. Sorry you had a rough time. I was actually considering doing this one as it is fairly local all things considered but I think I'll pass now after your glowing report. Good luck at Penn Relays.

Cindy: Hope you enjoyed curling up reading your Boston stuff. I'm glad your test results came out ok and hope your symptoms resolve.

Jodi: Great job on your race with some really rough training. I can just picture the hotel room with snoring kids strewn about:rotfl:

Howard: Kudos on the Caesar Rodney.

Sara: Great job getting out there again. I hope you feel better soon and can really enjoy the springtime at home.

Not too much here. Been getting in the runs in prep for the Rutgers half in a few weeks. We actually went out last night to NYC to see the show Stuffed and Unstrung-- it is produced by Henson and is sort of a Who's Line type improve with puppets-- it was awesome! Brian Henson was one of the performers and they did a great job of making it a fun adult show.

Jen - As bad as I made this out to be, there were actually a lot of out of state runners on the bus for this race today. Many of these people were 50-staters who looked at the 3 NJ marathons and saw this as the best option. When you consider the other 2 marathons (Long Branch and Atlantic City), this may be the best option if 50 states is your goal. The good thing about OD is there are no loops and it's a long point to point race. If you caught a killer 50-60 degree day with winds blowing from the south this would be a great course to run a marathon.

Lou - Sorry your race was beat...but hey, at least you got out there & ran. Still wondering about the AC marathon & if that fits into my schedule this year

Jen - That show sounds like a blast. Might have to check that out sometime soon. When's your Rutgers 1/2?

Me? No running - no nothing. Going to the gym today...:rolleyes1 No really. Leg feels OK I guess. Still giving it a rest. Does walking the dog constantly count as cross training?

Mike - Thinking about your Ultra coming up :scared1: popcorn:: :grouphug:.

Bruce ran 18 miles on Sat. It was kinda rough 'cause he didn't take the gu like I told him to :confused3:sad2::headache:, but he feels good otherwise! He broke down & bought CW-X shorts & they are really helping his hamstring issues. Now he needs to by compression sleeves for his calves b/c they're tight tight tight. I know, but he didn't want the full CW-X pants 'cause he thought they'd be too hot.

What? No comment from the female peanut gallery? Alright, I'll do it...

Yes, Bruce would be HOT!!! in those bulging muscle hugging tights!

Wow, I walked into that one. Hot in the temperature sense, douche!!

Hello everyone! I have nothing major to report. I spent an hour or so tonight putting together my training plan for the next 7 weeks before the Delaware Marathon. I have some catching up to do and some LR's in my immediate future. I begin tomorrow and I hope to stay pretty close to the mileage the program recommends. I will more than likely have to shuffle some rest and run days to make it all work, but hope to get close to the total miles each week that the program recommends.

Lou~ Thanks for the Ocean Drive race report. It wasn't on my list and more than likely won't be creeping on to it any time soon. Good Luck with the Penn Relays!:dance3::cool1::thumbsup2

Jodi~ I think Mike would think Bruce looks better in them ther tights more than you do. It must be one of those Virginia thangs. :rolleyes1:sad2: Feel better and rest like the good Doc said. It's nice to have an excuse to slack off, isn't it? :confused3

This weekend Cam, Andrew and I are driving up to Manomet, MA to visit Cam's Aunt and Uncle. I hope to get a LR in while I'm up there. They live just south (towards the Cape) from Plymouth. We drive up on Thursday night and return on Sunday evening.

Happy Tuesday everyone! Looks like we'll be enjoying some warm weather this weekend.

Thank you Michael for stepping up there:thumbsup2 and yes, you did take the words right out of my mouth:rolleyes1

Howard - Have a safe trip and enjoy your time with the relatives:goodvibes Best of luck with the training program:banana:

Jodi - Am I supposed to know what you're taking about over on FB or are you just calling me outpopcorn:: I realize I'm mentally impaired currently but I have no clue:laughing:

Jen - Glad to hear you've been getting some runs in for Rutgers:cheer2:

Lou - Great race report and you should definitely feel good about that time, all things considered:yay: Hoping the allergies are staying away!

Meghan - I enjoyed your Princess race report:cool1:

CindyLou - Glad to hear your testing came back normal and hopefully you're not suffering too much these days:hug: Too exciting about the Boston packet:woohoo:

Dave - Praying for you and yours:hug: Please update us when you're able. Lots of :goodvibes:wizard:

I went to a Muscle Pump class at the Y today and hoped I didn't scare anyone with the dime-sized hole in my neck that's still healing:eek:. I don't exactly look like I should be pursing advanced physical activity at this time:confused3 so I made sure I spoke to the instructor first so she wouldn't worry that I was going to pass out in class:rotfl2: I HATE admitting that I am not Superwoman anymore :sad1:

Have a very blessed Easter everyone:grouphug:

Sara - Thanks for checking in! What do you mean you are not Superwoman? Look at all the stuff you went through. I would be telling everyone that I was healing up from a gun shot wound to freak them out. Anyway, I'm glad you are doing well and hope you have a Happy Easter!

I think I ran this race by you guys last year. There is an all day relay race along the river in Philly in July http://20in24.com/. The weather will be brutal but it would be fun to have a team of BOTs to run all day. Think about it,

I would be telling everyone that I was healing up from a gun shot wound to freak them out.
Well, here's the war wound since I like your gun shot story and could probably pass it off as such:rolleyes1
SDC10146.jpg
Not sure whether it's actually going to fill in or if I'll simply have a neck button that I can get pierced:rotfl2::confused3 Either way I am sure it will make an impact when I have to deal with my employment issues:thumbsup2 Back to the Y in the morning to potentially scare some more peoplepopcorn::

Sara - WOW! That's a gun shot and a knife wound. I'm thinking the story is someone car jacked you. You fought them off and then, because you are a runner, you managed to run 2 miles to the local police station to get help.

That is impressive. I have a 2" scar on my chest that was the result of a bad medical student that was supposed to be removing a small mole 10 yrs ago. Seriously, I went in for routine surgery to have a mole removed and left with a 2" scar. I tell people I got stabbed when they ask how I got that scar.

On the running front...I ran 4 miles tonight (9:15 mpm pace) and feel like crap. I am not sure what is wrong with me but my legs feel like lead. It's frustrating.

Lou

Wow is right! SuperSara, it will close up nicely, but I do like Lou's story!

Hello Everyone!!!!

Sara~ I think it adds character, something you'll never need more of. Best of luck with getting back to normal and back to the YMCA. I'd use said "beauty marks" to clear some equipment if I were you. :thumbsup2

Lou~ I got home and went out for the first run on my 7 week training plan. I missed the XT yesterday due to working from 7:30 AM to 7:30 PM. I was exhausted when I got home at 8 PM.

Here are the results of my efforts tonight:

Miles: 8.0
Pace: 8:51
Splits: 8:30, 8:59, 8:42, 8:57, 8:56, 9:00, 8:57, and 8:47.

My training plan calls for 5 miles tomorrow. I might need to get up early and run before work (fat chance!).

Tomorrow after work we head north. I hear there are some flooded roads up in the area we are traveling to. May need to take some precautions and/or detours to get to our destination.

All the best to you all and a Happy (Belated) Passover/and early Easter to everyone!

:grouphug:

Howard

Quick post, I was up and out of the house this morning at 6 AM and "ran" 5 miles. It wasn't pretty, but its in the books. Running on sore legs and muscles isn't fun.

Tomorrow is a rest day and I have 16 on tap for Saturday. I'll attempt to run those in MA while we're away.

Happy April! Happy Easter! Happy Spring!

:grouphug:
