Baltimore BOT-Fest

Jodi: The IT band is nothing to fool around with. I had bad problems with my IT band a few years back. I stretched, rested it, iced it, used the foam roller, and eventually I changed shoes. The combination of all of the above seemed to work, but it took 2 months or so to get over. Lots of people swear by active release therapy. My friend Rhodri had this done for his IT band problems. If the race is coming up soon, I'd try it, as there might not be enough time for it to heal by itself.

Mike: Cindy and I still plan on coming out to cheer for you on Saturday. Should we bring some of the homemade beer?

Thanks for the advice re: the IT...our chiro does active release so I'll have Bruce inquire. I'm hoping this just convinces him to do the 50k.

BTW, Mike said just send the homemade beer to me & I'll get it to him somehow. :thumbsup2

Hi Bots. Jodi came and found me on FB. Sorry I haven’t been around – lots going on. But, I have actually been running – 4 days last week! And I just caught up on the thread.

Mike – Matt and I will be there on Saturday. Will Kathy? If so, I’ll try to coordinate with her. I’m happy for you that the weather is supposed to cool down by Saturday. 50 miles in 90 degrees would suck. A lot.

Dave – I’m sorry to hear about your Dad. I hope that you are able to find a solution that works for everyone.

Sara – I agree with Lou – make up some really good story about the scar!

Jodi – So, what made you decide to get the five fingers?

Howard – Wow, you’ve really ramped the mileage back up, I’m impressed.

Colleen – Happy early birthday!

CindyLou – Can’t wait to hear about Boston – less than a week now! (Obviously, you know this).

Bill – Happy to hear about more people in for MCM!

Judy – I’m definitely going to be doing the 10K at the MCM. I don’t want to commit to another marathon until I really have the time to train.

Lou – Sorry to hear about the allergies.

Megan – I hope you enjoy running with a training partner.

Jen – Congrats on the weight loss! Nice job!

Should we bring some of the homemade beer?
Does an ultra runner poop in the woods?

Cindy - Kathy will not be able to be there Saturday. Dance competition at King's Dominion. I will miss her but I WILL BE FINE!

Do you and Matt have any sort of tentative spectating plan?

Jodi - A Chock Full 'O Nuts can!! You're killin' me!

7 miles in the books this evening. It was a tad summerish out. As Cindy said, thankfully it's supposed to be cooler Saturday. 50 miles in 90 degrees would indeed suck. A lot.

Colleen - Happy Birthday!! Why don't you give yourself a nice present by coming back and rejoining our little band of misfits. We won't even call you old, ancient, elderly, AARP eligible, antiquated, antique, archaic, experienced, hoary, long-lived, mature, Methuselah-like, old as history, old as time, olden, oldfangled, on the shelf, out-of-date, outdated, outmoded, outworn, overage, passe, past, past use, patriarchal, prehistoric, ripe, seasoned, timeworn, traditional, or wrinkly. ;)

But we'll still call you Douchebag!! At least I will. Happy Birthday, Colleen

Happy Birthday Colleen:hug: Miss you and hope you're having a wonderful day.

Mike - You'll be in my thoughts on Saturday:worship::worship:

Cindy - Congrats on the running:yay:

Jen -:cool1: Congrats on the super stellar weight loss!!

Matt - Congrats on the 8 miles:cheer2:

Howard - When are you headed to Jamaicapopcorn::?

Dave - :wizard::hug:

Chester - popcorn::

With my health status still up in the air and my recent loss of income, I am going to have to bail on MCM:sad1:. At this point I don't think it would be smart to attempt it because I have no running base and have no way of knowing how my body will respond to regular training once I get medically cleared to proceed with that. I am going to try to run the WDW 1/2 and be thankful with that progress:thumbsup2:goodvibes

Sara~ Cam and I fly to JAMAICA :beach: on Friday, April 23 and fly home on Sunday, May 2. I am really sad you won't be at MCM this year since I now know that I will be running it instead of the New York City Marathon. Yes, I wasn't selected in the lottery, my second consecutive year. :sad2: I will really enjoy having you participating at WDW in January instead of simply (and wonderfully) cheering from the sidelines with your beautiful family.

I biked 15.35 miles yesterday as part of my training plan for the Delaware Marathon on May 16. I have an 8 miler scheduled for tonight. I think I am feeling pretty good, so that's a go. It'll be a hot one though. :headache:

Colleen~ Happy Birthday!!!! I hope you are filling your day with everything that is pleasing and makes you happy. BTW, I hear that the AARP benefits are substantial; savings could result in enough disposable income to possibly enter a race or two in the next 6 months/year. :rolleyes1

Have a great day everyone! I'll be back on later to report on my little jaunt tonight.

I just signed up for the MCM. The running is going well. I ran another 8 miles on Tuesday morning and 5 miles this morning. No signs of knee pain.

Mike: I think our spectating plan is going to be something like the following:

1) wait around for you to run by
2) Go have lunch
3) Do some shopping for a few hours
4) Come back and watch you run by again
5) Go home and take a nap
6) Maybe go for a hike
7) Come back and watch you run by again.
8) Finish up some novels I've been working on like War and Peace and Ulysses
9) Head back and see you finish.
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Seriously though, I'm not sure we will make it there for the 6:30 AM start, but we should be in place to see you run by the start at the 17 mile mark. After that we'll probably hop around the trail to the other viewing spots and see if we can see you there. Are you going to have your phone on you? You could text us updates.

I will definitely be mentoring for TNT for the fall season. I'm really excited about it and hope that I get a good group of people to work with. Sitting at the mentor meeting and listening to the describe the responsibilities of mentor, I was thinking "Don't I do this every day and get paid for it?" So many of the responsibilities of the mentors are the same as the team leading work that I do, so hopefully I'll be successful at it.

I'm going to do the Philly RnR with them, the Philly half as a training run for the Disney full and go with them to cheer at MCM. We also have a team going to the Nike Women Half(?) in San Francisco. I wish I could do that, but I'm trying to get to DLR for a C2C medal. We'll see. One of my TnT teammates is going there with her sister and a lot of other friends (including WISHers) will be there, so I could do the trip alone if I wanted to since I wouldn't really be alone.

3 weeks, 4 days til Broad Street!

4 weeks, 1 day til my next WDW trip!

:rotfl::rotfl2::thumbsup2

But we'll still call you Douchebag!! At least I will. Happy Birthday, Colleen

Thank you for all the birthday wishes. Jodi, you can call me anything you like, I know the real you.:thumbsup2

Mike, good luck with the big race. Love Kathy's response to your cell phone use.:rotfl:

Howard, you must be excited about Jamaica. We are thinking about Jamaica for a Christmas vacation.

Dave, sorry to hear about your dad, I hope things straighten themselves out.

Sara, I think it is wise to hold off on MCM. I would rather see you Marathon weekend at Disney or the wine and dine half.

Matt, :rotfl:love your schedule for Mike's race.

Had a nice birthday today. Did a little shopping and then PF Changs for dinner.

Sorry to hear that no one I know got in to NYC this year :headache:!

Cindy - You asked why I went the FiveFingers route & I can honestly tell you that I don't know. Keeping with my gnarly, granola, chi-crap auroa, it just seemed like the right thing to do @ this juncture of my illustrious running career ;). I can tell you that I am cautiously optimistic with my progress. I ran 3 miles in them today & it felt....much more effortless than other recent runs have felt.
I'm sure it's all in my twisted-head, but I'm hoping to use these exclusively in the near future. :scared1:

Colleen~ I hope your special day was fun and enjoyable. PF Changs is one of my favorites... I love me some Lettuce Wraps!

Jodi~ I am impressed with your pioneering ways (ala 5 finger discount), I mean 5 finger shoes that aren't really shoes. Keep us posted on your progress.

I am stopping back to report my run:

Miles: 8.0
Time: 1:19:13
Pace: 9:54
Splits: 10:00, 10:28, 10:00, 9:43, 9:27, 9:34, 9:38 and 10:24.

It started out a bit wierd, ankle pain, etc... but as I got warmed up it waned and I felt better (as evidenced in my split times improving a wee bit). I am going to switch my next two days on the training schedule and rest tomorrow and run 5 on Friday.

A friend sent me a link to a cool magic video on YouTube. If you have a couple of minutes, you should check it out. It is in Chinese, so I can't tell what they are saying, but it really doesn't matter much. The magician is pretty impressive.

It looks like the MCM this year is THE BOT RACE!!! I can now look forward to it and train accordingly.

Have a wonderful evening!

I may only be a lurking BOT, but add me to the list of those doing MCM. Just bit the bullet and signed up. I said I wasn't doing a full this year, but somehow I hit submit anyway.

Mike - Good luck on Saturday!

Jackie

Jackie - Welcome aboard the MCM express! It's a great race and I think you will enjoy it.

Howdy everyone: My new orthotics seem to be working out nicely. I'm still doing some short, 2 mile runs while I get used to them, but I'm going to start increasing my mileage a little more next week.

Mike- can't wait to hear how the 50 miler goes.
