balloons on the plane?

We recently got home from disney. We bought our daughter a balloon in MK on our first day there. When it came time to go home I thought I remembered reading that you are not allowed bring balloons home with you on a plane.

I knew DD would be feel like she had done something "bad" if we got to the airport with it and we were told it was not allowed. I just left it behind in the room and told her that housekeeping would give it to another child.

Does anyone know if balloons are allowed on a plane? Did I leave it behind for no reason?

I am almost 100% positive that they are not. We deflate them. Most of the time we do that then when we get home DD hangs it up for a couple months then she throws it away.

Someone had one on our flight and got away with it, so I dont know... maybe you would have to call the specific airlines on this? But then again... TSA took away my sons toy Thomas the Tank Engine train because it had liquid in it :confused3 but they let us take apple sauce... plus the same train went through security 3 times before getting stopped (three times that week!) Who knows.

We were able to bring DS's home last May on SW. We just were told to put it in the overhead compartment. Now if it wouldn't fit in the overhead we would've had to leave it.

That's what we do! My older son usually walks up to the family and tells them how they need to take good care of the balloon - take it to the parks, play with it, etc. He's got quite the personality (for a 4 1/2 year old!)!

we had no clue and were forced to deflate it or trow it out on our first WDW trip (in 2000, so before post 9/11 regulations were in place)

we avoid the balloons because of this - well, except that once when our toddler wanted one....we too just left it in the room for mousekeeping to either toss or take home to one of their kids. (more than likely toss - can't imaging risking getting fired for taking home a silly balloon.)

That's basically what we did too. Another time I tried to pass along a coffee maker to another guest with little luck. I eventually passed it on to the Mousekeeping staff, who were happy to get it.

We buy a balloon on our first night there, keep it in our room & enjoy it when we come back in the evenings, & then on our last day before we leave, we let our balloon go from our balcony (we always request a top floor) & watch it fly away. It brings me to tears every time !!!!!:santa::santa::santa:

if you get the mylar ones (foil) you can insert a straw into the hole and deflate, fold it up, and have it filled again when at home.

I love the idea of passing it along to another child upon departure too!

We personally would never let it go on purpose due to the health risk to animals.

If it's a mylar balloon, you can just take the air out and put it in your checked luggage. You can take it and have more air put in at a place that has helium.

We did the same thing. My son still talks about the little boy who got his balloon. I took a picture when he handed it to him. Such a good way to pass on the magic.

We just flew home from Disney yesterday :sad2: on SW and a boy brought a balloon on the plane. It was one of those balloons in a balloon (it had a blue mickey balloon inside of a clear plastic balloon). The flight attendants made an announcement that the balloon was on the flight and may pop. I didn't see if he had to put it in the overhead or not, it was pretty big. And it did not pop.

My children were on the receiving end of a balloon when we were checking into our resort 2 yrs ago! It was completely magical! and very thoughtful! Our vacation was just off to a wonderful beginning!!!

I was in WDW in Feb and my mother bought me the blue Mickey balloon within a clear balloon. I was sad to have to leave it so my husband very carefully deflated both and we took it home!! Then, my husband took it to party city where the girl there re-inflated both balloons for $1.00!
