For those of you that have hung lights on your balconies, about how many feet of lights do you need and are extension cords needed? We are leaving in a couple of weeks and want to decorate our balcony for the first time.

I "believe" it's been reported that only OKW has an outlet outside on the balcony so, if you're staying at any other resort, you will probably want to bring an extension cord to reach into the villa - you probably don't want Christmas lights coming into the room! :)

We've decorated our balcony each year OKW for the last 5, or so, years. I can't recall the length of my lights - but I've used two strands. Maybe 100-light strands? I also bought some green garland to twist around the railing, as well - running the lights around it.

We leave for BCV after dinner on Thursday - I'm anxious to see what I can do, there.

We also bring a timer to turn the lights on and off.

Good idea Scott - that's what I need to add to my list - I always enjoy decorating the balcony at OKW - it's really nice to see how many decorate. There is an outdoor outlet at OKW but I still use an extension cord so it's easier to open both doors.

bumping ...

i would like to know also....

i will be at boardwalk and want to put lights up too!!!

Thanks everyone for the replies. Anyone have BWV experiences with Christmas lights??

I don't have any DVC experience with lights, but when I lived in a condo I put the lights up on the inside of the windows with suction cups.

I had a corner unit right on the water and wanted my place decorated when the boats when by. I was able to use my indoor sockets and didn't have to worry about getting an outdoor timer.

I just returned from VWL and brought our lights, extention cord, timer........everything needed (at least I thought we had everything) .......and guess what......we ended up on the first floor! There was no place to hang the lights. I guess if we thought about suction cups we could have put them up on the sliding glass door. Now, we are going back in 10 days but we are flying for the first time and now DH doesn't think we will be able to bring the lights, etc. on the plane. Has anyone brought lights with them when they flew in. Should I just leave the lights home or take a chance and bring them with us............Should I pack them in checked luggage or carry-on????

At VWL there were no outlets outside on our first floor. The closest outlet was about 6 or 7 feet from the back door.

We hung our lights last year at BWV 8-12 ft is what worked for us.

One of our 2 weeks we had first floor and we attached lights on the inside hallway around the door frames......it was awesome...

Great idea!! Did you use anything to keep them attached to the door frame?

I'm wondering too - how to attach to door frame?

What color of lights would you suggest hanging at the BWV? Also, how do you attach them, if you have a solid balcony?

Thanks!

I got multi-colored lights for our trip leaving this Sunday as the BWV side does a lot with primary colors. As to the solid balcony question, let's hope someone has a good answer.

I brought six boxes of lights for the balcony at OKW last year as well as a collapsible tree that had lights on it for the living room of the GV. It folds down flat to about 4 inches and then pulls up to about 6 feet with the use of it's stand. I was afraid they wouldn't let it on the plane but they never even looked in the large rolling duffel bag I finally got everything stuffed in . Had to bend the bottom ring of the tree but everything arrived just fine. It is still in the duffel just waiting until next Christmas to go somewhere else - my daughter says I can't bring it on the cruise (not Disney) that we are taking this year as she doesn't think there will be room in the cabin. Have to think of something else I guess. Will be thinking of everyone at WDW and especially those who decorate those great balconies at DVC resorts.
