I am making sugar cookies with a glaze made of powdered sugar, karo syrup, milk and almond extract. The glaze hardens after several hours.

How do I want to store these cookies?

I am making them for an event tomorrow evening, and in my mind the icing has milk in it, I would think it would spoil if not stored in the fridge, but I've purchased cookies with the same glaze (its a "copy cat" recipe) from the local grocery store back home and they were never in any type of fridge.

Right now I'm thinking I should get up extra early and glaze them so that they hopefully harden by 3pm tomorrow.

Any feedback?

The sugar actually acts as a preservative so you do not need to refridgerate them. I would not do them in the morning, that is a sure fire way to make sure you have a disaster. (Ask me how I know. :-) )

Really? I never knew that! I mean when I frost a cake, I never put it in the fridge, or when we used to go to Georgetown Cupcakes in DC we would never put the cupcakes in the fridge and those cupcakes have cream cheese frosting which I would also think would spoil but we never had problems with being sick afterwards.

I was thinking icing tomorrow would lead to disaster as well :)
