Bagless Theme Park Days- HOW???

It can be very exhilarating to try a minimalist day (as long as you don't have small children). Phone, Magic Band, small wallet and a hat is all I really need. Sometimes my phone battery runs low, but it is my own fault for using it so much while waiting in line. If it rains I go inside, get a bite or leave the park for a few hours. I use my thirst as an excuse to slow down and get an overpriced drink.

The less you carry the longer your feet will last, less physical and emotional stress from carrying things.

Ugh, I so badly want to go bagless. My kids are older now so that makes it easier.

I know my husband can carry his phone, a little EZ Dose baggie with Tylenol and Tums in it, as well as his ID and a little cash/Disney Visa cc in a small 3x4 zip baggie, in his pockets. (He needs to be able to get wet on rides and not ruin anything in his pockets.)

I could carry my phone around my neck.

But then there's:
pack of tissues
Wet Ones (can't eat popcorn with germy hands)
cell phone charger and 6" cable
small disposable poncho for me for Kali River Rapids
my compact and tinted lip balm

I don't think I can have my husband carry all that in his pockets, even if he does wear cargo shorts (but he wears the ones with flat pockets, not the puffy looking ones).

I have pockets, but I don't wear loose shorts or skirts because I like them fitted.

I have a Kipling waistpack that I love, but I wish I didn't even have to use that.

These are made for runners but I wear them a lot is the summer. It is moisture wicking material with an over skirt with shorts attached like a skort but the legs on the shorts do not ride up. There is a big pocket attached to the outside leg on each side. Also a zippered pocket at the waist.
The skirt covers the leg pockets. Very comfortable to wear in the parks.

Tissues = napkins from any counter service
Wet ones = wash hands in the bathroom
Cell phone charger = biggest issue for me, use the phone less (not easy)
Poncho = try going without just don't wear a white shirt
Compact & lip balm = my 18 year old daughter get's ready for the day, then she just forgets about any makeup touch-ups

I have several pair of "camping" shorts from REI or Bass Pro Shop. They have at least two nice deep pockets and one zipper pocket. The zipper pocket holds my AP, drivers license, Disney Visa, $20 bill. The deep pockets hold my phone (with zip lock bag) and an external charger. If I need anything else it is available in the park. I wear my sunglasses and hat. Sun screen is applied before we leave the resort. I truly love going without a bag!

I've looked at them a couple of times but they are very expensive and I just can't see spending a couple of hundred dollars for something I'm only going to wear once or twice a year. I did just order something similar from Amazon, lets hope the pockets are big enough. I don't think the ones I ordered had the zippered pocket in the back but I got two for $42 which is less than 1 sparkle skirt.

I want to go bagless so bad, but I have too much stuff I have to take.
1. My sunscreen, for body and for face- I can't go without reapplying several times. I can't get too much sun. Even with the hat I take, I have to at least reapply to my face and arms throughout the day.
2. My lip balm
3. Sunglasses- I always loose them if I put them on my head. I have to have a place to put them.
4. Eye Drops
5. Some cash- just in case.
6. Pennies and quarters for the penny press machines
7. My phone and my morphie (although I think I am going to do fuel rods this time)
8. My medication. I only have two meds I have to take but if I get stuck in the park and don't go back to my room before dinner, I have to have them with me.

I really tried on my last trip, but not only did we end up taking all this stuff for me, we had a ton of stuff for a teenage girl. This time I am going solo. I just don't know how to condense these items. And don't even get me started on bags. i buy a new one before every trip I take (not only Disney trips) and they are always either way too big and heavy to begin with or way too small and heavy to begin with.

There was another thread about this a while back... Someone mentioned that if you don't go through bag check you have to go through the metal detector and you end up emptying your pockets anyway, and it's time consuming. ???

But I'd still have to carry the napkins. I like to have tissues handy for my kids, in line, etc. Maybe I won't need a full pack each day. Or I'll make them each carry a few in their own pockets in one of our small zip baggies.

I really don't want to have to run to a bathroom to wash our hands every time one of us wants a snack. Or touches something "questionable" on a rail, or ride, etc. LOL. I'm kind of a germaphobe. After touching the food tray, etc we wipe our hands RIGHT before eating.

I think I can get my husband to carry the charger (in zip baggie of course)

I don't consider my compact and lip balm as makeup. The compact is for "shine" and the lip balm is for sunscreen. The tint is a bonus. I think I can carry the lip balm in my pocket.

It really seems to be my compact that is holding me back. :sad2:

Thanks for your reply. It's helping me think it through. :)

I have a different way of going bagless. I wear a photographer's vest. I use a cane, and I have found that not having to wrestle a bag makes things much easier. I have to warn, though, that I do have to go through the bag check because of the big zip pockets.

That actually does not seem to be the only criteria for going through the metal detectors today. I've witnessed people come out of bag check and be selected for the metal detectors also.

Love going bagless. I have a runners belt I wear under my shirt and no one even knows it's there. Guys wear cargo pockets. Wallet, phone and epi-pen and magic bands and we are set.

Only other thing that I have to have with me is a small emery board. It drives me crazy to have a ragged nail.

I used to carry my water on a strap that Disney sold in each park. I now have to use an ECV so my packing strategy has changed. The hardest thing for me to change is that I now can carry lots of stuff as I have to go thru bag check. I'm still used to planning how to carry the bare minimum.

That didn't happen to us in June. The days I didn't have a bag, we just walked past a security guy. BUT you can get waved over to the metal detector from either there or the bag check line.

I know thing can change (on a daily basis no less), but when we were at Disney last June, security would "randomly" select people from both the bag check and no bags areas to go through the metal detectors. I've also heard that there are rare days where everyone has to go through the metal detectors. The times we had to go through the metal detector after coming through the no bag line we only had to take out the metal things in our pockets -- phones, chargers, etc. I know people say that the security guards tell you to take everything out of your pockets, but I think that varies by day/person/park. I've never removed things like tissues, lip gloss, or a rain poncho.

I've gone bagless my last few times. I am a woman in her 40s, and the last few times I've had two older kids with me (ages 10 +).

The biggest issue was what to do with my phone. I have some "travel clothes" with pockets large enough to hold the phone, a few cards (credit card, annual pass for discounts, ID) and a few bills of cash. That's all I brought.

Magic band, cell phone with a wallet case to hold debit/credit card, license and cash. If i don't have it, buy it.

I had young kids and a stroller for a long time. Then, when we got rid of the stroller, we had Mom in a wheelchair. I always had somewhere to hang my stuff and always had a drink holder. The bag check line didn't bother me so it wasn't an issue.

Now, I have no stroller and no wheelchair and I refuse to carry a bunch of stuff.

I carry my cell phone and a ziplock bag in my pocket and my ID, AP discount card, a few dollars and a CC in my lanyard pouch. I have a metal water bottle that keeps ice all day. I wear that across my body on a luggage strap. The bagless line is a bonus. The real advantage is not being weighed down.

I never been the kind of person that needed to carry a bookbag into a theme park. Most of the stuff I bring with me into a park is stuff I can easily put into my pocket which is mostly just my cell phone and wallet.
