My cruise documents arrived today and I'm a little confused about how my checked baggage gets from the Orlando airport to the ship.

The documents say that if I put the Disney Cruise luggage tags on my bags, I don't have to pick them up at baggage claim. But I thought that was only on certain air carriers as part of a special program. I'm flying Southwest Airlines and they don't participate in that.

Don't I have to go get my things from Baggage claim and bring them with me to the Shuttle?

The "SouthWest not participating" thing is only for when you are departing the ship to airport. Yes, you put the baggage tags on before you check your bags at your home airport, and DCL will pick up the bags before they get to the baggage claim area and transport them directly to the ship.

I'm assuming you are flying in the day of your cruise? DCL will only pick up luggage from MCO on the day of your cruise.

Thanks, yes.

Since I have a short, direct flight and two later flights I can try to get on if mine is canceled, I opted to fly in on the day of embarkation.

I did realize I have another glitch though. It looks like I'll have to visit baggage claim after all. I can't put two bottles of wine in my carry-on for the plane but I have to put it in my carry-on for the ship. So I will check that bag but I won't put a Disney luggage tag on it. Then I'll go claim it in Orlando and roll it to the shuttle and pull it onto the ship with me. My big suitcase though, whew! I'll be grateful to tag it with the Disney cruise luggage tag and let it materialize in my stateroom later.
