I tend to go small and light, so I got this for travel (using it daily now to ensure I like it) in small:

In the zip pocket close to the body (which they don't show) I put in my wallet (but it is a very small wallet). When I'm at
Disneyland I plan to only bring the bare minimum I need in a small wallet. I don't think I'll be using my DSW discount card, for example, but I'll want to keep my pass secure.
The main zipper pocket fits my large phone along with small snacks (a few granola bars), sunblock (in a ziploc), and a few other things; I have put my Kindle and phone and snacks there too, but the Kindle is a squeeze -you kind of have to put it behind the zipper (at least in the small one ... like they show the ipad in the bigger one in the pictures). I can put my sunglasses in the main area, but usually don't. There is a pocket inside the main compartment, which I am figuring out the best use for. You'd think it would be good for the phone to keep it a bit shielded from the other stuff you put in there, but it makes it a bit harder to get out quickly, so right now I use it to keep things like granola bars away from my phone.
In the outer open/clasp pocket, I put in this water bottle
http://amzn.com/B004ULPCJ4 (the 12oz size) and I run the clasp through the plastic handle (note, this bottle can also fit in the zipper part if I prefer, but it seems a bit uncomfortable). I also use the clasp thing to thread my hat on if needed, and this pocket is usually where I put my sunglasses. I know reviews say when you sling it around your glasses fall out, but I must not be much of a slinger because I haven't encountered that problem (yet).
And the small outer pocket I use for keys, change, lipbalm, gum.
It's not padded, but as I try to keep it light it works for me, and as you see it's pretty easy to slip to the front. It won't hold a sweater, a poncho, flip-flops, etc., but for a small bag that's pretty much out of my way as I run around the park solo, I'm hoping it works.
