Bag check guard opened wallet

it is not so much him looking in my wallet. If he had asked I would have gladly opened it for him. It is the fact that my cash and cards were in there. The supervisors argument is we have top open everything with a zipper. In the attached photo all were in my bag and he only chose to open the wallet.
well in all honesty you are asked ahead of time to open all zippers so you should know if you dont do it they will do it for you, there is no reason a grown person shouldn't know the rules and then complain when you didnt open all zippers and they do it for you. Its probably much faster to just grab it and open it himself instead of having to tell you and wait for you to do it. Thing such as razorblades and pocket knives could easily be hidden in there so in my eyes it is reasonable for him to have opened if you didnt do it aheas of time as you should have.

Why let it spoil your vacation? It's over and done. You know what to do when going through security the rest of vacation. If it were me I'd be enjoying my trip instead of coming back here to post and argue the point. If it bothers you so much go ask to talk to someone on charge and ask if it is appropriate for guard to do it.

From previous thread you also had issues with wait on ME, being fourth drop off hotel and being given wrong directions to room. Try to enjoy the rest of your trip!

The thing I dread most about my upcoming WDW trip is security, and it's a shame we have to dread anything at all. However, with the criminals that prey on people, the world/Disney has decided to be extra careful. However, in protecting us one way, I feel violated in other ways.

No flames here but I see this as a complete non-issue. They do not need to ask permission to open any bag (regardless of size) before entering the park. Doesn't matter that they did open this one but not that one - that's their decision.

This is why I think that if the guard unzipped the wallet he was within reason. I have all bags opened and ready to inspect. I see no reason to keep one closed so that both the guard and I have an awkward encounter.

WE know the drill, if we choose to ignore it we need to deal with the consequences.

I don't know if the OP forgot to unzip the zipper, if OP didn't think they needed to open the zipper or left it zipped on purpose
Was the CM within reason to unzip the wallet, yes
Should he/she have asked first: yes (even though all bags are subject to search, he should have asked the owner to unzip it, which is usually what happens)
Could the CM have been tired of asking, going through the motions of bag check and just didn't think it was important to ask: probably.

I don't use purses and very rarely do I take a backpack to the parks. I actually use a regular "man's" wallet. I take the single key of the car and put it inside the zipper inside the wallet that is meant to hold spare change. I have never, been asked to open that zipper, or have security ever touched the wallet when I go through the metal detectors. (since I don't have the bag I can bypass the bag check) If they felt it, I'm sure they would ask me to open it. And that's the problem I have with the current "security" checks at Disney.

I still don't get what the problem is you hand your cards out to people all the time and you were right there watching everything he was doing. I have my purse searched and once I didn't open the pocket because there was nothing in there. Security didn't ask if I would open he just open it. Only one time I have carried my big wallet with me and they checked every fold and open the change pocket. I didn't open it because I didn't wanted change falling eveywhere. I had no problem with it. I understand when I go in line that they can open and search everything in that bag. Seriously would it have been much different for you to pull that zipper than security? You are really complaining about pulling a zipper since you are saying you are ok with him checking the wallet.

100% agree that if they want to see in a wallet they should ask the guest to open it.

Frankly Disney should want that as well. It won't be too long before someone claims they have cash or credit card missing. There's zero reason for the guards to open the item themselves.

Why would you ask someone to open it if their checking for possible razor blades or contraband - they don't want your money

Why should they have to ask if all bags and zippered items are subject to inspection. This isn't a right to go to Disney your going through their security so you play by their rules.

It's a matter of courtesy, in my opinion. They don't NEED to ask but they SHOULD have asked. I have gone to the parks a lot and I always hear them asking people to open and unzip things, I've never seen them do that without asking, which is why I think this particular CM was done for the day, zoned out, going through the motions.
I'm not saying it's flat out wrong it's just a courtesy thing, one of the keys to the kingdom

Talk about a thankless job. Danged if they do, danged if they don't. Thoroughly check bag, unzipping without verbal permission to do so--danged. Let those with stuffed cargo pants pockets through without sending them through the metal detector--danged.

My personal thoughts on the security. Better than nothing, but could definitely be improved. For example, automatically send all those without bags through the metal detector which would definitely lessen the chances of sneaking something through security via stuffed pockets. Maybe even send EVERYONE through the metal detectors, which would at the very least put everyone through the same level of security. But whatever Disney does concerning security, some people will never be pleased as it is either too much or too little. Danged if they do, danged if they don't.

I've actually had it happen to me when I forgot to unzipper something. No big deal. I figured it was my mistake and he was just doing his job. In fact, I apologized to him for making him have to take that extra step. From the look on his face, I'm pretty sure he was shocked by my apology. :)

I don't think they have to be courteous, they are security. They need to check guests belongings and get them through the gate in a timely manner. Sometimes that means forget the niceties and just get the job done.
No need to sacrifice being courteous just because you're working security. It probably saved all of 5 seconds

I take a little zippered wallet/purse thing that is about 5 inches by 3 inches and can be suspended on my belt loops. I always take it off and unzip it. If I should have a larger bag that has my wallet in it I open it as well, but I do not use the zippered clutch things. Truth is to me, those look like little purses, and I bet that is how the guard saw it. I would not have been at all upset, and just figured the issue was mine for not unzipping the wallet.

My favourite park purse has five zippers on the outside. Occasionally, I miss unzipping one of the zippers. If I miss unzipping one, security always does it. They have never asked me to unzip it at that point, because it is my responsibility to be ready for them.

OP, since all bags are subject to inspection and Disney does not need your permission to open bags, would it have been better if the security guard said "I am going to open this"? Then at least you would have had a heads up.

Personally, I do not even carry a wallet that large at home; my small wallet contains what I need for that day. When I travel, I use a small credit card holder for my ID, insurance card, credit card, cash, and whatever other cards I might need.
