Mexico City is not only one of the largest cities in the world, but unfortunately it's also one of the most polluted cities in the world. Even though it's about 7500 feet high, it's actually situated in a valley, and surrounded by mountains. This doesn't allow all of the pollution that accumulates to go anywhere (unless some really strong winds come in and blow it all away, which happens once in a while).
Today is a bad pollution day here. We actually live in the northern part of the city, so we don't have as much pollution as does the southern part (where what wind we do get usually blows it). Take a look at just how bad the pollution can get here:

This is what it looks like from my window on a pretty good (low pollution day):

The problem is that there really isn't a whole lot that they can do about it. They've tried many different ideas (some seem to work better than others), but when you are dealing with so many people living so close together with no real way of letting the pollution get out, you can see just how bad it can get.

This isn't a griping / complaining post, I just thought you might find it interesting to see just how bad pollution can get.

Wow, it makes me feel sick just looking at it. The most polluted place I've been is Washington D.C., and what I experienced there doesn't compare to that picture. On the bright side, it looks like a lovely view on a clear day!
