Wow. What a coincidence that 2 people would be arrested with such strikingly similar stories on such a obscure thing.

OP...all I can say is

How crazy is this? Like another said, we have criminals out on the streets getting by with way more than a lost library book.

You know I would be pretty flaming mad if I went back to that library and that book was there. I think I probably might get arrested again.

yeah after i read her story I felt bad for her too I mean hers was only 13 something mine was 30.85 i would have paid the darn thing if i had known i had too! if dd is telling the truth and they have the darn book or that she worked something out with them then why arrested me? i will be so dang mad gggrrrr.

You've asked on how to use this as a teaching lesson for your kid and the overdue book.

IF they book was indeed overdue, that is one thing. I'd confine the kid for the same amount of time you were jailed and make sure it hits home how scary it is to be jailed. The "not" knowing parts are the scariest.

IF the book was turned back in and they claimed it wasn't, THAT'S a different thing. I'm make sure the kid is aware of every step you take to clear your name, so to speak.

Regardless, I think this is insanely excessive and your child needs to be taught that as well. Is there a councilperson or sheriff you can complain to? You can include your child in the research, too.

I don't know does it happen that fast? I thought tomorrow right? I don't know my friend says they have a mag. here that is called jail bird and I'll be in that i don't want to be

While I agree that restitution must be paid, it cost waaay more than the price of the book to arrest you, book you, etc. This was a case of a municipality with too much time on their hands. We've got real crime where I live - I doubt that anyone would be arrested for an overdue library book.

While we haven't had a note like it in awhile....we have been threatened with jail time for overdue books...in a large suburban area. I think it's ridiculous, but it happens.

yes it was scary they searched me and took my shoes and everything booked me figure printed me and the other people that were WOW they were scary then i was hit on by this nasty guy

I told him in no uncertain terms I am married!!! lol

Wouldn't the book be checked out in your daughters name and not yours? And what's a routine traffic stop? The cops just stop you for now reason? How odd.

OP, that is shocking.

Like someone else mentioned, there are murderers and rapists running around and the Police Department decides to go after the holder of an overdue library book!? That's so crazy to me!

This is just crazy. I left colorado with a book fine. I hope they don't track me down and catch up with me in IL. I just may have to take a trip back there and pay that fine.
