Bad news: Liberty Tree Tavern's new kid menu...

I think it's an awesome menu! Kids' food doesn't need to be dumbed-down. They certainly aren't going to starve at WDW and it would be awesome for them to try/eat some new, healthier fare.

Well, we actually changed our reservation to LTT after I showed my seven-year-old son the new menu. He's very health conscious and a vegetarian (by his choice), and there were a couple of things on the menu that he got very excited about. To him, this was very much "vacation" food.

I agree, though, that the menu should be balanced so that less flexible kids have choices as well. But I'd hate to see the healthy alternatives disappear in favor of what can be had pretty much everywhere else.

I think that the kids' menu looks great. DD8 would eat--and enjoy--any of those choices. I think WDW desperately needs some healthier meal choices for kids. Sometimes it's hard just to find a vegetable--or one that's not carrots!

That being said, I agree with many posters that leaving one or two of the more traditional kids' meal sort of choices would probably help make everyone happy. Certainly we know kids who seem to exist on chicken fingers, hot dogs and fries. I don't know, maybe the thinking is that with the junk food choices available, they would be setting up menu battles between parents and kids at LTT? Either way, I'm putting LTT on our lunch list for our next trip!

My kids have a lot of food allergies, and that's one reason we often vacation at Disney. We know that the hot dogs are all beef and the burgers are ok. The chefs can usually make some fries in a separate pan. Most restaurants offer one or the other of these options, so DH and I order regular stuff and my kids stick by the old dependables.

My kids couldn't eat from the new menu, and I would be worried about cross-contamination from the tofu and hummus for their soy and legume allergies (unless they are self-contained like the peanut butter sandwiches). Maybe they could just eat the roast beef from the adult menu; it depends on what additives are used. Just another opinion on why this could be an issue for some families.

Really? I just went back and looked again, and they'd also love the beef and macaroni with marinara...........very similar to a dish I make at home......and in the right mood would like the dip it. They wouldn't eat the chicken salad on it, but would like the fruits and veggies.

In fact, I'd likely either order them both the fish, or one beef and macaroni and one dip it so they could share both.

There are so many choices for restaurants, and this wouldn't apply to the character dinner-- just lunch. So, if you have kids who would like this food, or you would like them to try something different, or healthier, then this is a good choice. If the kids wouldn't like it, then why not just pick one of the hundreds of other restaurant choices?? It's only one restaurant.

I agree! :thumbsup2 It's nice to see something really different for kid's meals...I know our DD gets tired of the usual burgers, etc. pretty quick. We eat very healthy at home, and though "vacation" food can be a nice treat, it can get tiresome. I do think it would have been nice to keep one of the old stand-by's on the menu. But that said, surely there's something a kid can eat in LTT even if they cringe at the new menu?

Love to have another different choice! :)

It is nice to see a place that offers healthy food! If you don't think your kids will like it, go to one of the other tons of restaurants.

I wonder if they will let me get the kids meal, it sounds delish! ;)

I agree with the positive thinkers :)
First, it's only one restaurant - while yes, it's some Guests' favorite dining spot, things change. And second, yes, I want to be able to order from the kids menu at LTT, too!

I would love to order off this menu...and I know DS (if he fell in this age group) would have loved everything other than the tofu. If I had an unadventrous eater I'd just have them order what sounded the least novel and if they were hungry after lunch I'd get them a hot dog or something. Lots of times our kids surprise us.

I had just noticed the menu, too! No kids, but we're all vegetarians and I'm always curious what's on the kids' menu. I have to say, when I saw the menu, I wondered if I could order off the kids' menu...it looks delicious to me! Vacation is a great time to try something different...tofu! YUM!
My thoughts exactly. :teeth:

I have to say that I think it is a step in the right direction. My children just do not eat junk food and in the past at WDW could not find anything healthy to eat. They have never eaten junk food and have never wanted to go to fast food restaurants. I do believe that it should have a few less healthy options like some have said.
A move in the right direction! :thumbsup2

Sounds yummy to me, but my DD4 wouldn't touch any of that. Looks like we'll be cancelling or ADR for LTT. :(

We are going to LTT in March, and I'm happy about this new children's menu. The Dip It will be a nice choice for our DD, age 3, who doesn't eat hamburgers (I have no idea why), but loves cut up fruit and yogurt. Contrary to claims made up-thread, I think MOST kids eat fruit and yogurt. (There are entire yogurt lines aimed at kids, and presumably this would not be true if kids didn't eat yogurt in large quantities.) So while I'm sure my DD won't eat everything on the Dip It plate, but I know she will eat some of it.

Believe me, the last thing I'm worried about is her being deprived of opportunities to eat nuggets and fries at Disney. They seem pretty ubiquitous! Bravo to Disney for trying something different at this restaurant.

I just realized that the menu was different. My DD5 does eat well, but not anything on that list. The closest thing would be the dippin thing, but she does not eat chicken salad. She loves raw veggies and fruit, but no dips for her. They should offer a grilled chicken with veggies. :smooth:
