Bad gifts - tell all!

Dave,

Why don't you put away the cordial set in case you change your mind and ever want to use it. The chess set might be nice for some guests to play. I feel the same way about chess but we have guests over that just love to play. Just a thought.:D

We have also had the inconsiderate aunts/uncles that have accepted gifts but given our kids none. This year I would not buy for them or their kids and you guessed it, my kids got gifts! Go figure! So inconsistent and crazy.

My girlfriend always would get the "best gifts" from her inlaws. One year she got a "shirt" with one of the sleeves sewn closed. Another year a candle that had been in their bathroom, half burned and with a layer of dust on it. We just all laugh.:p

christmas was "yeek" at my house this year, my parents JUST moved, and I am also moving(yesterday). so for us it was NOT a typical christmas.

BUT I got food, food and more food. WHICH is not the best thing when you have been dieting for a YEAR!! Godiva chocolates, banana bread....then the all takes all, my boyfriend gave me..
drum roll please...a GIFT CERT. to a resturant I have never been to!!!(hence- the "more" food thing) oh well that is just fine..steve and I are going on a trip cross country that will make up for that!!

as for the guy gift thing?? I wanted a circular saw!::yes::

or a years worth of meridia!!

Gee, Dax, I got 2 boxes of Jello from my MIL. I usually only get one. I'll trade ya one box of cherry for a box of your oatmeal.

BTW, my kids each got a box of poptarts, a micro bowl of ravioli, and their very own box of mystery flavor jello. Needless to say they were as impressed as I was! My 8 year old left the room and cried.

Oh well.

BTW, on the SIL/BIL's not buying gifts. I'm in that category. I figured out years ago that no matter the price or thought that went into the gift, the kids didnt like or want what I had to offer so after about 10 tries, I gave up. I had even given gift certificates to Walmart and the SIL's were critical that I hadn't "picked out something personally." This was before we had kids and any gift the SIL's would get me would be something along the line of their mom's gifts...maybe another box of jello, or kleenex or even the wonderful single wooden spoon. SO...do I get them gifts. No. Not anymore. I do announce to my hubby around Dec 1st every year that I am not planning to shop for his sisters and their kids, and if he would like for them to receive something, I will wrap and ship whatever he buys. So far he hasn't found the time to shop.

About these people who give jello and oatmeal and Rice Crispie treats - would they be upset if you gave them the same kind of gift?

Ummm, I 'll take the big bottle of margarita mix!!!:teeth: :teeth:

My mom's BF gave me a package of health shakes and 'bars' that he said would be good for my colon. I thanked him for being concerned about my health.

Heh. I don't mind that so much :hyper: Just remind me to drink some before the next time we see them. They don't usually give 'couples' gifts, but individual gifts to me and DH, so I guess that was the surprising part.

Well, I have the SIL who tells my other SIL(her sister) that she found sweaters for her kids buy 1/get 1 free. Then the first SIL has the nerve to ask the 2nd SIL and I if we want to split the cost of a $100 globe for her 6 year old "gifted" child! Didn't matter to me, as I have no kids, but the 2nd SIL(whose kids were getting the buy 1/get 1 sweaters)wasn't real happy.

The first SIL "keeps score" as far as who buys what and who spends what etc. She and the 2nd SIL had a huge fight a few motnhs ago over the kids selling wrapping papaer...first SIL claimed that 2nd SIL didn't buy as much from her kid as she had bought over the years.

I have come up with a wonderful idea for folks who don't appreciate getting gifts...make a donation to a favorite charity in their honor, and send them a little notice that says so. There's not a negative thing they can say that won't make them look like an ingrate.

My MIL always give us something tacky, but, we have not seen them yet. My DH and the kids are going to MI on Monday to see them. He will take them our gift and will get ours when he is there.

Should be interesting to see what they bring back!!
