Bad Experience

I had a two bedroom overlooking the garbage cans - it is called luck of the draw.
I actually liked it - in fact I am going to INSIST on the same view next year!

Luck of the draw? Broken doors and shower? That's acceptable to who?

Views, room type, floor of room, locaton of room are all luck of the draw. If I end up with a smoking HA room at the end of a long hall with the worst view imaginable (my specialty) then oh well.

If you have broken equipment or issues with the room you call down to Mousekeeping and ask that they be addressed. If they are not addressed then you go up the food chain.

But if you do not complain when it happens it cannot be addressed.

On my birthday that celebrated one of the decades my husband took me to Runth's Chris. We were sat amongst large holiday parties and had a very unhappy meal. After our server took our order he was never seen again. The server at one of the other tables actually did our refills.

I did not get my pre-ordered birthday cake. It was an awful experience at a restraunt we always get exemplary service.

What I did is pay the bill then talked to a manager and explained my dissatisfaction. He offered to comp the meal and we declined - we ate the food but wanted them to understand that whoever seated us at the same time as large parties should be corrected.

It did not ruin my birthday (although the cake would have been nice) and hopefully they will not have that happen again. What would have been wrong is to say nothing at the time then complain after the fact.

Please let me be the next one to stay in the room with the poop on the door frame!!! Is there some sort of room lottery that I should enter in order to be granted this privilege?

I won that lottery, and let me tell you, it was nothing to be excited about!:lmao:

If I win it again, I hope it is transferable.

Good answer Slakk! You're my kind of neighbor.

I spent probably 3 hours over four days on the phone with managers etc to correct these problems. Plus had maintenence in my room several times. I did all the things everyone suggest here. It ruined my vacation. It was a college graduation trip for my daughter, we flew from NY and I did not appreciate wasting my time correcting their shortcomings..They knew they were wrong and restored half of my points. That is nice but we can't use them till late August, my daughter and her husband can't go again this year and they never even apologized! Then people on this board seem to think Disney is God and no matter how bad they treat their shareholders it's too bad. I seriously enjoyed our stay better at POFQ and got free dining too!

You really spent 3 hours on the phone?? I think there's a good bit of exaggeration here...

After the second phone call, if a second one was necessary, a trip was certainly in order to the front desk to see the manager, in my opinion.

How is DVC responsible for your daughter and son in law not apologizing?

restored half of my points.

Well it seems that getting your rooms for half price (pts in this case) wasn't enough, just what are you after? do you want them to send you some sort of cash reward?

Serioulsy, how much $ wouldit take for you to be happy?

50?

100?

500?

would 1000 be enough?

what is fair?

I don't know that I would call your room horrendous. It seems you had two problems.

1) Handicap Room. Well, those rooms are included by law in the timeshare. If it was the only room of that size left available, there was little BWV could do. As far as the sponge mop, a call to housekeeping should have solved the problem with a replacement.

2) Inadequate cleaning by housekeeping. This is a case where you should have made your complaint known immediately to the housekeeping supervisor and requested that the unit be recleaned. While certainly no one should heck into an improperly cleaned room, complaining later will not do nearly as much good as addressing the situation then and there. All DVC or Disney can do after the fact is basically say "thank you for brining it to our attention."

Since this is, in effect, a room /trip report I am moving it to the Mousecellaneous board.

I totally agree.

(like poop on a doorway or a used condom stuck on the underside of the bed comforter (had nightmares for months after finding that one)

Ok - we have never been to DVC before and we are staying at BWV this summer. While I know that sometimes we have had a few minor cleanliness issues with hotel rooms in our past, we have never had such disgusting situations as these. And TWO different people said they had poop smeared somewhere in their rooms. Please, please, please tell me these kinds of problems are extremely rare with DVC. This whole post sort of scared me for what we will find.

Reassurance please. . .

I had two, one bedrooms booked, one for me and one for my married daughter, not an owner. Her room was perfect. I previously was given the only studio in the VWL, my home resort, without a balcony though booked at 11 months out at 9 AM. I find the DVC owners are given the shaft. I think they know we already own so there is nothing to sell. They were not helpful at all. If they are going to allow the DVC rooms to go downhill the value will be lost. I no longer wish to pay dues for that kind of treatment. I spent nearly $20,000 on this membership and I expect a deluxe room, clean and with working parts!

Yikes, Ariel....you have a grown, married dd???!!!! I thought you were a "sweet young thing"....:faint:

I remember you posting about your room at VWL. Believe it or not, my mom also got that studio on her FIRST EVER stay at VWL (she had just bought points there). What made it even worse was that she had arrived the day before and stayed at the All-Stars to be able to check in really early the next day. They checked in by 8:30AM and were given the number to call to get their room number later in the day....then, they went to the MK. They returned to the room around 4pm, got to the room only to discover that, not only did they not have a balcony, but the windows would not even open. When they called the desk to request another room, they were told nothing was available. That is the one and only time she has ever stayed at VWL....she says she will NEVER stay there again. :confused3

On another note, we just returned from BCV. Although we had requested a non HA room, we were assigned one anyway. However, ours was a little different....it was a standard HA room in everyway except we had a tub. :confused3 We didn't really care for not having a closet, and we missed our counter space in the kitchenette and bath, but we adapted. I remember reading that someone had posted to take your coffee table and put it by the sink for extra counter space...that worked REALLY well. To each his/her own, but I certainly wouldn't "mind" taking an HA room with a tub again....it really wasn't that bad.

We stayed in a 2 Bdr. 1st week of Dec. at OKW and everything was fine. I did notice a few worn items but nothing that would wreck my vacation. Missing remote caused me to call and we got a remote a couple of hours later. If your expectations are for perfection then you'll always find something wrong but for me, as long the place is reasonable clean I can live with the small stuff. If it's dirty I'll make the 1-2 minute call and then go out to eat and hope everything is up to standards when I get back.

No exaggeration at all.

I am not the OP, sorry. My situation is done. We were discussing bad experiences. I relayed mine. Period. What would have made me happy was to have been given a room that was inhabitable, mine was not.

OP,
What was the room number? Sounds much like the not-in-very-good-shape HA smoking room we had in Oct (and I reported while there). If that is the case, then a problem is NOT being dealt with and a letter to management is certainly in order.

Yikes, yes and two grandchildren, but still a sweet young thing..in spite of some people who wish to fight if you have a problem with your room..
When I checked into the studio at VWL the stuffiness hit us immediately. It was when I couldn't open the window that I called downstairs, it was early and they did switch us and I was soooooooooooooooooo happy...:dance3: :dance3: :dance3: :dance3: happy happy happy:angel:

DVC rebated half of your points and bought you lunch, right?

That seems like an equitable resolution... Damp carpet, balcony door latch...

The HC shower issue is likely because people don't aim the flow of water away from the shower curtain.

Your grievances don't add up to uninhabitable. But comping half of your stay and lunch sounds more than reasonable.

It wasn't the latch. The doors opened on their own. Probably why maintenance made many visits just to try to correct that. Lucky the roaches that were in Keishas room didn't come in mine.

Shower issue was because the water wasn't aimed away from the curtain? :rotfl: Yeah, that's why they changed the shower head and raised the floor...I didn't know you were there and know everything about it. :rotfl2:

Fortunately for DVC this has never happen to us in our 10 years as members. We pay an annual fee and expect the rooms to be in perfect condition. What gives Disney the right to provide sub standard accommodations and expect us to lie down and accept it? I can assure you if this happens to us not only will I complain but I will sit on the lobby counter and not move until the problem is corrected. Additionally I would expect a full refund for my time and inconvenience. This is the only way Disney will get the message and provided accommodations that are perfect, nothing less

When a room's cleanliness is not up to par, or something is not in working order, you certainly DO have the right to complain about it AND/OR expect it to be corrected. That being said, I think it is unreasonable to expect a points refund or any other conpensation if the problem wasn't enough of a problem to address WHILE YOU WERE THERE. It would be a bit like ordering a meal in a restaurant, having it not to your liking, but consuming the meal completely BEFORE you mentioned it to the wait person. It was good enough to consume, but now you want your money back.

The mistake in housekeeping was the responsibility of the resort and the housekeeping staff, but when you blindly accept that lack of service by not bringing it to their attention at the time, it becomes your responsibility. I don't think any compensation would be due now. I would certainly have expected a FREE full re-cleaning and an inspection by housekeeping at the very least while I was there though.

Now that sounds like something my wife would say!
