Bad Experience

(like poop on a doorway or a used condom stuck on the underside of the bed comforter (had nightmares for months after finding that one)

Ok - we have never been to DVC before and we are staying at BWV this summer. While I know that sometimes we have had a few minor cleanliness issues with hotel rooms in our past, we have never had such disgusting situations as these. And TWO different people said they had poop smeared somewhere in their rooms. Please, please, please tell me these kinds of problems are extremely rare with DVC. This whole post sort of scared me for what we will find.

Reassurance please. . .

Ellen
They are rare but they do happen. Some of us think things have gone downhill at DVC and at Disney in general, others don't. If it gets to a certain point I will likely sell everything I own but for now I think the positives outweigh the negatives. However I still plan on downsizing but for entirely different reasons.

IMO with these type issues it's now so much what they do but how they do it. If the room is unacceptable they come up and clean it and make it right and apologize, I'm happy and expect nothing. They give me an attitude and it takes 3 days, there's almost no way they will make me happy.

Last time we were there it took 3 days working on the whirlpool and then they still couldn't fix it. They changed our room and gave us a $100 credit. We didn't ask for compensation only results but were happy with the gesture. I don't doubt I could have gotten points rebated if we had made an issue of it but it wasn't necessary. However, any of the guys out there ever deal with a wife on vacation without a working whirlpool, it isn't a pretty site. it's like it's my fault or something.

I completely understand wanting and expecting a clean room. I do too.

What I don't understand at all, is why did you not complain while there?:confused3

Let the housekeeping super look at the mess in person and have it dealt with then and there. Any compensation they might offer should be there, not after the fact. Now you have lost your credibility in that you can't prove the problem.

And yes your word should be enough but considering how many people wait until they get home from Disney and invent problems you are going to be lumped into that category whether you deserve it or not.

Very rarely in the many times we have been to Disney have we had issues severe enough to complain about. However when we did, we called immediately and everything was resolved completely to our satisfaction. In fact they went beyond what I expected.

Disney is thousands short of manpower and housekeeping is a major area of concern. Some things are simply going to get over looked. No excuse, just a reason for the problem. I agree with Dean in that if the problems begin to override my enjoyment, I am outta there. Until then I will deal with them and deal with them while there.

Acknowledgement from DVC that the room was dirty and anything they would like to offer up as restitution even if it is just an apology

jumping back in kind of late - but how can they acknowledge the room was dirty if they never saw it??? The next set of housekeepers may have cleaned better and the room could be immaculate?

Why do people think they should get restitution after the fact??? They can't apologize for something that was never brought to their attention to start with!

You're right mamaprincess. This is like enjoying a good fight in Madison Square Gardens. :happytv:

Ellen, Please be reassured that dirty rooms are not the norm. I am not an expert and don't have countless DVC stays to my credit like some folks here, but I venture to say that even those with countless stays would tell you it is not the norm.

The most I've seen in the past 6 years is a stray hair or two in the bathroom that didn't get picked up with the mop. Our rooms have been clean and in good repair and if there ever was an issue (like on our last visit....missing a blanket for the sofa bed) it was handled quickly by mousekeeping.

I know how easy it is to get grossed out reading this stuff, but try not let it make you second-guess your decision. I'd be willing to bet that you won't have problems. If you do however, after reading this thread you will know exactly how TO and NOT TO handle it. ;)

Tip Sammie gave me when I had the problem..do not call housekeeping, you are just getting a call service, go to the front desk and ask for a manager if necessary! I never knew this. I thought if you picked up the phone and pushed the housekeeping button you were speaking to someone on the premises. Apparently not.

Yep, you basically get the Run Around center. It will be a miracle if anyone actually gets the message.

I thought this applied to pushing the Front Desk button on the phone, didn't know it happened when pushing the Housekeeping button as well!! I assumed 'Housekeeping' actually went directly there, not so??

Despite what your denial you have taken a saracastic tone which the guidelines clearly prohibit. If you re going to moderate on these boards I think you need to look up the definition of sarcasm.

Again, your room was "horrendous", had "severe problems" and was a "filthy pigsty" but you couldn't be bothered to contact anyone while you were at the resort? This is clearly a sarcastic statement. I chose not to address the problem at the time, a mistake I have admitted to several times through the thread yet you continue to point out that fact Mr. Moderator.

I'm sorry this just isn't fair or accurate. And I'm not just kissing up to a Moderator, Chuck was the Moderator who banned me recently!

He is not being sarcastic, he is clearly being incredulous at your (IMHO) unbelievable responce to clearly unacceptable conditions.

Sadly, I do inspect my DVC accomidations upon arrival. I spend 15 minutes before unpacking (It is a 2 bedroom). I check cleanliness, I flush toilets, I turn on faucets, I check the kitchen thoroughly, I check the Jacuzzi. I will gladly move (never had to yet) if there is a major problem. The minor ones, DW and I clean ourselves. Once, we got a free total cleaning (which we did not request). Once we had a shower door off the shower, how did Mousekeeping miss that? It took 2 days and welding to repair. We did not askfor compensation either.

That doesn't make be better or the OP correct, we have differnt standards and expectations.

However, if I had conditions like the OP implies, I would have never unpacked. Period.

Let me be blunt, I find the OP's tale to be unbelievable (not just hard to believe), but that is based on how I, my family, and everyone I know would have reacted. I mean how many of us would sleep with bedbugs, without complaining?

So lay off Chuck, you are choosing to find sarcasm, where disbelief is clear.

Are you going to now expect a DISboard apology or a refund of a free service?

Really!

Only Renters get poop smears. Owners get Palmetto Bugs, Used Contraceptive Devices, Food in the fridge from the past guest, and who can forget the red panties in the tree?

Enjoy your stay!

I had two, one bedrooms booked, one for me and one for my married daughter, not an owner. Her room was perfect. I previously was given the only studio in the VWL, my home resort, without a balcony though booked at 11 months out at 9 AM. I find the DVC owners are given the shaft. I think they know we already own so there is nothing to sell. They were not helpful at all. If they are going to allow the DVC rooms to go downhill the value will be lost. I no longer wish to pay dues for that kind of treatment. I spent nearly $20,000 on this membership and I expect a deluxe room, clean and with working parts!

Thanks. I sold also recently and it was also a combination of factors. We all have the right to sell if things don't meet the standards we are looking for.

Good luck.

Fortunately for DVC this has never happen to us in our 10 years as members. We pay an annual fee and expect the rooms to be in perfect condition. What gives Disney the right to provide sub standard accommodations and expect us to lie down and accept it? I can assure you if this happens to us not only will I complain but I will sit on the lobby counter and not move until the problem is corrected. Additionally I would expect a full refund for my time and inconvenience. This is the only way Disney will get the message and provided accommodations that are perfect, nothing less

You see DVC members aren't demanding.:rolleyes1

Seriously guys, please keep in mind when you complain that it reflects on all members. Please try to do so in a calm manner and give DVC the opportunity to fix the problem.

I really hope you were exxagerating. Sitting on counters? DEMANDING things? I hope you wouldn't do that.

:scared1: :scared1: Not hair on the bathroom floor! That is just deplorable! I certainly hope there were no dust bunnies under the couch!;)

Since I started this thread I am going to attempt to end it. (at least for me). I thought this was a friendly community and I think for the most part it is, but there are certainly a lot of vindictive people out there that just like to fan the flames. For everyone's information I have received an apology from DVC as they inspected the room yesterday after receiving my e-mail and concurred the kitchen area was filthy, and they assured me it will never happen again. That is all I wanted and I am satisfied. For those who baited me and put words in my mouth and you know who you are, I think you need to assess your behavior on these boards especially those who act as moderators.

Touching "housekeeping" on the room phone gets you housekeeping at your resort. Touching "front desk" gets you a central person who will likely NOT relay your message! IF you need to talk to the front desk or have a complaint specific to the resort, be sure to physically GO to the front desk to do it.

For maintenance, I have had the best service by just snagging a maintenance guy when I see him and telling him what the issue is. LOL, I did that with our burned out light bulb last December, and it was fixed during the few minutes it took me to go pick up my shoes from near the hot tub!

No, but I would never report dust bunnies under the couch anyway......they are my friends. :rotfl:

I am not making fun of anyone here by the way. Just trying to look at things in a different perspective. :3dglasses

You are correct, sorry about that. It also was the housekkeping manager who was the most competent in correcting and tryng to repair the vacation. He even got us some fast passes since he clearly saw that what was being lost was our time and they couldn't be given back in dollars. He was great and I did commend him when I wrote about the trip.
