IF she contributed then she would be able to voice her opinion about this on the board? Does each and every Moderator contribute financially to the DIS, Is that why they are Moderators? How do you know that she didn't change her name and has 100,000 post on another name? Does being a sponsor make a person more special to the DIS, give them more freedom?

I was attempting to point out that this person has contritubed absolutely nothing to the Disboard, on so many levels. She has come up with this silly petition because she's got her nose out of "joint" about a stupid smilie. Pete Werner has spent years putting the Disboards together, thousands of hours, and whole lot of his own money, all the while trying very hard to make everyone happy. We have forums for virtually everyone's interests and persuasions. If there's something which interests you, then join in, if not, then move on. But to get your knickers in a twist about a smilie? At first I thought it was a joke. Please tell me it is. :rolleyes2

BTW people are moderators because they don't mind giving of their own free time to maintain the boards. At the same time, many of them make contributions to The Dis because they're well aware of how much money it takes to run the site.

Are you joking? :lmao:

I don't have time to read through all the replies, but I will in a few minutes when I have the time.

Just in case you're not, it's a smilie, for crying out loud. I don't smoke and I've told my kids that if they do, I will break their legs, but it's a smilie, for crying out loud...

BTW, your 98% statistics are off, from what I've heard, but maybe that's been discussed already.

I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with the OP. I don't see how a little green circle with a little smoking stick coming out of his mouth is going to make anyone want to smoke. I don't smoke. But I still like :smokin:

I think Ewan McGregor is :smokin:

Oh yes.

The only smiley I'm not too fond of is.... :goodvibes

I don't know why.

AngienLuLu, I couldn't help but notice that you're a newbie, you've posted 50 times, you don't contribute financially to the support of TheDis, and yet you want to tell Pete how to run his board?

If you don't like that particular smilie, don't use it. Most of the smilies have come about because Disers have requested them. I'd like to see a smilie, holding a sign, reading "Get a Life". :rolleyes2
OUCH! She's most certainly free to post her thoughts about a smilie or anything else as long as it doesn't violate board guidelines.

I've read through the posts and now realize that the OP is a teen.

While I still don't agree with your position on the smilie issue, I do respect your views! I'd rather see someone your age (well, any age, but especially a teen--I have 3 of them myself :) ) erring on the side of caution.

If you are going to make fun of my thread, then please don't post.

mussssttttttt try to ressssssisssssstt..........

I don't like that smilie. It is called : crazy : and I feel that is teaching the wee ones to mock the mental-stability challenged amongst us. :rolleyes1

It's only a smilie!

I mean--the Dancing Banana conveys something more inappropriate depending on context.

But he's funny!

This one conveys co-showering...that's a no-no!
:dance3:

Perhaps they could move it off the displayed smiley page and just have it be a *more* smiley....but it is just a smiley! It ain't Joe Camel.

Blown out of proportion? :confused3 forgive me....I am still reading on the first page of this thread.....maybe by the time I get to the end of it this, the matter will be blown out of proportion (not sure why but it does seam like a lot of people like to argue on a thread that is about the happest place on earth :confused3 ) From what I have read so far the OP asked a simple request....if you agree with her add your name to her patition. A lot of people nicely refused.

So far yours is the first post that is really angery ....it if does get blown out of proprotion you should look back to your post to see why it got blown out of proportion.

i wasnt talking about this thread getting blown out of proportion i'm talking about in life......the janet jackson drama (did you see THAT!??...i am not sure...but if you keep saying it happened, maybe rewind it again- i guess i did)

and --- oh my kids telatubbie doll says a bad word.....(oh does it?-- well let me listen to it over and over 100 times until i THINK i hear the bad word because you keep saying its there-- i guess i did)

that is the "out of proportion" i am talking about.....or how about if a kid sees a smokin smiley they might smoke......oh thats right..... ;)

it is the power of suggestion .........that i speak of....

as far as me getting angry- i stated previously i am looking at the big picture...not just a smiley. :smokin: i am always looking at a bigger picture- cant help it- thats the way i think. :teeth:

PS---(hey wait that was too easy to put mr. smokey in my post!!--- he is on the first page now...didnt we have to "search him out" before?) or has he always been there?

Personally, I think we need this one instead...

That way, kids can see that you only smoke if you're a pimp and being a pimp is cool.

Hilarious! :rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl2:

I am not sure why so many people are making a joke of my thread. I would never post anything to make you feel down. But all who posted not in favor of my argument, I am not against you. I am sure you all have a good argument behind your statement. If you are going to make fun of my thread, then please don't post. And once again, you should not be afraid to post because of fear of discrimination, just please do it in a positive mannor. Thank you.

~LuLu

Lulu you don't own any thread you post.

And the reason people are joking--it is called irony.

You are upset with one emoticon.

Someone said b.c it doesn't convey emotion--that is why they agree with you.

There are many emoticons that do not convey an emotion specifically.

No, the OP doesn't own a thread. But she should be able to reasonably expect that posts on it would be stated respectfully.

The OP had a point, and she stated it clearly, politely and passionately. I'm embarrassed to see that some of the "adults" who have responded haven't shown her that same respect.

AngienLuLu, you're welcome to post and share your opinions and ideas anytime. But some of the grown-ups seem to need a nap, so I'm going to lock this thread.
