bad dinning reviews

WE DIDN'T LIKE IT EITHER. VERY OVER PRICED AND WE DIDN'T LIKE ANYTHING ON THE MENU
A real good reason to check out the menus online before visiting a particular restaurant. Though I've found the food at CR to be fine, I wouldn't disagree with some other posters who say the selection is fairly limited. I actually believe that to be true about most WDW TS restaurants--they purposefully limit their menus to keep costs down, not unlike many nicer restaurants in the "real" world. As for price, while I agree CR isn't cheap, it isn't out of line with just about any upscale restaurant in any decent-sized city. When we dine at WDW, we expect to pay a bit more than usual; then again, it IS Disney where bottled water costs you $2.50. It's all part of the experience. The moral: check out the selections and prices online before you go. Bon apetit! paw:

We went to Akershus for dinner 1/05, which was BEFORE it went to "all princess, all the time". We didn't care for it.

The cold buffet had some nice cheeses and salad, but the vast majority of the items were smoked or pickled fish, cold scrambled eggs (scrambled eggs in a bowl on ice), and other selections that just didn't appeal to any of us.

For entrees we had to order one at a time. The portions are very small because you are supposed to order more than one, but it became VERY time consuming. I had a small piece of salmon and a very small bowl of vegetables, but that was all I managed to get! We requested more food, it just never showed up! DH managed 2 entrees, which was good because they never brought him any side dishes!

Our server was very sweet, but the meal took WAY too long and we didn't feel like we got our money's worth since they hold the hot food hostage in
the back!

I think "bad" food falls into 2 categories....just really bad food which is based on what you know the food should taste like, and food that you just don't like but is prepared properly. Based on what I have read on the Dis there are restaurants that I will absolutely avoid, but without this board would have gone to. Everyone knows what a good burger is, what good pizza and italian food is and when food is too salty and service is terrible. Many of these places get consistant bad reviews.

One restaurant that gets a thumbs down for us is Narcoosees....expensive mediocre food (at best) terrible service in a beautiful setting. That was just bad food based on what I know. Another place that I did not care for was Rose and Crown, the food was not bad, I just did not care for that type of food. Based on that I will not eat there again...but will definately drink there.

There are also certain posters that I have found from reading their posts that have the same tasts as we do. I usually stick to what they say, because I have always found them to be correct.

:sad2: Horrible!!!! We were there on an extremely hot day so we really needed some cold drinks. We waited forever and then never got refills :confused3 On top of that our food was not good. Mine was actually cold. It was very disappointing. We really use our table service meals as down time. It was not very relaxing to sit there furious that we couldn't get a drink refil. :furious: $90.00 later (2 adults, 2 children) we knew that we would never eat there again!

Beaches and Cream was the worst food I have ever eaten in my whole life - disgusting and inedible

I totally agree! I'm always on the lookout for a tasty burger. I had heard the burgers were delicious at Beaches N Cream, so wanted to try one on our trip last Dec. The burger was terrible. The meat was old. This burger was worse than any counter service I have ever had at WDW and that's saying something, huh? ;)

The waitress we had was rude. She made it obvious our little party of two was not worth her time. She was really sucking up to the party of six next to us (read... bigger tip). She plopped our food down on the table with a bang. DGS' root beer float was in a glass that was placed in a bowl inside of river of spilt rootbeer. When she banged the bowl on table, some root beer splashed out. She said a flippant, "sorry" and then left in a hurry for me to clean it up. Unbelievable. Her whole attitude caught me totally off guard. You just don't expect this kind of treatment anywhere. To top it off, before we could even think of ordering dessert, she wizzes by our table and leaves the check without stopping and without asking us if we would like dessert. It was such a disappointing experience as I had always had such fond memories of B & C. From now on, icecream only at B & C, but if I ever get stuck with that waitress again, I will ask for someone else.

Pecos Bill. Sometimes the burgers are ok and other times, barely edible. Only my Beaches N Cream burger was worse than these. ;)

I am still looking for a delicious burger in WDW!

That's too bad!! My husband and I have been to Tony's for lunch and dinner and both times had great food and staff! But one time can really ruin your perception of a place- it's the very same reason I will never go back to Sci-Fi! I was so looking forward to that meal, and the service was awful, and the food was worse!

And the pizza at what used to be the Plaza Pavilion was the worst pizza I have ever had in my entire life. I didn't know pizza could even get so bad.

The food at Tony's was not very good, and expensive for what you got. Our server was MIA most of the time as well. I just did not like that atmosphere, and when you walk into the "foyer" it smells like mildew.

Also, I did not like Boatwright's at POR. I didn't think the menu had a lot of choices (especially for me as a vegetarian) and the food my parents got was just okay. Nothing memorable. That being said, service was fine, but the food was not my style.

1. Tonys~ The bread was awful and the food along the same line as
supermarket quality.
2. Calif Grill~ nothing special and way over priced for the quality we got. I
know this is a big fav so I'll get ready to :duck:

The coral reef in epcot was the biggest dining disappointment of our trip. This would rate as a cafeteria enviroment with average food and an overpriced menu. If you are extremely lucky and draw one of the aquarium view tables it might lessen the feel of extortion. After our so called dining enjoyment at the coral reef we went back to the poly and ordered a pizza. Just sharing the info so others dont get fleeced.

My thoughts exactly!!!!!!!!!
They don't know seafood from dogfood! - I thought the place had a peculiar smell too....it smelled like a dirty aquarium in a basement.

I would have to say Cosmic Ray's..Maybe it was that i was so gross out after we order i was watching one of the servers serve a customer, then he sneezed wiped his hand on his apron and then continued to serve them..Gross..The place wasn't very clean either..Not a place i would consider going back to..

Actually, DW would agree with you on California Grill. She doesn't think much of their offerings.

I would have to say that the majority of the food we've eat at DW has been wonderful. The only exception was Sci Fi. It was just not that good..rather bland.

Another vote for HDDR, the ribs were terrible. Also we didn't like Olivia's very much and would not go back.

Another vote for thumbs down on Big River.
My DS and I tried it last June on our last day at WDW. Food was OK but the inside kind of musty and needed a good cleaning. Since they have only single doors to the outside it's easy for flies to enter and annoy you during your meal. Not in any way a Disney restaurant....except for the prices.
Too many good places to eat in the Epcot resort area to waste any time and money at Big River.

They must be reading the posts. The last time my DW and I ate there in December it smelled like bleach. :teeth: For late night dining on the BW ESPN is better.

This thread is so funny - it really illustrates how impossible it is to plan your dining based on the reviews on this (or any other) board. I enjoy reading the reviews, but here in this thread, for nearly every restaurant mentioned as "the worst" restaurant at WDW, you have someone else saying "that's our favorite restaurant, eaten there 10 times and will go back."

From my observations over many years on these boards, I think that there are two main reasons, other than if the food happens to be bad, why people are unhappy with a restaurant experience at WDW:
(1) Where people are from and what they are used to eating. So many people say that they don't like places like Boma because they are "picky" eaters and like more basic fare. Those people will rarely like places like Boma, Akersus and any place else that serves food that is more exotic or ethnic in nature.
(2) Cost relative to what they are used to paying. Many people who visit WDW come from the midwest or South of this country, where food, for the most part, is relatively inexpensive. I live in LA so prices at WDW restaurants does not send me into sticker shock, but not true for many people. People rip on a place like Tony's Towne Square, for example, mainly because they are in shock at having to pay $15 for a plate of average pasta. Again, fair criticism, but when you are at WDW, in my mind the fact that the food is "overpriced" should be taken as a GIVEN, and you assess restaurants accordingly. If I was going out to a local place for a very casual meal, would I want the prices to be as high or expect the food to be fairly average like Tony's? No. But at WDW, sitting inside the Magic Kingdom, you are paying a premium.

Just my 2 cents

i have one for CRT. 2 years ago i went with my fiance and i was so excited because it was the first time i'd be eating in "Cinderella's Castle" so i was so giddy(yes i'm a grown woman and i got giddy about eating there lol). so we got there and first of all our waitor...oh wait.....cast member....seemed like he could care less if he was there or not. we saw all of the other CM's with smiles and very friendly calling everyone "my lady, my lord" but not ours. then we ordered our food. i got the steak and my fiance got the lamb.....both of them weren't cooked right. we gave them back probably 3 times until we just gave up and ate it anyway. and then when we were leaving the CM didn't even come over to get the check or anything we just left it on the table.

Worst Sitdown I've had.
Without doubt Marrakesh.

I hated the secret ingredient on the lemon chicken. Well that was mainly because the secret ingredient was lemon. It was so secret we couldn't taste any. The Lemon Chicken would have been better if they threw Mrs Dash Lemon pepper on it. It was that bland.
Of course that little problem wasn't all that bad compared to the fact that as soon as we bit into it, it wasn't cooked. And it wasn't even close.

The lamb was ok. But it too was bland. The appetizer stuff was pretty good though. So it wasn't a total loss. The Belly dancer is ok as is the band but that's not enough.

We went to 9 places on our trip. This was the only sit down to which we'd simply not return.

Ironically, I'd consider the counter in Morrocco the best counter service in world showcase. Do yourself a favor and if you get a hankerin for Morroco, go to the Tangeriene Cafe.

Worst Counter.
ABC Commisary. We got there early. But everything had already been sitting out a long time. They still hadn't gotten through it all when we left. So the people that came in 1/2 hour after us really got some bad stuff. This was the only counter service of the week we weren't happy with.

I agree that you have to take the opinions of others with a grain of salt. Most people rave over the food at CSR´s Pepper Market. Last trip, my son brought fettucine Alfredo and a pizza to our room. They both tasted the same. If you want to experience the flavor, just stick out your tongue and lick the computer monitor. :crazy2:

This thread has shown me that I´m not the only one who has a problem with the whole bland thing. OTOH, we LOVED the Tomorrowland Noodle place. I suspect those who didn´t got mushy pasta which must be a problem for a fast food place, but ours tasted fresh. I could eat there every day. :Pinkbounc

We really enjoyed Sci-Fi. I will say thought that I had much better luck at places like that when I just stuck with something pretty simple, cheeseburger or chicken sadwich or something. I really base my judgements on service and atmosphere. I am not sure that some of the people who just LOVE  certain places, maybe didn't just LOVE  the place and maybe the food just seems better when you are happy. If we hadn't been so frustrated with Tony's I bet that we would have enjoyed that meal more :furious: . Something was clearly wrong the day we were there. I don't know why, but they were obviously short of staff.

You nailed it! :thumbsup2
My friend who's going to WDW soon asked for advice on restaurants--wanted to go to Sci Fi. My DH and I are food snobs, and weren't impressed with the place. But we know my friend, whose idea of a good night out is to go to a chain restaurant, will enjoy Sci Fi. So I told her to go for it.
My DH and I like places that are unusual--thus, we love Boma and the OLD Akershus. We'd prefer to avoid places that serve the same stuff you can get at any food court in America. So in a way we are picky, too! :sunny:
