Bad Bathrooms!!!

I had a horrible experience last June in a restroom in Epcot.

I walked into a stall and noticed the SMELL..but didn't notice anything else... until I stepped in it. :scared:

All I can say is it is a GOOD thing I have a decent sense of humor. First I smelled..then I stepped in it.. then.. I said it. ;)

HOLY CR@P!!!!!

Yuck! Really, who finds it acceptable to do this sort of thing? Come on people.... A little respect for the people that have to share the planet with you.

were gross! I another word disgusting! I have to echo lenshanem's observations.
Public bathrooms next to Morocco were the worst I have ever seen at WDW. I actually counted 9 stalls, none had toilet paper, several were clogged, no paper towels and trash piled on the floor and not a custodial person in sight.

I went back to the CM who was collecting vouchers for reserved viewing of Illuminations and told him. But he was there alone and the radio he had only went to a group of private party escorts or guides or whatever they call themselves.

He really wanted to help but just had no idea how to

I saw a NASTY one at Epcot two weeks ago.

It was in that building behind Test Track I think. Not sure how to describe it. I can't go into the detail, but lets just say, none of the toilets were flushed (except one) and some ladies didn't even bother to use a stall....and they didn't just have to tinkle...

It was gross.

I alerted a CM and 30 minutes later, it was very clean. :)

I haven't entered one and left yet. But I sometimes have to find a decent stall.
I certainly have seen better.

That is one thing Universal/IoA have going for them. I swear anytime I have used a bathroom in either park, a staff person is always cleaning up. They are mopping, washing, reloading paper... Always someone is in there attending to the bathroom. (However they short their staff in other areas. Go figure.)

Well that is disappointing to hear pintrader. So my email and their return phone call did absolutely nothing. It sounds like the bathroom next to Morocco was exactly in the same bad shape as I saw it in last July. Gas stations on the drive down I felt better about my girls going into! How sad!
Are they even cleaning them during the day? They're too busy to skip on areas like this. Do the health officials check on these areas? Do they have to keep up with certain codes?
I'm wondering if we need to send a link to this thread to WDW?
Paint peeling, etc. is one thing, but keeping the bathrooms stocked with toilet paper, soap, etc. is another. We pay too much in admission fees to have to worry about if there is going to be toilet paper in ANY of the stalls when we go in.

Does anyone mind if I forward this thread along?

Last week, I noticed that late in the day there were some pretty nasty looking bathrooms in all 4 parks. One thing that really bothered me were trash cans were overflowing on rides like BTMRR. Not just full of trash, but trash stacked all around the trash can. It just looked horrible--very disappointing when I remember the street sweepers from my childhood rushing to pick up any dropped scrap of paper immediately.

I think someone should send this thread and we'll see if anything happens! (I'll be there in a month today). Not alot grosses me out but I can't take filthy, germy restrooms.

I have emailed WDW.

"I wanted to pass along a link to a thread that is running on a message board. Although I know this is just posts from a few people, I felt like it needed to be passed on. I am very concerned with the lack of bathroom upkeep at the WDW resort. As a fairly new Disney Vacation Club owner it concerns me all the more as I have locked our family into WDW vacations. For the amount of money people spend to enter the parks I don't think cut backs on keeping the bathrooms up to pare is justifiable. I was saddened to read that one of the bathrooms I actually contacted WDW about through this site regarding the incredibly bad state it was in last July is still in a horrible condition (Morocco). Someone called me at home and apologized, but it appears my email was of no use. Toilet paper, soap and paper towels are something I expect for the high price of WDW theme park admission. It upsets me more to think there were bathrooms on the drive down that I felt more comfortable letting my children go into. Thanks for your time, I hope that this gets attention to and not dismissed as my earlier email was.

Just got back from our first trip to WDW, and this was the one compliant my GF and I had. I have been to Disneyland many, many times and its bathrooms are pretty clean. Not at WDW. The first thing my GF said after her first trip to the bathroom, was how bad it was. That it reminded her of Six Flags MM. Not good. We noticed this through out all of the parks. Then went to Universal, we both remarked how much cleaner they were. It is not a good thing to be compared to Six Flags. They are so bad, it’s not even funny. Sad to see it this way. I will have to check out Disneyland next time to see if things are bad there as well.

Wow. I never realized how gross some of the bathrooms are at WDW. The Morocco one has been pretty bad for a few YEARS now. Eek. I don't even go near that one anymore. One REALLY bad bathroom at MGM has finally cleaned itself up. It's over by the Backlot Tours/Honey I Shrunk the Kids area (I know there is a fountain right in front ot it..LOL). That one was EXTREMELY gross for awhile and the last time I went I noticed how much cleaner it was.

I still think though that out of ALL of WDW Typhoon Lagoon has the cleanest bathrooms. There is someone always in there cleaning and stocking up on paper towels/toilet paper. That is one perk though that Universal does have. Not once have I gone into a bathroom over there and there wasn't a worker cleaning or re-stocking items.

I hope Disney cleans up its bathrooms though :earsboy:

I think one of the biggest problems is the people using the bathrooms. I have been in clean, but busy bathrooms with my DD and gone back to the smae bathroom 15 minutes later to find a bathroom that ;looks like it wasn't cleaned all day because people made a mess as they used it.
  • People don't flush the toilets. They use one self flushing toilet and assume that every toilet at WDW is self flushing. They aren't.
  • People used to make sure thir kids knew to leave the bathroom in good shape when they were finished with it. A lot of adults don't leave it in good shape when they are done and certainly don't teach their kids what to do.
  • A lot of people are using large quntities of toilet paper to "protect" themselves from sitting on the seats. Then they either don't make sure they flush it all down or it blocks the toilet.
  • Some people don't use toilet paper on the seats - they just "hover" so they don't have to sit on the seat. They end up getting urine all over the seat, but then they don't clean it up.
  • A general "I don't have to clean up my own messes, they have people to do that" attitude. This translates into people throwing wrappers on the ground - even when they are only a few steps aways from a garbage can.
  • WDW may have cut some staff, I don't know, but the staff that is left has more mess to clean up because people are not cleaning up after themselves.

But Sue, does that excuse there being no soap to wash your hands? Or paper towels all gone? Or the trash cans overflowing? I'm sorry but some of the bathrooms I have seen on recent trips looked like it hadn't been attended to all day. Seems not so long ago you could walk into any WDW bathroom and someone was restocking, etc. This is definitely a cut back and a cut back in a big way. I would love to defend WDW, too and blame it on the guests, but the truth is no soap being available isn't acceptable for the price of admission we pay and no matter how gross the "public" may be today there is no reason for it.
I can't even count on my fingers how many times I have read how clean Universal is now compared to WDW. Is WDW not paying attention here?

Shan,

I'm with you completely on this one. Of course it is people who make the mess. A few short years ago, you could never tell how many people visited WDW by cleanliness or lack of. But now you can, by just looking at the bathrooms. And yes, I'm sorry to say that Universal is now cleaner than WDW in many ways. We just did a combined trip and I have no doubt that this is correct.

From the March 15, 2004 issue of Newsweek, page 53........"Obsessive to a fault, the real-life Walt Disney had touch-up painters roaming Disneyland each night while seamstresses mended clothing of animatronic children inside It's A Small World. To trim costs, Eisner did away with the compulsive cleanliness, and now once obiquitous street sweepers seem like a faded memory."

:( Ive been going to WDW since 1988. In the beginning bathrooms were always spotless. This past year (early Dec 03)I ran into 2 that were grosser than some I remember from HS. No soap, water all over the floor and so on. Yes in the past I would run into a small mess but usually only in 1 stall and youd see people cleaning. Considering what we pay to get into WDW and what we pay to eat or buy things there I really demand decent bathrooms. Lets close the executive and staff washrooms and make them use these and see how fast it would change.

Happy Birthday Cat... :scared1:/:( I was just going to comment on the cleanliness of the up and downstairs GF lobby restrooms and how they are my favorite. That makes me sad lol.

I have learned to NEVER try the American Inn restrooms after several "disasterous" encounters

Another point - To say WDW is busier, thus the bathrooms are dirtier... Well, if they are so busy then it would seem to me they could add back in some more workers to help keep the bathrooms up to somewhat acceptable standards. My last three trips things seemed back to normal in attendance, if not more. I don't think there is any reason to use the excuse anymore that attendance is down, thus cutbacks.

Agreed, park attendance is up and I am sure margins are up as well but they continue to penny pinch.

Our AP's expire just before our next trip - we are staying at WDW but we have not yet decided on our split between Universal/Sea World and WDW

But you know I am not sure WDW is in listen mode right now - for example I have asked about E-Ride nights and gotten really lame cut n paste responses

thanks

I'm not saying it excuses that or that they don't need more staff. Our last trip was in July and I honestly did not see empty soap or towels, though I did see full trash containers. I agree it seems there have been cutbacks in cleaning and probably in training/supervision that CMs get to make sure they know what they are expected to do.
My point was that if there are limited staff, if they are wasting time cleaning up what people should be cleaning up themselves, that takes away from their ability to do just general upkeep. If they are staffing based on time it takes to replenish a bathroom and not taking into account how very dirty some people have left it, the bathrooms will be dirty.
And I have been in bathrooms where CMs just finished cleaning; the sinks and counters were clean when I went into a stall, but when I came out, there were soap and water splatters all over and towels that didn't quite make it into the trash, just from one person who didn't care what sort of mess they were making for someone else to clean up.
It's WDW's responsibility to provide clean bathrooms, but I think it's also the publics' responsibility to help keep them clean.
