Hi.
We have done the KTTK Tour and loved it.

Can anyone please let me know if the Backstage Magic Tour was just as good? It looks like it goes to AK to see the parade (or see how it is done) and stops at Wilderness Lodge to eat and see the landscaping, which is really not what I'm into but if the rest of the tour is great and like KTTK, I will book it for August.

Thanks so much!

I have taken Backstage twice, both times were great. Neither tour included AK, that has been added since my last tour. Don't forget the discounts...AP, AAA, DVC (15%), Disney Visa (20%).

We did the Backstage tour in 2010, and really enjoyed it. We have also previously done KTTK tour and found Backstage to be almost an expansion of the tour. My favorite part was the behind the scenes stop at the American Adventure pavilion you get to see how the animatronics are "staged" it really is incredibly amazing.

I did a review of the tour as part of my trip report here:http://jeffreyjennifer.blogspot.com/2010/02/jan-2010-trip-report-post-iii.html?m=1

Hope this helps and let me know if you have any questions?

We did Backstage Magic in May, and we loved it. We started at Epcot, got to see how American Adventure works, some info about the architecture back there and a great look at the backstage area behind Epcot. At Hollywood Studios they took us through costuming which was absolutely amazing. We got an upclose look at some amazing dresses and costumes that were being worked on, and it was really cool. I think it was one of my favorite parts of the tour. Just the details on the dresses and costumes were unbelievable. We also got to see one of the ToT cars being worked on which was really interesting also.

We also went to the shops behind the MK and saw various ride vehicles being painted and repaired- when we were there they had the possum from BTMR out on one of the tables for surgery and it was really interesting. Everytime we see the possum now one of us points it out and mentions the tour :) We also saw one of the props from Little Mermaid being worked on too.

At AK we saw the building with the parade floats and got to see them up close. That was pretty cool as well.

At MK we saw the tunnels and some trivia out on main street. Using the backstage entrances was pretty neat. My only gripe was while going over the Main Street trivia, we were standing in the sun and dripping sweat.

We also stopped at the garden area which was amazing. Our tour was during the flower and garden show, and we got to see many half assembled topiarys, and they allowed photography back there.

Lunch was at Wilderness Lodge, and I think they went over some basic trivia while we were on the bus, but it seemed more like a pit stop than a point of interest.

Our high points were the shops, the garden area and the costuming department. It was really surprising how much we liked the costuming part, I did not expect that.

Overall, we thought the tour was worth every penny and it really changed the way we look at a lot of things. There's a lot of things we point out to each other at the parks now and say "hey remember..." with.

I've done Backstage and Keys to the Kingdom. I LOVED both tours. As Dan said when I did it AK was not included and we ate at Mama Melrose. I really really enjoyed Backstage Magic and think anyone who is a Disney fan would enjoy it as well.

Enjoy The Magic!!

I've done Backstage Magic and KTTW twice. Really like them both.
but BM is my favorite.........so many great behind the scene things.
We also did not do AK..........was that recently added? I last went last Jan.
Love the storage warehouses the best.

Thank you very much! I don't have the Disney Visa but I do have AAA and DVC so will at least get the 15%. Forgot about that but will certainly remember when I book. THANK YOU! Thank you for letting me know you enjoyed the tour.

THANKS so much! I'll take a look at the review after I am done posting.
I would love to see the American Adventure and the animatronics. I hope that is still shown. Thanks!

Thanks for taking the time to put so much detail into your post. I greatly appreciate it! It sounds wonderful!

Thanks so much for letting me know how much you enjoyed the tour.
We are big Disney fans and after reading how much all enjoy it, I am looking forward to booking it!

I guess AK was recently added since when I went online to see how much the tour cost and about it, AK was mentioned.

Thank you all VERY VERY much for taking the time to respond. I greatly appreciate it! I will most certainly book the tour for us when we go the end of August. Do they use the headphones like they do for KTTK?

Also, do you end up inside a park or outside a park? Wondering if I should make an ADR for where we end up but also think we may be exhausted.

We are only there from Sunday-Friday so thinking we should do it on Monday so we can revisit a park and remember (hopefully) some of the interesting things we learned at the beginning of the week.

Thanks all so much! :cheer2::grouphug::cheer2:

I've done both..

I was actually one of the people smiling and staring at "something" being gestured at in the Magic Kingdom in promotional pics of KTTK in the tours brochure for several years.

With all tours, the areas you focus on will depend on the tour guide, but there's a pre-established itinerary of spots you should hit. This itinerary constantly changes though, based on operational needs and refurbishments, construction, etc..

A highlight of my Backstage Magic was entering Epcot and seeing the Gardens of the World tour nearby. The tour guide commented "Ah.. the Gardens Tour, 10ft into the park and they stop at the first planter. they're in for a thrilling day."

So, my Backstage Magic hit these locations (as best as i can recall) in roughly this order..

Epcot Future World (SSE-area)
Cut backstage by Art of Disney and loaded a bus.
World Showcase near Mexico, walked to American Adventure
Backstage American Adventure operations, back on bus.

Warehouses:
Floral
Holiday
Ride Maintenance - Vehicle fabrication, animatronic skins/repair, paint shop, etc..

Lunch at Studios at Mama Melrose (which likely dates my tour)
Creative Costuming

Magic Kingdom backstage entrance
Utilidors under Main Street
Parade Route and Parade Systems (around parade time)
Other Magic Kingdom Stuff (Haunted Mansion, Pirates, etc..)

The whole MK part was like KTTK.

I think there was also some driving around/past/through some resort areas to comment on the design, etc.

So, the itinerary changes over time.

Oh, you end where you began. Outside Epcot.

Don't make a dining reservation for right at the anticipated end time. Mine ended an hour and a half late.

We really enjoyed the backstage magic tour. It was a long day and I think you would probably not want a fancy dinner after it, maybe just someplace like Earl of Sandwich at Downtown Disney. You will have a substantial lunch at Wilderness Lodge, Whispering Canyon. Our tour's last stop was at Animal Kingdom, and we saw the Jammin' Jungle Parade. One of the highlights was going behind American Adventure at Epcot, to see how it is set up. Our guides had a lot of Disney knowledge and were very interesting to talk to. I highly recommend the tour.

They must have dropped something for the AK stop. When I took it (I think in 09) we spent a lot of time at the laundry facilities. I thought it would be a total yawn, but it turned out to be fascinating. Then again, it doesn't take that much to amuse me. :)

I think it might be creative costuming - since that was linked to lunch at Melrose in the past?

When I took it lunch was at Whispering Canyon as well, but, still no AK.

It was probably just me, but I found the costuming part the least of my liking.

I believe Holidays Services was cut, as that's offered as part of a different tour. Would definitely recommend BM, but don't underestimate how tired you'll be at the end. The tour is long, so I would recommend a laid back evening afterward. Enjoy!

Loved the Backstage Magic tour! Too bad they got rid of the portion in the laundry - it was such an unexpected delight. Watching the cast member laundry move around reminded us of the doors flying all over in Monsters, Inc. We did the KTTK tour the same trip that we did BSM, and many parts of KTTK were redundant. Our guide for BSM was spectacular and our KTTK guide was mediocre, so that might have affected our experience. I'm sure tour content varies wildly based on the guide.

So pleased I found this thread as have been pondering doing this tour and am now totally convinced. I will have to do it alone as dh will need to look after our children as they are too small to go. I'll definitely request this for my birthday this year!

Thanks for that tip! :thumbsup2

Is it possible just to go back to our hotel after backstage magic tour finishes at MK? We are staying at the GF and it would make sense to go back via boat! thank you for help.
