I need some new ideas for small toys/activities for plane ride (2.5 year old girl and 3.5 year old boy). I was thinking portable dvd player and movie for each. I need some other ideas.

How big is that Mickey Mouse Clubhouse? We like having a small toy to keep in the hotel room as well.

Thanks for any suggestions :)

What about things like a magnadoodle, silly putty, (this is my ds3 favorite new thing..it's not sticky but rather something to just stretch and shape in their hands). Magic ink books....they are clear but when used on certain books they create a picture. Hand held happy meal games, leap pad? Just a few ideas.

We like the Water Wow! books. (They don't have Disney characters, but have Dora, Diego, My Little Pony, etc..) They are great because the pen uses water, and the books can be used again when they dry.
Also, a "homemade" toy that my kids like: I use a small tin (like the ones you used to get AOL disks in the mail in) and make magnets with pictures of our family/pets/disney characters and cut them out to be figures. The kids love them.

Traciiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!!!!!

I just have to say that this:
Also, a "homemade" toy that my kids like: I use a small tin (like the ones you used to get AOL disks in the mail in) and make magnets with pictures of our family/pets/disney characters and cut them out to be figures. The kids love them.

Is GENIUS!!!

What about Paper Dolls? My girlie girl loves those and they are super portable.

Will your sweet boy do a V Smile or anything like that?

I bribe with snacks, also.popcorn::

Great Question!

Not sure if they allow the water pens on the plane due to the liquid restrictions. You might want to check before you buy them.

Try an etch-a-scetch, colorforms, there is also a similar type thing that is a tin with a couple different scenes and magnetic characters they can move around. Everything is contained inside the tin and it's pretty flat. When we traveled last time my daughter had one with horses. You can also find lots of little art kits where everything is contained in a small container attached to the coloring book. Some of them do have kiddie scissors in them so you might want to take those out. I have gotten several at Barnes&Noble. They also have great picture find books that are geared towards pre-school aged kids which my daughter loves. We have a Dora one and a Princess one. They also make a lot of games in travel size. I personally would stay away from the silly putty. My DD 6 has gotten that stuck on her clothes, in her hair and on my furniture. While it isn't sticky while playing with it properly, when it does get stuck on something it is a real pain to get it up. I have bright orange silly putty still stuck between my chair cushion and the side of the chair I can not get up. With toddler/pre-school aged kids it's bound to get stuck on something you don't want it to.

Okay, this is going to sound silly, but my number 1 airplane toy are post-its. I bring lots and DS likes to seperate them and stick them to the plane. (window seats, etc) He spends lots of time and they come right off unlike stickers. He LOVES to seperate the sheets.

It is possible to empty the water wow pens of water and then refill them once you are through security if that helps. I was planning to do this with sippy cups too, but I am not sure about the new regulations.

These are the things I like to bring for DS, he's going to be 4.

Color Wonder coloring books and markers

Leapster

Vidow Now Jr

Sticker book with stickers

Color Pixter

Aqua Doodle sheets with pen(you fill the pen with water on the plane)

Travel Magna Doodle

Small travel size play doh(comes with tool and small play doh container)

There are also a bunch of travel size games like connect four, hungry hippos, tick tac toe, and more. I have found them at AC Moore craft stores, Target, and Toys R Us. We also fly JetBlue so we have the benifit of the TV. We also don't always bring everything I listed. I let DS pick from that list. Everytime we fly he picks different combinations of the stuff. He sleeps for awhile on the plane too! Oh, and I bring little packs of gummies for take off and landing.

another idea is a viewmaster. My 2 & 4 year old both like it!

Too big! It's fun but you couldn't really use it on the plane-- maybe the little figures from the set? My DD (almost 3) loves playing with princess figurines-- she makes up stories with them. We also use a magna-doodle, stickers in a sticker book, crayons, and flying during naptime. Pipe cleaners work really well too-- they can be made into many, many entertaining objects! We've never used one of the DVD players during flights or car rides but we are REALLY, REALLY lucky and have a child who can amuse herself for hours- she likes "reading" books and making up stories with her princess action figures.

We just packed the plane back pack for dd2 and dd4. Here is what is in it:

Small paperback books (like BOB books)
Viewmaster
Travel Etch and Sketch
Leapster
Two "Little Ponies"
Toy Cell Phone (not too noisey)
Dora Action Figure? (Was a cake toppe)
Color Wonder Paper/Markers
Mini Dora Coloring Book/Crayons
Magna Doodle

We'll and lunchables, chex mix packages, and sliced apples tomorrow afternoon.

Thanks for all of your help!
