I had read that you will need to rent a locker before riding Rockin Roller Coaster because there is nowhere to store items on the ride car. Is it possible to ride it with a backpack?

As PP have said, we ride with our bags at our feet. I don't bother putting my legs through the straps and they bag stays secure. But when they say take off your hats and sunglasses they mean it. My dad wore his hat and luckily I caught it, otherwise it would have been a goner.
I'm glad to know that it's possible without renting a locker. ThanksHOT TIP! You'll need to stop at a locker (near the park entrance) before riding Rock 'n' Roller Coaster-- there's no place to store loose articles in the ride vehicles.
There are absolutely no attractions at Disney World that require you to rent a locker. Nor are there ones where you have to stow your gear in a free locker. You can take just about any personal carrying gear on any Disney attraction.
As others have said, looping a strap around your leg is a good security measure but my husband just puts our bag under his legs and doesn't bother with the looping thing.
