Backpack Gate?

I got a backpack in mid February so I’m not sure where they’re getting their rumor unless it’s a recent change. Maybe they’re back ordered? Now, AUL and GCV have always given out those drawstring backpacks when you visit their preview centers. I’m not sure if that’s all you get if you purchase there. Either way, it’s not like it’s the best quality. I’d never take it to the parks.

I’d much rather get a $25 dining gift card like they’re doing for May stays or how about bringing back annual passes for DVC members?

I’m going in May. What’s the $25 about?

IDK either. They discussed it here yesterday at start of video for about 11 minutes. Mentioned it’s a rumor, but one they think will happen.

I wonder if each different resort will have a customized enamel plated one like the 50th anniversary pop socket that a PP sent a link to? Something more fancy than the typical pop sockets.

Still, it has the perception of “we know you’re forced to use mobile phones all day in our parks. Let us help you. With a pop socket!” I mean… no one wants phones to be their life all day at the parks. Read the room Disney! Lol

Back to the video, they also chatted about the backpacks being free publicity. I think that’s a good point. Not too many people pay attention to others’ pop sockets

It depends on when you actually close. We bought some add-on points back in late November but did the three payment CC deal, so the contract didn’t close until January, and we didn’t get the backpack until mid or late February. Now we have 4 of them.

Not sure what the big deal is wrt the backpacks. If we get one, I will almost surely give it away. Still have the zippered tote that we got from 1999 - never used.

Definitely give it away because someone will appreciate it! I agree that it's no big deal, you can get a Disney-themed backpack online or a the parks anyway if that is what you wanted.
But I like the backpack because it's nice to have for taking some personal items around the parks and it's nice when CMs see it and say "welcome home"
We don't need two so I guess I'll store one for when the first one expires

I just emailed my guide to let her know we got ours and thank her again, and she volunteered the information that they are indeed discontinuing the backpacks. I think it's a bad move for the reasons outlined previously (mostly the loss of free publicity), but there you have it.

Anyone know when they switched from the tote to the backpack?

Nope, just "I'm excited you got it already. They are going to discontinued those bags."
