Backpack Gate?

I just emailed my guide to let her know we got ours and thank her again, and she volunteered the information that they are indeed discontinuing the backpacks. I think it's a bad move for the reasons outlined previously (mostly the loss of free publicity), but there you have it.

Anyone know when they switched from the tote to the backpack?
I think it was around 2018 or very early 2019. We received the blue tote in 2017. They then had a the exact same tote but black in color. Then we received backpacks for 2 contracts purchased in early March or April 2019 and they were pretty new then. My DW was hoping for the tote. I use one of the backpacks when we go, it has side pockets on the outside that we can put drinks in that have lids. Carry ponchos in the bag along with charging blocks and cords.

Nevermind the backpack - we bought our resale BLT contract and during the time period when we were closing, DVC Magnet Gate took place - never got a magnet. Whatever - I can buy the mother-of-all nice backpacks with the $10K I saved buying resale.

What's the mothership backpack, pray tell?

Ya but you have to sew “DVC” onto it yourself. Or you can pay me to do it, but at my rate, it’s cheaper buying direct. (I’d take a really long time.)

Definitely give it away because someone will appreciate it! I agree that it's no big deal, you can get a Disney-themed backpack online or a the parks anyway if that is what you wanted.
But I like the backpack because it's nice to have for taking some personal items around the parks and it's nice when CMs see it and say "welcome home" 🙂
We don't need two so I guess I'll store one for when the first one expires
My kids use our first two backpacks as their Disney carryons and they’re sized just right so that even the petite 6 year old can manage it without looking like a pack mule.

Our third one is now used by me for a place to stash my Disney crossbody, wallet, new coloring books and crayons for the kids, etc. as I buy the small things in the weeks l before the next trip. This way I know where everything is and my kids and DH don’t have to look at me running around like a crazy person looking for where I put the kids’ carryon activity books and candy 4 days before we leave

What's crazy is these things matter. I am proof of that and I know I am not alone. On the edge of purchasing DVC, but hearing about more "cheapness" going makes me worry about what's next. It's such an odd thing also, I even was a bit taken back by the loss of the physical blue card.. something so simple but it just was another thing added to the list of head scratchers. I figured giving a company 40k they could at least afford a 30 cent piece of plastic.

We bought direct in December, got the tote in December and the backpack late January with the magnets.

I purchased direct in January. After I saw all the hoopla about the backpack, I casually emailed my “guide” 2 weeks ago saying I’d be willing to sport one in the parks if they still had some lying around…he still hasn’t responded. Meh

Same. Bought 300 points directly in January and still haven't received nuthin' other than my points and a bill for the annual dues.
