Back tonight with an unexpected upgrade

Just home this evening to a non working downstairs heat unit :( so I'll be brief. Arrived at AS Sports on January 1st, booked a standard rooms with AAA for total of something like $74 tax included. We were placed in Touchdown, Bldg 10 I think, the closest one to the main buliding and food court, so maybe that was an upgrade. Room was okay, not a full line of toiletries, we were given one bar of face soap and a bottle of shampoo, that was it, maybe that's value toiletries though. :confused: Room was at the end closest to Stadium Hall, 1st floor, quiet location, no complaints. Beds were actually better than our YC ones. One question, what's up with the guard at the gate, absolute crab, demanded picture ID and glared at us e very time we went in and out.

We slept pretty good, loaded up and headed over to the YC around 9AM to get our tickets and meal plan started. Stopped at the gate, gave the cheerful guard our name, he handed DH the car pass and directed us to the entrance. We have stayed at YC before so we didn't pay much attention to the car pass. Jeff dropped me at the door and said he was going to park. I went in and got in line to check in. A few minutes later Kelly came in and said Dad decided to jsut stay out front rather than park. We stood for a few minutes and she went back out to get my jacket from the car. She walks back in a few minutes later with two CMs, they come up to me and pull me from line. At this point I've no idea what is going on, they're calling me by name and asking about our drive down. They ask Kelly to go get her her Dad and sister from the car. I'm really flabbergasted at this point, I mean, hey, I lost my place in check in line, you know? Well, the family comes in, DH has that Deer in the Headlights look. THey proced to tell us we won a "small dream", upgrade to Concierge floor. Take the keys from DH and sent the car off to valet, walk us upstairs, check us in and escort us to room 5228, which miraculously was ready at 9:30 AM. Showed the girls to the lounge and fed them doughnuts, had us all settled by 10:30. Really nice for January 2, especially after I had stood in the marathon line at AS Sports the previous afternoon, ;). I'll post more about our CL experiences later, right now I'm freezing!

Well, it's morning now, I'll reword my earlier post that is now oops. I'm in a little better frame of mind, or as well as can be expected when told by the H&Air people that it will be after lunch.

I don't mean to offend anyone but I truly hope that we caught YCs CL during a bad time. The lounge offerings were almost laughable, I have had better at places like Hampton Inn and Drury Inn for 1/5 the cost. The people that work that floor were very nice, but by not going through regular check in we were not given any resort info and therefore not aware of things going on at the resort like twice daily pin trading for the kids and the movie on the beach. We discovered all of this by ourselves. The guests on five could be utter pigs also, leaving their mess on the tables in the lounge so you either had to clean up after them in order to get a seat or look at the chaos and wait for an overworked attendant to clean it up. Some poeple made complete pigs of themselves, loading up cardboard trays with doughnuts cereal and drinks. One night the sodas were gone during the hot food and not replenished during dessert hours, go figure, leaving children with the choice of alcohol or nothing, lol. We left the room one morning and there were close to a dozen lounge plates outside our neighbor's door, most with generous portions of food still there. One evening we missed our dinner ADR due to Soarin' s fastpass line, (it took 45 minutes in the return line due to crowds, and this FP was obtained before lunch).. We asked at the coffee shop (Captain's Grille now) as there were tons of available tables. They said they were booked. I went to the concierge desk and asked a young man to see if he could get us in as we were concierge and there appeared to be empty tables. He told me to ask the people at the reservation stand. I explained that I had so he told me to go wait over there for him. FOr all he knows I'm still waiting as he never left his post, stood over there laughing with this co workers. I think we'll head back to GF next trip and definitely never book CL at YC again.

sorry it wasn't all it cracked up to be....

at least ya didn't have to pay for it....
from what I hear CL has been going downhill....less and less offerings.:sad2:

Thanks for the review. I guess I won't waste my $$$ on YC CL. I would probably only do concierge at Poly or AKL as it seems those are the best ones. Congrats on your upgrade :goodvibes .
 
If you go on the thread for the Y&BC, someone just posted pictures of the lounge offerings so you can see for yourself. It was a nice bonus, but the way the concierge CMs presented it to us you would have thought we had won our entire stay in the Castle. THey acted as if this was the most wonderful thing in the world, the gentleman told DH that they had ribs, steak, duck quesadillas on the evening offerings, guess that those were on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights, lol. All we saw were small slices of sandwich roll ups, cream of mushroom soup and sausage and peppers, and it seemed that once the dish was empty that was it, no refilling. The small bowls of snacks were often scooped up, in their entirety and dumped into a paper cup to be consumed by one family in thier room or on their way to a park. Really sad.
