Just got back from a week at CSR. Overall we had a very nice stay at Coronado. It started off a little rocky. We were put in the Cabanas and I was really excited, having stayed at Casitas last time we were there and like trying new areas and thought they looked great. We went into the room and the first thing DD 7 says is Mommy, this room smells terrible, like cigarettes. Nothing against smokers, just the smoking really bothers us. So I called the front desk, explained that it really smelled bad and asked to be moved. The lady said that it was just people break the rules and smoke in the rooms and nothing they could do to help me. I tried to reason with her a while and just gave up after a few minutes and hung up. I tried again with someone else. The 2nd lady said that building used to be smoking and that's why it smelled bad. She moved us right away. We were moved to Cabanas 8A. Right across from Dig Site. Lovely room this time and great location, close to pool and bus stop.

The resort was gorgeous. It was so pretty at night to sit on the Esplanade and have a drink and desert. The people in the gift shop were friendly. Pepper Market, average. Nothing terrible but nothing excellent. No one was overly friendly and food ok, but nothing super good. The pool was great. Kids loved it and the playground area is the best. There were crafts going on at the pool each day. The bus service was fine. Always got a bus with 15 -20 minutes. Except Downtown Disney seemed to be a problem. We waited 30 minutes and each day I was down there I heard the same thing from others, really long waits to DTD.

The best was the service upon checkout. The man that came to get our bags was super nice. We checked out using the airline checkout at the hotel and that was excellent. The Magical Express bus to take us back to the airport was right on time.

I'd be happy to stay at CSR again, although will probably try something new next time as I like to experience new places.

Hi, Thanks for the report. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay.

I am wondering if you were originally in 9A before you were moved. I heard 9A used to be smoking optional and others have complained about the smoke in that building. I too requested Cabanas 8A for Aug and I am hoping to heck not to be put in 9A. I think one of the Casitas is/was smoking optional as well. I wonder which one it was.. maybe Casita1. I suppose when I check in, I will ask that I not be put in Cab9A and hope for the best. I too like trying new places and this will be our first time at CSR.

Was there ever a time that you had to stand on the bus going to the parks? I bet there may have been times you stood on the way back, right? I know that is to be expected. I am just hoping for bus service that is better than POR. Looking forward to staying at CSR so I am busy reading all the CSR reports.

Thanks for sharing,
tink

Hi Tinkerbellmagic. I'm pretty sure the smokey building we were in at first was 9A. Believe room 9113. When we stayed in Casitas in 2005 we were in building 4 or 5 and there was no smokey smell. 8A was great. No problems! As far as the buses the only time we had to stand was the Downtown Disney Bus. That one seemed to always be slow and crowded. We were at POR in 2004 and I thought CSR bus service was better. The bus lines on the way home seemed shorter then what I saw at POR. Although I have to say I loved POR! Have fun.

Thanks for the CSR bus info. :)
I too love POR. It is absolutely gorgeous! We have stayed there twice. Once in the 1990s, in its hey day when it was Dixie Landings and once in 2005. I hope they improve the bus service there, as I miss those walks down the river. Such a beautiful resort. Looks like CSR will be gorgeous too. Too bad there is no boat to DTD from CSR. ;)

Welcome back! Glad you enjoyed you stay! Sorry about your room. 9a is a great location, it's too bad that it was a smoking building in the past. The faster they can rehab it to get cleanse the rooms of all the smoke smell, the better.

Thanks for your trip report and the heads up for building 9A. I hope they deep clean these rooms soon. It seems such an ideal location and I would like to stay there, but not in a smoke smelled room. From my understanding I thought only the second floor of 9A was smoking. The CM's should notify the individual that the room was once a smoking room and hasn't been cleaned/rehab yet since the conversion.

We are planning a cruise in December on NCL and the cabins do not have smoking or non-smoking cabins. We have been on NCL before too and never smelt smoke in our room. Reading on the cruise boards they use something call smoke out to clean the cabins in between each sailing if a passenger smoked in their room.

There was a post from a DVC member who recently stayed at OKW in a former smoking building and had alot of trouble with the smell of smoke due to allergic children. I have a feeling that the smoking buildings did not receive a thorough cleaning and/or are being cleaned in stages to not have to shut down an entire building at a time. Even though I'm told that the resort rooms are all now nonsmoking, until I know for sure that the rooms are all changed out then I'm going to add a request for a "former nonsmoking building/room" to all my ressies. I'm glad the OP was able to be moved and it sounds like the person who originally took the first call wasn't aware of the new policy. ---Kathy
