Back to school dates

Inspired by the "when do school summer vacations start" thread, thought I'd start a "back to school date" thread.

I'm thinking of visiting in August and wondered if the US schools are still on vacation then. Does it make a difference to crowd levels?

Most districts will not have this information available until after the April or May school board meetings. The calander is voted on then and approved and published in time for distribution in May or June depending upon when the school is out for summer. August is less busy than June and July for the most part as some school districts begin in August.

Our school board decides the calendar two years ahead, so we know our schedule. They went to an after Labor Day school start in recent years, so we went to Disney the last week in August this past year. Most schools are back already, so the crowds were not too bad.

Well, we live in Virginia, currently, and schools in our area never go back until the day after Labor Day. We are moving to Florida this summer, however, and the school district we are interested in will go back during the 2nd week of August.

The teachers go the day after Labor Day and the kids the next day.

The kids here go back Aug. 6--teachers the week before that. But, hey, we will get two weeks off in October! WDW in October--super!

Mooresville, NC - We go back August 1 which makes for only 9 weeks of summer break. However we get raceweek off in October, extra days at Thanksgiving and Christmas, a week off the beginning of March and an Easter break so noone really complains!

Louisiana - The school districts vary, but by the third week in Aug. I would think that all of the schools have started. Some schools start during the second week in Aug.

We go back the week BEFORE Labor Day. This is very unpopular with the kids and families but you have to make the best of it. We live in Montgomery County, Maryland. Threehearts
