Back in love with Disney

Some of the fine folks here on the DIS have sympathized with my trials and tribulations during our last WDW trip (3/15-3/20). A mistaken cancellation of our last night of the trip, followed by a messed up dining plan and a points mess-up, along with not-such-nice treatment by MS and Member Satisfaction, had me wondering if DVC would continue to work for me and my family.

That is still an open question, but something happened yesterday that reminded me of why I love Disney so much. And I want to share...

My Visa bill w/all the charges for the March trip arrived yesterday. And I couldn't make the numbers come out right. It was a good $400 more than I'd anticipated and I couldn't even guess at what the $400 might have been. So I "screwed up my courage" and called.

I called Disney itself (not Member Services), where I was transferred to someone in "researching charges." The person there was SOOOOO nice--"Disney nice" (which does happen, but not often, at Member Services). She went through my bill and it soon became evident that some of my dining charges (tips and extras) were included in the one charge for the Beach Club. I tried to stop her at that point, saying no doubt the extra $400 was quite certainly those charges--I'd just never seen a lump charge for the resort including dining charges (and the charges were at places like Coral Reef, not Beach Club places). She then stopped me, and said, "no, there's a problem here. We need to reverse some charges here...we charged you for an extra night of the dining plan when we should not have."

I promptly again fell in love with Disney. That person found a $200 error in my favor, and fixed it, after I'd told her that I was satisfied and would just pay the whole bill.

When Disney is being Disney there's no one and nothing like it...I adore Disney! Disney is worth every penny (and then a few more) that I spend there. (And that's a LOT of pennies!)...

Did I mention that I love Disney?!!!??

Now, if only Member Services could get a dose of the Disney Magic that is so much more present in other areas of Disney...

It's a "heavy question" to consider whether the extraordinary treatment I get at "other Disney" is worth the money I save by owning DVC...if it turns out that the new wait list rules and the apparent new inability to piece together last-minute reservations as a result make DVC less "usable" for me & my family, I may just sell and go back to paying very high prices--but getting even higher satisfaction from the expenditure. It is a lot of money; no doubt it'd mean fewer trips--but if I wind up able to take fewer trips anyway, due to tighter availability rules, it just might be worth it. We'll see...

And I don't want this to be viewed as an "I don't like MS" comment...it's not that MS is "mean" or "bad"--they're just not "Disney nice"...I don't feel good about spending my money through MS like I do when I spend my money through "regular Disney"...

Anyway, those decisions are yet to be made...but in the meantime, thank you, Disney--yes, for fixing a $200 error--but even more for restoring my faith in and love for Disney!

Thanks for posting this letter. I am not happy with DVC right now either, but I have two trips planned this summer to WDW, and I am looking forward to the magic. Your letter reinsures me that my "lots of pennies" will most likely bring me back the enjoyment that I seek for my family and friends attending with me. I have found the CMs to be very helpful and friendly with my ADRs and working through this new reservation system. That also bodes well. Once again, great letter. I hope you send a copy to member services! :thumbsup2
