Back from NYC

Hi laura, glad you had such a great time, we are going to NY for the first time in nov for my 40th, we had decided not to go to Ellis island, I thought it was more for americans tracing their ancestors?:confused3 am i wrong, should we reconsider, what was so great about it, any other tips really appreciated. cheers claire

Welcome Home Laur's, sounds like a fantastic time you had, love to hear all about it and see some pics. You took in some great sites even a little bit of Disney Magic.

:goodvibes

but the driver of the ferry told us not to bother getting off for the statue of liberty as we could only walk round
You can actually go up to the viewing platform if you book a time-slot online in advance. We love it - there is a museum and some wonderful views - and the guides provide a whole host of information about the statue, too. :)

Welcome back Laurs - sounds like a fabulous trip. Can't wait to read your trippy - I hope you manage to get it started before I go ;)

Welcome home Laurs, it sounds fantastic, really looking forward to seeing some photos:goodvibes

Hi Claire

I found Ellis Island fascinating. We did the audio tour which made it even more interesting. You can look round the room where the immigrants were brought to be assessed, and it tells the story of what tests were done on them and how they determined whether to allow them to stay in America. There is a lot of interesting social history there and lots of displays to look at and immigrants stories shared.

My main tip would be the same as many other people told me which I didn't truly appreciate until we were there - don't plan too much because you will want to spend some time just walking around soaking up the atmosphere - with your head in the air, marvelling at all the skyscrapers! And give the subway a go, it is great for getting around, relatively cheap, quick, and easy to use after you work it out for the first time.

If you have any more questions, please ask or PM me.
