I was lucky enough this weekend to make a side trip to HH from Savannah. I took 95 which I know is longer but I didn't want to get lost and I dropped my friend off at a sportsbar to watch the Giant game so I didn't have unlimited time. I arrived at HH which you could miss if your not careful. I didn't see any signs for DVC so I called the front desk . They told me they were at mile marker 8 by the Diner. To drive straight back and I would see Neptunes statue and to go over the bridge. I found it and arrived around 2pm. I was stopped at the gate and a shuttle driver walked over to ask if they could help. I told them I was a DVC member from NY in Savannah on business for the weekend and I've never been to HH and wanted to check it out. They smiled and said welcome home, enjoy your stay. I smiled back and thanked them.I met Shadow and played with him (her?). Very friendly and cute. I walked around back and checked out the pool area. I got a burger and ate on the balcony over looking the marsh. It was a beautiful day. It seemed like a very relaxing family oriented place. Families were playing water volleyball and having a great time. A couple of people were getting ready to go on a kayac trip with a guide (sounds fun). I walked over to look at the marina. I walked around for about 10 more mins. I went to the front desk to ask if they had directions to Savannah. They did and they gave me fresh lemonade and homemade cranberry chip cookies for the ride. Very kind. As I was going to my car to leave the shuttle driver came over to me and said "I've been looking all over for you. I know you don't have much time but would you like to see the beach house and beach???" :woohoo: :Pinkbounc I asked are you sure. I don't want to get anyone in trouble. I was assured it was alright and off we went. They told me all about the activites they have for kids and alittle about the area. The beach house is really lovely. The private beach is awesome. There were many families boogie boarding, kite flying and enjoying the beach. :beach: There were a couple of families in the pool. Signals seems nice. And 4 men were watching football and eating snacks in the beach house. My guide showed me where a wedding had just taken place on the beach  Very nice. Unfortunately it was time to go. I barely scratched the surface but HH seems like a wonderful resort for families to relax and enjoy lots of time together. I would think this would be the perfect retreat to unwind at after a commando park vacation. Peaceful, serene and rejuvenating. I will definately return and spend some quality time with my family. And to my HH guide thanks for the pixie dust you made a Mom missing her little boys day. pixiedust:

Wow. Sounds like a great and magical visit. I guess you can see why we like the DVC at HH so much.

Did you have a good time in Savannah?

I'm glad you enjoyed your visit.

Being it's so unlike WDW, we do enjoy our time there as it's so non-commando -- it's actually relaxing.
Enjoy planning a longer visit to the resort & island. :thumbsup2

Walter~ I was going to PM you. Thank you sooo much for your help prior to my trip. Savannah is a lovely city. I can't wait to visit again. Unfortunately I didn't do 1/10 of what I wanted. I didn't get to eat at either Mrs.Wilkes or Lady & Sons. Or do a walking history tour, work interfered.I did get to eat at the Pirate House ~ I got a BBQ springroll for an appetizer that was very good. Pulled pork in a spring roll with two BBQ sauces ~ one a Carolina mustard and the other a more traditional sauce. Very enjoyable. Dinner was center gut porkchops also very good. Coworker got she crab soup which he loved and a Seafood sampler which he really loved. I had a peach daqiuiri which was fabulous. No room for dessert. The atmosphere was the best part. It was an actual Pirates Lair built @ 1732. There is a tunnel which runs under it that goes to the river. They used to slip unsuspecting men a Mickey Finn and cosh them over the head, they'd take them through the tunnel to a pirate ship and the poor lads would wake up 100's of miles out in the Atlantic~ shanghied (because usually they were headed for Shanghi China. Fascinating!! I did a ghost tour with 2 real characters. It was a 90 minute tour of some 50 or so ghost stories. Really entertaining. Both of them were in the book Midnight in the Garden, both in the movie real Savannah natives. Both their families many generations in Savannah. Both had personnal ghost encounters~ one lived in a haunted house the other grew up in one.Really a hoot. They encouraged us to use digital camaras and see if we got ghosts in our pictures. They claimed they they would appear as orbs (white, blue, red spots on your picture or streaks of light yellow, red, blue) It was weird everyone got these orbs not all on the same picture some people didn't get any. I got a few but being skeptical I think there is some trick involved. Strobes planted ??? It was lots of fun and really informative. They claim Savannah is the most haunted city in America cited by several universities and paranormal societies. They feel there are 3 major reasons 1. When Savannah was settled the native Indians buried their dead in mounds the settlers just leveled the mounds and built right on top of them. 2. Savannah was the site of the 2nd bloodest battle of the Revolutionary War I think they said over 1100 people died and were buried where they dropped. 3. There were many large outbreaks of I think they said yellow fever and something ridiculous like 400 people died a day. and were burned in large pits ashes scattered in the wind. on top of the Civil War. Sorry I don't remember exact details but we were able to take a drink with us and I got another peach daqiuiri for the ride. :rolleyes1 I really enjoyed my short stay but there is sooo much to see and enjoy I definately need to return and spend a few more days. Thanks again Walter for the Southern Hospitality.
