Just got back from HHI. Had a great studio (room 1112) a handicaped room! None of us are handicaped, but we took the room anyway! A NICE ROOM AND HUGE PATIO!! It was right next to the front desk. Actually about 25 feet from the front desk. It was nice to get coffee in the morning and read the paper while family slept. Cm's were great, and we swam the 1st day. The weather was great! I played golf at Robert Trent jones course one day and Arthur hills the other. DO NOT PLAY ARTHUR HILLS unless you are a good golfer. I shot 10 strokes over my average of 92! A VERY hard course. RTJ was a great course and I shot my average (ok, a 94 there)! I got a rate of 2 courses for $160 including range balls.

On the last 2 nights, we paid cash for a 1 bedroom and got a 2 BEDROOM!! He upgraded us to a 2 br for the price of a 1 br. Gotta love that! Our room # 2421 right next to the pool! A great upgrade! (By the way, 2 things: 1- almost all I talked to did not own at HHI, they got in on the 7 mos time,2-the place is just about 1/2 full on Fri/sat. Not many people at the campfire, etc. It was VERY evident that the pt structure at HHI is Skewed to the bad for weekends. One person called on the way down from N.C to see if they had 1 night, and they did, so they stayed 1 night and called at 10am the same day! (does that tell you how empty it is?)

We ate at Gespizzes pizza, cooked 3 nights, ate at Fitzgeralds one nite. We did the dolphin cruise and Kyle (the captain) was great!! We had a 2 hr boat ride, and saw lots of dolphins, it was something worth doing!

The weather turned on Sat a little (rain, sun, rain, sun) and then sun we left when T.Storm ALEX was offshore.

All in all a great trip, if I can answer questions, write me!

Sounds like you had a good time. The weekend situation doesn't surprise me, who can afford those weekend points?

We're heading down to HHI August 28th. Did you rent bikes while you were there? If so, how much were they?

Also how much does the Dolphin cruise cost?

We brought our own bikes, so can't tell you how much it was.

The dolphin cruise was on member day (wed), so a discount, it was $27/person. I think it was $30/person on other days.

HTH!

Glad to hear you had a great time.

My brother and his family left for HHI today. I hope the weather isn't too terrible!

Hi We will be going August 29 for a week. You said you cook for 3 days, is there a place nearby to buy groceries? We will be driving so I was planning to take stuff but if there is a place nearby that would be even better. Thanks

Don't worry DiznyMagic, there's a great Piggly Wiggly just down the street.

We're checking in soon as well. Can't wait!

Drive safely!

Hi,

Thanks for sharing!!! Can't wait to go back in May!!

Thanks TW1 - ha piggly wiggly - I wont' forget that name! LOL

Hi,
We just got back yesterday, were there 6 days. The Piggly Wiggly is the closest market but if you leave the resort, make a right onto the highway and head to the circle, go right at the circle, you will see a Publix on the left. It seemed to be less expensive than the Piggly Wiggly but...the cashiers at the PW gave me the shoppers club discount everytime. There is also a Hattie Harris ( I think that's the chain) near the circle.
We took business 278 to the resort on our way there and later in the week took the toll road, I don't know if it's a shorter route distance wise but it definitely was faster. The toll was $1.00.
We loved HH and hope to go back next year!

I would love anything to shorten my drive. Do you remember the name of this road, the directions only give 278. I will be coming from Charlotte, NC.

TIA

Forgot to mention while at HHI, a new Marriott timeshare is being built on the ocean. It is opening in June 2005..
Just thought you might want to know, all you Marriott owners out there...

We like Publix the best, as well. The other store across from Publix is Harris Teeter . We like them a lot, too, but if you shop there, be sure to get one of the VIC cards so that you can get the discounted prices! Food Lion and Bi-Lo are also on the island, but we never go to either of them. (No particular reason, just creatures of habit, I guess.)

The toll bridge is the Cross-Island expressway. After you get ON to Hilton Head Island, 278 forks off -- Business 278 is on the right and is the "long" way; just follow it all the way down and the resort is on the right. The toll bridge is the left side of the fork. Once you get to the end of the bridge, you go straight to Sea Pines Circle and do the equivalent of a left turn (3/4 way around). The resort is a few miles up on the left side. If you arrive during a high traffic time, the bridge will definitely save you time. Otherwise, I don't think there's that much difference in the drive, and the "long" way gives you a chance to orient yourself to more of the island. JMHO. ;)

Glad you had a great time! One day we will check out HHI for sure since we have family in SC. Right now, we're planned through 2006:teeth:

Thanks for the great trip report!
