DTD Babycakes NYC just posted this on their facebook page.

We are super excited! You can now request BabyCakes desserts when you make a dining reservation at Walt Disney World!

When you call the dining line, 407.WDW.DINE you can request to have our items added on to your dining reservation, just like when you order a celebration cake with your meal!

Tonight when I get home I plan to contact a couple chefs as well as order a birthday cake for next month. I'm SOOOOO excited!!!

I just saw that posted and am headed over to BC in a bit to confirm with Emily. :cool1::cool1::cool1::banana::yay:

What a great service! I travel with a gluten-intolerant friend and she will be thrilled!

So....would it be charged the extra fee like a cake and isn't free right?? I presume the chef at the TS restaurant would still provide a gluten free dessert as usual?

We don't eat gluten free but with the nut allergies we are sometimes given that as an option for dessert. I hope Disney doesn't make us pay extra at some point for nut free/gluten free, etc. desserts.

Disney already charges more for allergy safe food when you are not on the dining plan.

Really? I am just back and we were on a dining plan some of the time and not on it the rest and we weren't charged more for his desserts than the typical cost of a dessert at that place.

I know cakes are a special order - I guess I'm wondering if by this Babycakes announcement if it means you can just get a cupcake or are they just talking about multi-serving cakes.

Per email from special diets-

" Due to the higher cost of dietary products, there may be an increased price. If you purchase the meal plan, it is considered a regular meal and you will not be charged for the difference."

I guess "may" is the key word here. At least last week the desserts were the a similar price. I am talking about single serve desserts in CS and TS restaurants and not entire cakes.

I suppose that makes me curious if people have paid more than typical Disney prices anywhere for a single serve dessert geared towards their allergy.

I am not going to play with words. As a local we spend a lot of time in the parks and I am sharing our experiences. I know the single serve "allergen safe" desserts are comparable to Disney prices. We have been charged more for dairy free ice cream. I would expect that to remain the same.

Babycakes items (even single serve) are more and I would expect those prices to remain higher. So if you order a Babycake single serve item I would expect to pay the Babycake price.

I'm going with the assumption that if we request a Babycakes dessert that there will some kind of charge. At fixed price restaurants I can't imagine that it would be included though I certainly won't complain if it is. Regardless of the restaurant, I'm expecting a charge. As to how much that will be, I have no idea. At this point I'm guessing that it'll be a little more than if I picked up the item at BC itself. Hopefully we'll find out prices REALLY soon. I'd have to second guess ordering these if they're priced similar to the slipper or treasure chest desserts.

I also assume that the allergy desserts currently offered at restaurants will continue to be available. I don't see a lot of people taking advantage of this service and Disney has been so amazing about allergies that I can't see them doing away with the current options. I'm probably among the minority who has somebody in her party who can't eat the standard allergy dessert options other than the ice cream so that's why I'm SO thrilled. DD13 doesn't get many options so this is wonderful for her.

As to the current price we pay, well, yes we have payed more. Look at the menu at the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor at MK. With a DDP snack credit most can get a large double scoop sundae but all we can get is a single scoop of non-dairy ice cream with nothing on it. If paying OOP that single scoop is almost as expensive as that sundae. At POFQ the chefs have made a special batch of brownies for DD13 but they're maybe 1/3 the size of the regular ones. We pay full price listed for an allergy brownie for that little thing and I believe that price is slightly higher than the price of a regular brownie. It's just the way it is for some of us. I'm so appreciative of being able to get these things outside of our house that the price is fine with me. I also understand that Disney's profit on my more expensive items is lower than their profit on regular items so I can't really begrudge them for charging more. In a sense I also pay more for things like burgers since we get less with our burgers as my kids can't eat even the allergy buns but we certainly don't get a discount for not getting everything. Again, it is what it is and I'm happy to pay the prices. I've also found that since my girls mostly get ice cream at TS restaurants that in these situations I'm shocked when the bill arrives to see that we're often charged kid sundae prices even though they get more than that and it's the allergy ice cream so I guess it balances out in the end.

What she said:goodvibes

I wonder if this would include donuts at the breakfast buffets? I'm not keen on the cupcakes or regular cakes because I'm not keen on the frosting for those, but I LOVE the pink donuts with the sugar crystal sprinkles.

I would think that at breakfast buffets they'd be more likely to carry Kinnikinnick donuts and/or muffins and that you'd have to specifically order and pay extra for Babycakes products. Just my gut feeling. Which of course stinks for me since my DD13 can't eat the Kinnikinnick ones. I've got my TA tracking down more info for me and I'll post updates once I find out more.

The kinnikinnick ones are OK, but I'd rather have the babycakes ones because they're fresh. One can only take so much frozen donuts/muffins/etc.

Hono and Clan, I am willing to "take one for the team" and run over and ask Emily any questions (of course I would most likely buy some cupcakes;)) if you need me to-

We are on the dining plan, so I would also love the answer to this. If this is in addition to whatever they normally offer for allergy free desserts in the restaurants. Looking forward to hear an answer, if you can get one. Thanks.:thumbsup2

Fresh gluten free muffins, biscuits, cookies, etc. are such a treat. I'm now at the point I don't care how expensive it is. :goodvibes It's such a treat to have a fresh "goodie".
I'm looking forward to visiting BabyCakes when I get to the World. I plan to buy their recipe book, along with a bunch of sweets. I'm drooling already.:cloud9:
I usually want to go to the Castle as soon as we get there. But, now I want to go to DTD, and find this wonderful shop.

livndisney, your sacrifice is greatly appreciated. :lmao:

My TA spoke with Emily yesterday. It seems they haven't finalized the details with Disney yet but they should have that done within the week. You know, it seems they likely shouldn't have posted on facebook and twitter before the details were finalized. Anyway, he said he'd call back next week and see what's happening. I'll post updates as I hear them.

Very excited to hear this. DD gets tired of the same ol Divvies cookies at most restaurants. Would be great to order something special for her:love: Looking forward to hearing more details once things are more concrete.
