For those of you who use baby carriers while at the parks, what do you do about going on the rides? Are you able to get on and off and be comfortable with the baby still in, or do you have to take them out all the time? Just trying to figure out if I should bother bringing it to the parks or not... Thanks!

i wore dd, who was 15mo at the time, in a ring sling on most rides and it was fine. i wore her on things like dumbo, magic carpets, etc. i let her sit alone on its a small world and a few other tame rides. we had the stroller but i carried her in the sling while waiting in line and it was just easier to keep her in it when we got on the rides. this time around i plan on carrying my 7.5 month old in line in a hip carrier. the sling is also nice to have in the stroller basket in case your child gets tired of the stroller, or when you are just going to a ride that is nearby and you dont want to strap them into the stroller, push the stroller, unstrap, etc.

Thanks. I have a 9 week old and a mei tai carrier so I'll be carrying him belly to belly and was mostly wondering about the bars getting in the way... Any thoughts on that?

That was the only thing that I thought of, would be the rides that have the bars. They might get in the way or you would just have to lift the baby up a bit to put the bar under the carrier.

I don't have any imput for you, but am interested to see the results I just got a hip cartrier for my 19 month old, primarily for once we have to leave the stroller off and enter the ride lines. Do I get to use it on the rides?

When we took Madison at almost 3 months old I wore her in a Baby Bjorn the entire trip and she never really got in the way of the lap bars. I just kept my hand in front of her to be sure that the bar didn't hit the Bjorn, but other than that it was just as easy as getting in myself. On the few rides that I held her instead of using hte Bjorn (Pirates comes to mind) it was very hard for me to climb in and out of the vehicle while holding a 2 month old. So I'd recommend using the baby carrier cause it leaves your hands free to get in/out of the ride easier.

Oh, and Disneywed, we had a hip carrier that we brought with us when our daughter was 13-14 months and we used it 1 day and that was that. Not sure if she just didn't really sit in it well or what but she sorta slid around in it a lot and I had to kinda hold her in place so it seemed sorta useless. When she fell asleep in the Bjorn I could just go about whatever I was doing, but when she fell asleep in the hip carrier I had to hold her body in place, and a sleeping 1yo can get heavy. I had used it before at around 10 months and didn't seem to have that problem, but then again I wasn't walking around WDW all day. BTW, she was about 31 inches and 19 pounds then if that helps at all.

I wore ds with a ring sling on just about everyride that didnt have a height requirement. Small World is a great place to nurse :goodvibes

Thanks for the heads up for nursing on Small World!
DD will be 9 months, does not use a bottle at all and has not mastered the Sippy Cup! She does eat regular food. I am just worried about keeping her hydrated.

i nursed dd in pirates, after the drop ;) it was so hot outside, and inside pirates was much cooler, and she was afraid of the ride anyway. what better way to calm her down? :)

actually, i was nursing her in the ring sling on the ride and she drifted off to sleep, so i nursed her all the way from the ride to the benches outside of pirates, where she fell asleep and i put her in the stroller. there were some benches that were farther away from the main crowds and it was perfect for leisurely nursing and rocking the stroller. plus its shaded under there. id nurse my kids anywhere, but especially when its naptime id rather have a nice quiet place to go so they arent too distracted. naptime for them = shopping time for me ;)

I wore my then 8 month old daughter all day in Magic Kingdom and had no problem at all with her. She and I fit well in everything except space mountain! :rotfl2: I had her grandfather hold her while I took her older brother on it!

It was a tummy to tummy carrier and she was very use to being in it as I used it many times a day a home too.

I too have nursed my kids anywhere and everywhere! Even in a casino in Atlantic City.
I wish we used a sling. I just never have been able to figure them out and get comfy with my kids. It would be nice to have my hands free!

I used an MIO - like a maitai but with buckles with my 13 month old this past February. He wasn't feeling great so he was in it almost the entire trip. I kept him in it on all the rides we went on except for height requirements one Aerosmith and Mission Space. I also used a ring sling at times but the MIO was easier for when he slept.

We use a baby sling all the time and I was wondering about this, too.
DD loves to sleep in hers and I don't want to have to take her in an out all the time. We have a kangaroo korner adjustable fleece pouch and it's so comfortable, I'd hate to not be able to use it a lot. Plus we finally mastered nursing in the sling, so that makes everything SO much easier! ;)

Hello. I wore DS 7 months (and 20 pounds) in a front pack lots! He did great. Loved seeing the action and we were able to fit fine in rides (and I'm not a small person). We also rode some rides not with him in carrier (sometimes we travelled around with him in the stroller). And everyone let me bring him on the rides. The only "trouble" I had was in AK on the dinosaur ride, they wanted him to sit next to me and be strapped in (we were also riding with DD). I complied and during the ride he was back on my lap (I could hold him better that way).

All worked out fine and he was a champ -- in fact, out of my three he was the best.

Oh, I too nursed lots of different places (poor kid didn't get nearly as much nursing time in as we do at home). He also could drink water really well out of those water bottles they sell in the parks (like a sports bottle). And even used some straws well.

Good luck & have fun!

p.s. Hi Ryan & Justhat!

We just got back with DD (8 months old). We took our stroller, as well as a Baby Bjorn and my Hotslings. We alternated between all three...DH used the Baby Bjorn a lot, and I also used either that or the sling. We used the them on most attractions and had no problems...we just watched her legs when the bars lowered. We used the carriers in all lines and when we didn't feel like frequent transfers to/from the stroller, but the stroller was also very nice for longer distances, when we were tired, and for storage of the diaper bag, etc.

Have a fun trip!!

Anyone else have some input for me? :sunny:

Went when my son was 6 weeks. Carried him on most in a baby bjorn. Can't think of any where there was a problem. It was a wonderful trip!

Just some thoughts....

For those of you going during the heat, be careful of overheating baby in the sling! ;) Kangaroo Korner slings makes a very beathable ringsling that's great for the heat!

Anyhow, when my DD was younger, I had GREAT luck with the Ultimate Baby Wrap!!! Stretchy tee shirt material that was easy to use and comfortable to wear.

And there ARE tons of great places to nurse at Disney, aren't there? The Transit Authority is one of my favorites! :)

We were in WDW last fall with my then 11-month old granddaughter and just turned 4 year-old grandson. My dil carried her daughter in a Heart to Heart sling most of the time. The baby actually took her first steps in Epcot! She nursed and napped in the sling too.

We also used the sling a couple of times for the 4-year-old, when he got really tired. His dad (my son) would carry him in the sling - it was easier for one of us to carry the 11-month-old just in our arms, while he had the 4-year-old in the sling.

Whenever we go to the parks, I bring my Ergo carrier as well as the stroller. I alternate between them. However, if it is hot outside, I dont use the Ergo....I dont want her to get too hot. We've been alternating in the parks since my DD was a small baby....she just turned two now and I still use the Ergo.
