It seems that over the last 10-15 years, childrens' names have become less "traditional". Almost no one names their boys Steven, Michael or John anymore. Girls are no longer Jennifer or Katherine. Popular names are victorian or geographic etc.

I realize that popular naming trends change over time but just out of curiosity what popular names drive you up the wall and if you never heard them again it would be too soon???

As a teacher I have many!
Jordan
Derick
Brittany
Justin
These are all I can think of now, I teach high school and these are what is popular for this generation. The ones in elementary school now I'm not as familliar with but ever so often I hear one that drives me nuts. I just can't think now.

BTW- no offense to any Jordans, Dericks, Brittanys or Justins meant!

Here is a picture of our new baby daughter, Katherine!
(There are a few traditionalists left!) :p :p

BTW, some of you may remember my post when she was born. Well, she's 5.5 months old now. Time flies.

ROFL that site is hilarious!!!

Most of the names I dont like are attached to people I dont like ( please dont take offense if any of these are your names it is NO reference to anyone here on the Dis lol)

JoLene

Trista

Chastity

Im sure there are more but those are at the top( bottom) of my list

no offense meant if you or your children are named any of the following but.....
the following names get on my nerves
Madison
Tyler
Taylor
Skyler
Jessica
Cody
Mariah

Sorry but I have a DD in elementary school and have seen way to many of the above
DD's old fashion name is Olivia Abigail
who knows that may be on someone else's list

When we were choosing Jacob's name, we eliminated any names that could be for either a boy or a girl and names that had more than one "normal" spelling. I like some of those names, but I feel sorry for the people who have them sometimes. Our neighbors named their DS McKinnley, and people were always asking if he was a boy or a girl when he was a baby. And our last name is one that already has to be spelled out. I don't want him to have to spell his first name, too.

It has surprised me that many people have asked me how we spell Jacob. They want to know if it's with a C or a K. I've never seen it with a K and never considered it.

I was working as a newspaper reporter a few years back, and developed pet peeve for normal names spelled strangely.
For example: I covered an event where a dance class was traveling to Canada for a show. They had three girls named Amy with three different spellings:
Amy
Aimee
Amie

Then there was the Keligh, Kaylee, Keighlee debacle.

In Journalism 101 you're taught to ALWAYS ask how to spell someone's name when quoting them. These days that is SOOO important! :p :p

(No offense to anyone with an Aimee, Amie, Aighmey, Kaylee, Keligh, Keighlee or Alice.)

That website was hillarious.

I always disliked the name Melissa (maybe b/c I knew a girl when I was little named that I couldn't stand)

I have a cousin who named her son Skylar and I really do not like that.

Someone on that site posted about having a name that could be both grown up and shortened for a child. Her example was Victoria, and as a child call them Tori. I always liked this mentality. I have a name that now as an adult I go by because it sounds far more professional, but as a child I went by a nickname to that same name (which my family and friends still call me  ). Oh and my name is "normal" with the most common spelling in both the original name and the nick name.

LOL ChefBilly I know what you mean about the Kaylee thing dd is named Kaylee and Ive known since I was 15 ( it was NOT popular then) and heard the song " Kayleigh" that I wanted to name my daughter that ( actually I wanted twin girls named Kaylee and Kylee but God wisely only gave me one at a time ;) )

I wanted to make it as easy to spell as possible ( and shes actually Kaylee-Anne) because her middle name is Marina ( poor thing she got saddled with all the names because we thought that she was our last lol)

But poor Karissa always gets a "HUHHH???" everytime I say her name lol

oh well to each their own I guess.i

The only name I really, really dislike is Maureen -- DH's ex.

When we were thinking of names for our kids, I didn't want a name that could have a nickname. I always wanted to be Cindy but the teachers always tortured me and called me Cynthia. I didn't want my kids to go through that. So, we named them Cameron (which could be shortened but we haven't) and Walker (which a lot of people think is Walter).

I would have probably named one of our boys Michael had it not already been a name chosen in our family.

ChefBilly, your little one is a cutie!!

LAUGHING at that website, and I haven't even finished the first part!

Did Zurg write the comments?

When my son was born, Ashley or Ashliegh or Ashlee was a very popular name. There were lots of girls and boys running around playing, a mother would yell Ashley, and at least 3 or 4 of them would stop.

Names do fall into patterns, sometimes people look at parents and ask, you named her .....Katherine, or Nancy, or Barbara? All the names I grew up with are very unusual now. I remember a girl in my 6th grade class named Zilla. That is one name I have never seen again.

To each his or her own! Thank goodness we are not all named the same thing.

I don't like made-up sounding names. My neighbor was sure her baby was a girl and was going to name her Tagan (like Meagan) thank goodness he was a boy and she named him Jordan. I have recently heard the name Gage for a boy - don't like that either.

This is just my opinion and there are probably people our there that don't like my kids' names - Erik, Kevin and Kristen

When I was pregnant I wan't for a girl the name abigail or for a boy Jacob, my EX didn't like either so when I was on the table after I had him with no drugs I was just releived it was over the nurse asked me what is his name, I blurted out Daniel. When I told my mother his name she couldnt believe I did that, I hate a guy name Daniel when I worked at the bank. I call him Dan now, he is a young man and really fitting in his name, I still like Jacob:D

Aimee is actually the traditional French spelling. Just like Mathieu instead of Matthew.

I'm glad Jennifer is no longer in style. It was bad enough being a Jennifer growing up.

My husband and have have decided on Logan or Lillian (Lilli for short) if/when we have kids.

You know, I have HAD IT with these names!! That website was hilarious!!!!! I'm a teacher, and I can't say half of the kids names on my roster each new semester! What's the point of name that sounds normal but when written, looks absurd and confusing to pronounce! I just don't get it. Like this for example, Jaeceon, what is it? If it were spelled like normal people spell it, I'd be able to read it on the first try. By the way, it's the same as Jason.

My children both have first names that are considered trendy with traditional middle names (after family). I like both types of names so we used both :).

Great website to check out what names were popular 1990 - 2001.

I can't think of any names that I hate. I really don't care what other people name their kids!

First off...no offense to anyone, this is just my opinion, which really doesnt mean much. ;)

I think Emily is way overused. In DS's first year in preschool he had 8 kids in his class, 2 were Emilys. It seems like everywhere we go there is an Emily. Its funny, I like Emma, but not Emily.
As for boys, one name that Ive been hearing a lot more over the past 5 years, and I just dont like it is Caleb. It just doesnt hit me right.

I went a little different with "Colton". I can tell when people dont like it. I get the "What is it?...Ohhhhhh, thats different". That usually means, "I dont like the name, but I have to say something about it". I dont take offense, because I love the name, and thats what matters. ;)
