Baby Names that have been done to death

Some trendy names aren't so bad. For example "Madison". Nobody and I mean NOBODY was naming their girl Madison before the movie "Splash" but it is a pretty name for a girl and will eventually become a classic girl's name. But no one ever seems to dip below the Top 10-20 names for ideas. People are always sticking to the Top 20 when far down on the list you will find some wonderful classic names for boys and girls.

When I was pregnant I always looked at the top 10 so I would know what NOT to name my kids.:)

We have a Zachary, Charlotte and Mary (she is called Mary Grace). Very common names but not very popular. We prefer more traditional names.

I don't know about dull, but I'm not a fan of super-popular names. My brother's name was so common that when we were growing up, he couldn't even go by Brian M or Brian Mc because there were others that shared the last initial as well. He went through school as Brian McG, one of 6 Brians in his class.

My name, on the other hand, never required a last initial, and I was pretty determined to find names for my kids that struck the same balance of being uncommon but not weird. So I have a Sebastian, a Shanna, and a Katherine.

At least you spelled Conor correctly! My friend's husband is from Ireland (and a Conor as well) and it drives him crazy when Americans spell it with two Ns.

Let a Canadian put you right over the edge then:laughing:
Mine is Connor!
I also have an Aaron, Brett and Dean. Our background is Irish.

I know so many Brittney's, Brianna's. I thought Connor wasn't popular when we named him, sure enough, lots of Connor's out there!

We were going to name our son "Alex" except when I was pregnant every baby boy we met was named "Alex". So, he became an "Ethan". Then we moved cross-country and "Ethan" was the second most popular name in the state (DS7's middle name was the most popular name in that state). Thankfully, we moved before Ethan hit the school system. He's now the only Ethan in his class, which has two Timmy/Timothys and two Olivias.

DD is Amelia, but we've always called her Molly. We have run across a few Amelias and Mollys but they are fairly rare.

I like my kids to have their own names... not named after any living relatives (both DH and my brother were named after their dads; I was named after Mom's best friend from high school). I also prefer names that aren't too common and are spelled in one of the traditional manners.

I didn't want my children to have trendy names and I always loved traditional names, so we have an Edward, a Philip, and a Marie. None of them had another child with the same name in any of their classes

If I named a child now, I would either use Marie, Mary, or Edward for a boy. Marie is my middle name. Edward is my husband's. I love Edward.

Great names!

I just received an email that is so appropriate (maybe) for this thread. The girl's name was Le-ah.

The mother was upset that no one at school was pronouncing her name correctly.

The problem.

The name is supposed to be prounounced Ledasha. The mother said the dash was silent. :lmao:

My sister is called Marie - she runs into endless problems with people trying to call her Mary or Maria. I don't like that name at all - it means 'bitter' and she can be! :rotfl:

Well I have a Molly too. She is the only Molly in the entire elementary school (the receptionist pointed this out to me). But I have to say that Molly is up there with the most popular names to name your girl dog :rolleyes1

When we named our daughter, my DH wanted Madison. It turns out it was the most popular name. We decided not to go with that. We ended up with Kady. I love this name. It cant be shortened, and no nick-name. She loves it when people ask her if her full name is Katherine, and she says, no Its Kady.

Great names!

I love the name Edward, too. I have a grown nephew named Edward. However, with the popularity of the Twilight books with teenage girls right now, I'm predicting a large number of baby boys will be named Edward in five to ten years. ;)

We named our kids Ashlyn and Brady. I don't think those are to out there. I don't feel like they are over common. Just perfect for us. Even though I hear more and more Ashlyn

We have a Brady too! I liked it because it was trendy but not too trendy. I didn't want a name in the top 100 and it just cracked 100 in 2007 (97th). I have run across a lot since he was born (he is 2 1/2) but the name isn't too popular yet. Plus, I think I hear Brady a lot when we are out but it is really Brayden, which is REALLY popular in this area.

For a girl I was going to name him Avery, but that has really jumped in popularity (up to 48) that I don't really like it anymore. I really like Lexie now which is 333 if spelled Lexi and 500 some if spelled Lexie.

My "cringe" names right now are Aiden, Conner, Jacob, Brayden, Caleb, Jayden, Madison, Mikayla, Kayla, Hailey, Emily, Hannah, Mckenzie.

I was born in 1980 and my name was Kelly (during the Kelly/Jennifer/Jessica/Kimberly heyday) so I know what it was like to be an initialed kid all through school and I didn't want to do that to my kids.

DH and I went back and forth for quite awhile before finding a name for DS that we thought was a good, solid, non-trendy name.:lmao: Both last year and this year, he's the only one in his class with that name and probably the only one in his school.

I've seen a few kids with doozies for names. One girl in DS's class last year was named Isis. I also saw a mom at a local park toting a diaper/tote bag with the name "Rhiannon" on it.

Over the weekend, we went out to a local pirate-themed festival. I nearly died laughing waiting for DS to finish the hay maze because there was a mom hollering at her kids:
"Calamity and Patience! CALAMITY AND PATIENCE! You are making Mommy lose her temper!".:lmao:

May I suggest Kate, Julia, Denise, Annabel, Lori

Good luck. You'll eventually figure it out!

Those are great suggestions. (Actually, my brother already suggested Denise because he already has "de nephew". *Groan*)

We'll name her something! :)

You should have asked her "Is that an em dash or an en dash?" :lmao:

My name is Denae. My maiden name is German and 13 letters long. I moved almost every 2 years as a child, and spent much of that time pronouncing and spelling my name for every person I came across.

I did not want to do that to my kids. Their names are Hannah and Emily - very popular, I know. Emily will be known as Emily B. her entire school life. But it's o.k. I love the name and it fits her perfectly.

Denae

do you happen to have sons named Tyler and William also??? :rotfl: JK, see my girls names.
We chose Emily cause we liked it from the time my ds was born 13 yrs ago, 5 yrs before her. Hannah, we chose from a family member when I was pregnant with her. I wanted to stick with the initials W,F,or H to honor her brother so Hannah Faith she is.

I've seen a few kids with doozies for names. One girl in DS's class last year was named Isis. I also saw a mom at a local park toting a diaper/tote bag with the name "Rhiannon" on it.

Rhiannon is a traditional welsh name. Isis, although more uncommon, is the name of an Egyptian goddess and is becoming increasingly popular.

"Calamity and Patience! CALAMITY AND PATIENCE! You are making Mommy lose her temper!".:lmao:

I was in the supermarket once and heard "LEVI! MERSAAAAAAYDES! CHARDONAAAAAAAAAAAAAY! GET OVER HERE!!!!" Good grief - Levi, Mercedes AND Chardonnay?!

I love the name Edward, too. I have a grown nephew named Edward. However, with the popularity of the Twilight books with teenage girls right now, I'm predicting a large number of baby boys will be named Edward in five to ten years. ;)

And Bella, and Jacob.......

Lets hope the name of a very pivotal character in the last book doesn't become popular, because that one was painful to read, let alone say!

I prefer traditional, strong names. I always envisioned my sons as some sort of business manager, and I wanted them to have names that could not be confused with the other sex, and something respectful, not trendy.

My oldest is a Thomas. He's was always the only one in his classes.

Middle DS is a Nicholas. I did not realize how popular it was until he started Kindergarten and found out there were 6 of them in his class!

My youngest is Luke. He's the only one in his classes, and the only other one closest is a Lucas.

One of my DSisIL wanted to name her baby Tequila if it was a girl. Thank God he was a boy and named after my brother...Richard. Yikes! I always have to wonder if that's what she was drinking when they conceived!:rotfl2:

Following Lost and Titanic, I'm predicting an influx of Jack and Kate in high schools in about ten years :rotfl:

I'm a Jennifer so I know all about common names. We really debate doing Brayden. Thought it was to common so we went with Brady Austin. What is your Brady middle name?

My neighbors dog is Isis lol

as far as Rhiannon I like it. I know one who is in her 20's now. After the Fleetwood Mac song.

I have an Isabella but thankfully dont know any others. I didnt even realize it was that popular. I hear it on a Soap Opera and said Thts It!!
