Baby gift basket...need suggestions

I'm putting together a baby gift basket for auction. Can all you smart budget minded disers help me with ideas? Thanks

how about a themed type basket?

bathtime basket incl: hooded towels, washclothes, baby shampoo, baby wash, powder, oil, qtips, bath toys, bath thermometer, etc...

meal time basket incl: spoons, travel cups, bowls, bibs, bottles, boxes of baby cereal, baby food....

bedtime theme: sleepers or pjs, bedtime story books, stuffed animals....

I'm sure there are tons of other themes too...
those were just the first few to come to mind.

I like to make baskets for friends that have practical, but unfortunately kind of boring stuff. Burp rags, (cloth diapers work great for this), bibs, onuses, socks, receiving blankets, usually a hat, if it is winter, little mittens, pacies, etc. Usually a big hit and no duplications at showers.

I like to buy an infant pool float, blow it up and fill it full of stuff. I usually shop at the end of the season so I'll have one as well as other pool toys. It is kind of the same idea as a baby bathtub, but since the bathtub idea has gotten popular this one works and is usually more rare. I have done them completely pool themed and included little swimmies diapers, baby sunscreen, etc or I have just made it kind of generic with diapers, wipes and other necessities.

I like the theme ideas. I usually bust my budget on this stuff b/c I overbuy.

For an auction, I'd focus on making the basket look as attractive as possible so that it stands out and attracts multiple bids. Try filling the basket in a visually pleasing way like sticking to certain colors (bright primary colors, green & yellow, etc) and using the best wrapping/bows/ribbons you have.

I do something simliar to this, I use the duck blow up bathtub (I have found at target for 9.99). I line it with some blue tissue and then fill with bath goodies, toys, towels, wash cloths, soap, lotion, etc.

I just starting putting one together for my husbands coworker and I found a plastic tub/bucket at the $1 to use for the gift basket. It was out with the easter items and came in a bright springtime green (gender neutral). I bought a bottle of baby bath, a pacifier clip and a brush/comb set. I'll continue to pick up various items to fill it up such as baby lotion, wash cloths, wipes & diapers. I try to buy things that everyone will use.

My favorite thing to put in was stain remover of some sort -- heaven knows you need that stuff with a baby around!

One item you could add for whatever theme you go with is a board book. If it's bedtime basket you could get "Goodnight Moon" or a book about bath time for a bath time basket e.t.c.
