Baby and the Tramp...and a Pop (half) Century! Where Did It Go???

Hi .. :) .. I've been reading your pre-trip report and can't wait to hear all about your trip .. but I feel compelled to thank you for what you just wrote. Man that put things in perspective for me .. I've been spending months analyzing and planning every minute of our trip .. but you know how easy it was going to be to focus on DOING everthing I wanted to do and miss out on moments like what you wrote about that become the heart of your trip.
I'm suddenly not so much looking forward to getting in that second ride on Splash Mountain with the kids .. I'm looking forward to early morning cuddles and duck watching. I seriously can't thank you enough for that bit of perspective you've given me tonight.

We got most everything in that we wanted to do. We, too, had done a lot of planning, but we still ended up with a short list of things left undone. That's okay, because we had some down time, and there's always the next trip around to look forward to doing the rest. Your picture shows that you have three beautiful and amazing gifts in those kids. Cherish every moment, quiet or chaotic, with them. I know you do. I know your trip will be just awesome! Sometimes it is the little unexpected, unplanned moments that mean the most, so just go with what comes and it'll be grand!

MeMom - Glad you all made it back safe and sound. I got misty reading about your saying goodbye. Leaving Disney is so hard already and leaving family is even more difficult! My mom lives in Florida and comes over to join us on our trips. It's always hard to say goodbye to her. This time we had to do it at the Magic Kingdom on our last day. :sad1: But, we know there'll be another trip, hopefully next year! Can't wait to hear all your trip details!

We never saw the Dream Team either - saw lots of people at Epcot and MK with Dream Fastpasses, but that was about it. But, like you said, we had many magical moments of our own, and our son who had the birthday button - we said he had the Year of a Million Birthdays, lots of extra special treats for him and us!

Sorry we missed you. Brooklynn and I got lots of birthday wishes, too. They really must stress that in CM meetings, because they were really, really aware of noting the birthdays.

Hi MeMom,

Awwe, it sounds like you all had a fabulous time. :yay: I know your TR will be great and I am looking forward to it. :goodvibes

I must tell you, your installment (talking about saying goodbye and coming back to reality) well, it had me all choked up. My DS just turned 13 this past week and I guess I am really sensing the fact that he is growing up...and it is happening way to quickly. It is all ssooo bittersweet.

I want to say thanks for sharing. So glad you are all home safely.:)

TTFN,
Darlene

BTW, you are very ambitious.:thumbsup2 ..doing laundry and not even home 12 hours.:laundy: You make me feel lazy;) .

What day was your son's birthday? Don't be sad. He's a great kid, I can tell, but you're going to be even more amazed by the young man he becomes in the next few years. I had a great time with my kids when they were little, but I also love who they are as adults. The relationships just grow deeper and the bonds stronger as you relate to them as adults. The little boys I used to do everything for now do a lot of things for me. And the teasing that boys do to their moms...well, as big guys, they do the teasing and pick you up and twirl you around the room all at the same time.

As for the laundry, it's a chore I don't mind. That and washing dishes...and that's by hand, since I have no dishwasher. However, dusting is a chore I hate! I'll trade off. You can do my dusting, and I'll do your laundry. Deal?

MEMOM! Quit it! You made me cry! :tear: As you know, I am going with my mom and I hope we have half as good a trip as it sounds like you had! Lots of people think it's crazy to take babies to WDW but I have taken my daughter at 3 mo. and 2 yrs. and the memories I have of her interactions with attractions and characters and well, me! are more precious than anything. And it certainly wasn't anymore trouble than taking care of her on a daily basis. But definitely more memorable!
Thank you so much for the quick review of Tony's! I am sure it will be great. We are pretty easy to please (especially when it comes to food!). And considering we are eating there the night we get there, they could probably serve us slop and we would think it was the best thing since sliced bread! We are eating right before Spectro so I am hoping for some pixie dust and maybe we will get to see it from there... if not though there are two that night so we can be flexible!
It's really a shame you didn't get any dreams, your family certainly deserved one! But that is what makes you so deserving... you had a great time anyway! Well I can't wait to hear ALL about it and share our stories! How was the weather, it's the one thing I am dreading... do you think people would make fun of me if I played in the fountains??

Here's hoping that you have a great view of Spectro. We saw most of it on our first night, but from a distance. Then we were going to watch Wishes, but a little boy behind us threw up all over the place and we couldn't stay in that spot, so we went on to other things. We tried to see both in full on the last night, and we sat in the rain for an hour waiting, but got the dreaded cancelled announcement right at parade time. We sat in front of Casey's eating hot dogs covered in raindrops as we waited. I was disappointed not to get some good parade pics, of course, but we've seen it before and we'll see it again, so no big deal.

As for the weather, it was hot, but not anything we couldn't make it through. Some of the queues are really nice and cool, and just go in and out of shops and shows enough to cool you down. The hottest I got was when we stood in line for Star Tours for about 30 minutes and I was holding Brooklynn while she slept. That was the hottest I recall being during the entire trip.

Welcome home! I hope you had a safe trip back. Now is about the time the "Disney Blues" are setting in :sad2: Get some R&R and we'll be here when you're ready :goodvibes

Safe, but sad. I didn't like having to part from my girls. It was nice to see them every day for ten days, as I usually only see them about every other weekend. Just coming back from Disney is bad enough, but to start a new school year immediately is even harder. I have to go down to the building and work in my classroom today. I got some of the stuffed Mickey/Minnie/Goofy/Pluto/Donald characters from the Epcot countries, so I'll add them to my collection for my school window. Hopefully, all those little guys will help me get through each day, reminding me that I work so that I can go back to WDW!

Lan, twob4him, byoung - Thanks for reading along with us. We will eventually get to a real report, and not just a bunch of bits and pieces, but with the new school year starting, it may take a little bit for us to really get started good. For now, I just wanted to get a few pictures and comments up because I thought we owed you all that. We went thinking we'd post a picture or two each night, but we ended up only getting the internet for a couple of 24 hour sessions, so that fell by the wayside. If I knew how to do things, I could have posted in the wee hours of the morning, since I don't sleep much, but the ones who had the know how about the computer and the pictures also know how to sleep like normal people!

Okay, I've got to get off of this and get ready to go to school. You guys have a great Saturday!

You poor thing having to go your classroom today! I think it's awesome you picked up some charatcters to put in your room. That will definitely help! When things get a little crazy, look over at the characters and it will remind you of the wonderful trip you had with your family! Coming back can be the hardest thing

Hi, I just found your trip report and can't wait to hear more about, what sounds like an awesome trip. I am going with my godson who will be 14 months on his first trip to the world and can't wait to see how he enjoys it. Can't wait to hear more!!!

I'll go ahead and get started, and Jill can add comments and pictures later. When she puts the pictures in, it will be a lot more interesting than just reading my words.

July 23rd - Left in the evening, although I'm not exactly sure what time. Jill may know. Jill, John, Brooklynn, and I were in the rented van, Trent and Kristi were in the rear car, and Drew and Sam were in my car in the middle. We wanted them to stay between us so that they didn't get speed crazy and leave us in the dust. After a long night of driving, we got to the Florida Welcome Center. It was still dark, but we took pictures by the Welcome to the Sunshine State sign anyway. In time, and without a lot of details about stops for potty/stretch/drink breaks, we found ourselves very close, ready to start paying those famous Florida tolls. When road signs turned purple, green, and yellow, we knew for sure we had hit Disney property.

We drove into Pop Century and parked side by side in the front. Disney Bound, Disney Bound 2, and Disney Bound, Too! had made it to their destination.

P1080374.jpg

The colorful Everything Pop sign was there to happily greet us, as it always is. Check in was average - not fast, not slow - but the rooms weren't ready, so we got lunch from the food court and went out to the pool to eat. Drew and Sam went on to Vans Skatepark, since bikes were only allowed on certain days, and this was one of them. The young people swam in the Hippy Dippy pool, and I sat in a lounge chair just enjoying watching them as I soaked up the fact that we were really finally there. We were all happy to be out walking, stretching, and moving around.

After a short time at the pool, Jill, John, Brooklynn, and I headed to DTD to get our annual passes, as we just had the vouchers. We went to World of Disney and the Christmas Store before heading back to Pop.

The rooms still weren't ready, so we just hung out in the lobby.

After just a few more minutes, we were ready to go. We had 2168 and 2169 connecting. They were right under the jukebox. I hadn't really wanted poolside, because I was afraid of the noise at night, but it turned out to be a good thing after all. We freshened up, caught the bus to Magic Kingdom, and then walked straight to the boat for Wilderness Lodge, as we were due any minute for our dinner reservations.

The Whispering Canyon meal was a great way to start the trip. We walked around in the WL lobby for just about three minutes before they called us. This is Trent's favorite resort, and he wants to stay there someday.

John and Trent got the Canyon Skillet meals, Kristi got wings, Jill got chicken, and I got the southwestern soup. It was good, but the portion was small. It was meant to be an appetizer, and I was using it as a meal, so that was understandable. I think Brooklynn had mac and cheese at this meal, but knowing her, the little eating machine, I'm sure she had bites from all of our plates! Our waitress was into her character, but she lacked some efficiency in service. She was very quick to bring out some huge silverware for Kristi after she dropped her fork, but she was very slow to bring Trent water after he had asked twice.

Kristi tried to resist asking for ketchup, since she had seen what happened at another table, but this girl eats ketchup on everything, so she gave in and asked...and received.

One of the little girls that brought ketchup to our table was having the best time doing it. I think she had been chomping at the bit for someone to ask, and she was happy to oblige. She brought many bottles and had a big smirk on her face the whole time. The food was good, especially the cornbread. Trent and John got plenty to eat as the waitress refilled their skillet portions. We used our DDE card for the first time, and it gave us a good start on getting it to pay for itself. When we were finished, we spent a few minutes taking pictures and visiting the Mercantile. I had been waiting all year to buy a Wilderness Lodge throw for the house, since I have a lodge theme in my den and kitchen, but I didn't want to carry it around that night, and resorts supposedly don't ship to rooms, so I decided to wait.

We headed back to MK and got fastpasses for Splash Mountain. We used baby swap, as would become habit for us throughout the trip. We were exhausted, so we headed back to the room, seeing some of Spectro as we left. Trent and Kristi ran and then went to the pool. They also picked up our fridge from swapper tmeyer. Drew and Sam came in later and headed for the water, too. We got to bed at a reasonable hour, at least reasonable for being in Disney World, and made plans to open Animal Kingdom for our first ride on Expedition Everest.

Thanks so much for the first installment--and it's a good one! Can't wait til Jill can add the pictures. You all must have been bone tired when you arrived, and yet you still had a pretty full day!

Looking forward to more...

Denise

Well we are back too and are already experiencing the Disney Blues..boo hoo!!! Despite the on and off torential pores we still pretty much did everything and had a wonderful time. It was awesome to meet Memom and Jill and Trent and baby Brooklyn. Again thanks memom and Jill for Natalie's little birthday surprise. She used the pencils and note pads on the plane. She just couldn't understand how someone she didn't know gave her a gift. Did you get her Thank You card? I wish we had more time to spend together. I came by on Aug 3rd to say Good Bye and you were already gone and now I know you left the Thursday. I know you told us but I was thinking Friday cuz that is when my sister was leaving and you arrived the same day as her.....lol!!

MeMom...thanks so much for the suprise you sent in the mail!!! The kids were thrilled! Hope you had a wonderful vacation!:yay:

Here are a few Pop Century photos that everyone has to take while staying there.

Brooklynn wasn't too sure about standing in the wheel of the Big Wheel.

The Potato Heads were having a family reunion as we walked by, so Brooklynn stopped to visit with them.

"Mommy, look what I made!" You can't see it, but Brooklynn is holding a can of Play Doh. Look how creative she is...and not even a year old yet!

praisehisname, SwansLoveDisney - Hopefully Jill can start on the pictures in the next day or two. She will be very busy when she gets back after being gone for two weeks, but she is a superwoman, so it's possible she can do some tomorrow.

mjrich - I'm glad the kids liked their surprise. We really appreciate the use of the fridge. Can I go ahead and book it for next July? :)

5boyz - It was great to meet you guys. Did we convince your husband that Disers are normal? We might not be the right ones to prove that though! Yes, we got Natalie's card. She's a sweet girl. Her hair looked cute when we saw her in the gift shop. Your sister arrived the same day we did but got to stay a day more? No fair!!! I wanted the Dream Team to show up and tell me I could live there! I'm glad you guys all made it back safely, as well. We'll be back as a big group again next July, but it'll have to be Fourth of July week. I know it'll be BUSY, but it looks like that's when it's going to work out best for us to go.

Everybody hang in there, because the pictures are coming. We have hundreds. Jill printed off 52 for me to take to school tomorrow, but there will be many more to come! 52 just scratches the surface of what we took, but it's a good variety to share, because my teacher buds are already hounding me for pictures. It'll give us something to look at during in-service tomorrow. Oops...did I say that??? Bad teacher! Although, when I was working in my classroom today, my assistant principal came and told me my TCAP scores from last year were very good, so that's a relief. I teach my brains out, as do most of the other teachers, but it's up to the kids to listen and absorb. If the scores aren't good, though, we look like bad teachers, and that's not exactly the case.

Okay, enough school talk. declansdad and pooksma will be taking us along on their trip in just a very few days, so we will look forward to lots of great pictures from them. I can be back in my happy place as I read their report and escape into their pictures. I've figured out one thing about myself after this nice long trip: my body is in Tennessee, but my heart resides in Disney! I wasn't ready to leave, and all I still want to do is hear Disney music, look at Disney pictures, and read the Disboards. I have a Disney addiction, for sure!

The following pictures are for some of our readers who are headed this way soon. What a beautiful place this is!
