Baby #19 for the Duggars born!

Well as the mother of a two children who were exclusively breastfed for 6 months (no bottles of water, no formula, no pacifier, no solid foods), and who are less than a year apart, I am a testimony to the fact that you can get pregnant while you are nursing.

Let's just say that I did not rely on that method after #2.

i kind of wondered if this was because the women on the talk show and the husbands/wives in the special that were in the other group came off pretty extreeme in their views that the purpose of having as many kids as possible was to shift the population of the world such that their ULTRA conservative (and imho to some extent very scary/extreemist) christian groups would ultimatly outnumber all other religions and be able to take on the leadership roles that would 'shape' the world into what they believed it should be:scared1:

Hmm... Well, if each of the Duggar children follow their parents example... Let's even cap their offspring at 15 each. That's 19 x 15 = 285. Now let's say each of those children has children. 285 x 15 = 4275. You have to admit, at that rate they'll be populating the planet in no time. :rotfl:

I wish the family and baby Josie the best. I have a coworker who had her daughter at 27 weeks due to HEELP syndrome. The gallbladder attack the media has mentioned can be a sign of HEELP and the only cure is delivery. I wonder if this was the reason for the early birth, and not because her uterus couldn't handle the pregnancy.

I had HELLP. It is not something that "hits" fast. The signs are there early on. My dr knew from the beginning I wouldn't go to term. (I delivered at 29 wks.) The further you go in your pregnancy, the quicker HELLP developes. Given her age and her pregancy history, I'm sure Michelles dr was watching her like a hawk.

JMHO, but I bet they don't. I bet there will be a good many that don't even marry. Remember, they are not allowed to "date". They have to wait until God "sends" them a spouse. 18, 19 + kids are an awful lot to find spouses that have the same value/lifestyles as their family. Just because Michelle is fertile, that doesn't meen the kids will be.

The girls have already raised their siblings, why would they want to do it again? :confused3 One of my girlfriends in high school was the oldest of 6...and other than giving birth to the children, she was their mother.

She decided early on she didn't want children and doesn't have any.

Oh no! :sad1:

I wonder if the doctor was tempted to take the whole works out while they were in there.

No such luck- that womans ****** should be locked up and closed down!

I'm okay with being judgmental towards this family. They state they don't watch television yet they sell their children to the media in the from of a tv show. Hmm... I wonder if they're teaching the definition of "hypocrisy" during home schooling time... As I recall the son that got married actually alerted TLC to his wife's positive pregnancy test before telling her. That's just sad. This family may have been a great family once, but I see them as no different from Jon & Kate, selling their children to make a buck. Just because they have faith in God while they do it, doesn't make it right.

I also have some strong opinions on their parenting style of popping out babies like crazy and them handing them off the their siblings to raise. If they didn't want their life style judged, they shouldn't have thought to make a career out marathon baby making.

Of course, all that aside, I wish the best for the new little one.

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

It's certainly true that no method of contraception is 100% except for abstinence. This exclusive breastfeeding method is considered to be as reliable as birth control pills - and I certainly know people (including my own sister!) who have gotten pregnant on the pill. So there will always be that small percentage! Had your periods returned before you conceived?

No, no period. I had also had a terrible time getting pregnant the first time as I was insulin resistant with PCOS. We were "semi-careful" and I was incredibly sleep-deprived, too. We call DD9 a little Houdini.

Well, I have 5 younger siblings (the youngest being only 17 months...) and it really does dampen your want for many kids.

At most I only want 3. Babies are ALOT of work and I don't want to have to do over and over again.

That may sound selfish (because it is! :rotfl:) but I know when I have kids I won't enjoy those first 6mo or so.

So yes, I wouldn't be surprisd if the duggar kids only have 2 or 3, maybe 4 at most. The only exeption is josh. he seems like one who would have alot! :rolleyes1

Have there been any updates on how Josie or Michelle are doing since the birth? I know that the Today show had them on a lot for major announcements, but didn't notice anything on Friday (but I may have missed it). I know this not fun like announcing a pregnancy or the gender of a baby, but a lot of people in the country now care for their family and are wondering how they are doing.....

I wish them well. It's awful to lose a baby and would hate to see that happen to them. My thoughs and prayers are with both Josie & Michelle.

Yeah, that is what the natural family planning people tell you all the time and it isn't even close. I know more people that got pregnant while nursing then anyone on birth control pills. I got my first period with DS17 when he was 2 months old and I was exclusively nursing at that time. I didn't get my period with the twins until they were 11 months old and by then they were only nursing once or twice day. :confused3

My sister had HELLP and it came on very quickly. She basically felt like crap for a couple of days, went to see her doctor and was told to go to the hospital. Fortunately, she was less than two weeks from her due date when she developed it. She had an induction and, while things were scary for her for about 24 hours, she came out okay and my nephew had no issues. :)

That was nasty. :sad2:

Can you comprehend the concept that whether this baby was #19 or her FIRST baby, that this medical condition could've occurred?? This baby being born early had nothing to do with how many previous children she's had! Even first-time pregnant women can get pre-eclampsia.

I breastfed my 3 kids exclusively for the first 5 months, and then continued breastfeeding for at least a year with each of them. I always got my period before they turned 5 months. I would never rely on breastfeeding as a form of birth control. You don't have to have had your period to have ovulated. Breastfeeding isn't even close to being a reliable birth control...it's like playing Russian Roulette.

Altho I don't agree with some of the ways of the Duggars, I do believe they are "good" people and I pray their baby is OK.

But we are not talking about a woman and her first pregnancy, we are talking about a woman that is on her 19th. The woman is selfish, period, not sure why you think thats so nasty, its not like there aren't hoards of others who see it too :confused3

Your first comment is inferring that the baby was born early and is fighting for her life BECAUSE of how many previous pregnancies her mother has had; THAT is not accurate. The baby was not born prematurely because it was the 19th pregnancy of its mother.

If you think Michelle Duggar is, in general, a selfish person, then that's your opinion and it's your right to feel that way.

I look at it this way, if the mother wasn't so selfish as to get pregnant 19 times, there wouldn't be a baby in the NICU fighting to survive at all. You can take from that comment what you want.

You think having 19 children is selfish???? :confused3

Being a mother is one of the most selfless jobs out there. She is so far from selfish.....

LOL the number of kids you have has nothing to do if you have a baby in NICU. You can have your first child or your 3oth child in NICU.
